AIBU to be shocked at the violence towards women at the Reform conference?

ILikeDinosaurs · Yesterday 11:03

Another video showing the violence against a woman at the Reform conference. They are actually PULLING A WOMAN DOWN ON THE FLOOR and KICKING HER.

A man in a suit and a man with a lanyard both kicking her. The man with the walking stick in the other videos (identified as Stephen Cooling) looks like he's pulling her down and possibly kicking her too. Women are just watching with no care for the victim.

This is Fascism. Given Nigel's horrifyingly GLEEFUL response to this, this violence will become the norm under Reform.

How can people defend this?

Slimy Nige has responded saying no one was upset when he got milkshake thrown at him so he doesn’t understand why anyone should be bothered about this (or words to that effect)
no apology forthcoming.

The person who threw the milkshake at Farage was arrested immediately and charged. It was all over the news for days.

Nobody has been arrested now that I know of despite clear as day proof of an assault by multiple people, one of them wearing a clearly visible name badge. I had to go onto the Birmingham section of the BBC to find any reference to this.

Morepositivemum · Yesterday 12:35

Is that a woman holding the woman in the video though? I know it doesn’t matter- all scumbags, but not against women if it’s women being thugs too?

Awful. I remember that poor 82 year old man manhandled out of a Labour Party conference a couple of years ago. There absolutely is no need to treat people like that. It's a Party Conference fgs.

It was the younger man who was manhandled, the OAP was escorted out. The video is still available and he got an immediate apology. There was no laughing about them needing to be removed.

There are violent things on all sides. However, we should be charging everyone involved, who wasn't staff. I felt the same when it took heckling to get Charles to act over Andrew and the hecklers were attacked by the crowd and the Police.
The right are winning in Germany. We need discussions on migration or we are going to fall to the far right.

If those delegates were really that alarmed by the presence of a heckler at a party
conference than they clearly don’t have a very strong sense of the history and traditions of our democracy. There have always been hecklers at party conferences. I have never seen images of them being physically assaulted like this before. Not after the tragic murder of Jo Cox. Not after the tragic murder of David Amess. The brutal, tragic murders of politicians should never, ever be used as an excuse for the erosion of our much valued rights to freedom of speech and freedom to protest.

It is never acceptable or excusable to lay hands on a peaceful protestor, and the Reform leadership should make that clear.

I don’t think my posts are being read. The replies I’m getting are knee jerk and deaf. I’m out. I’ll leave you to your easy condemnation of others in a cosy unthinking echo chamber.

The fascist woman who infiltrated the conference needs a hobby, as do so many others.

And you need some morals.

MumofCandR · Yesterday 12:32

You want to believe they aren’t reasonable people and you are spreading hate.

They're not reasonable to behave this way, so by definition they're not reasonable people. This behavior has no place in a civilized society. That's a factual statement. Anyone that supports this behavior is also by definition, not reasonable.

I don't think so. I saw a women thrown to the ground and hit with a stick.

Unless you are referring to the woman protester?

I was referring to the women protesters. They weren't the ones being violent, only shouting is what I saw.

You are pretending that I’m ok with mob violence. This is part of the problem. Demonising others.

So you condemn the violence of the Reform members who attacked the women? Great. No demonising from me, we are in agreement. 👍

Marellain · Yesterday 12:32

ILikeDinosaurs · Yesterday 12:31

And you are also projecting what you think their reasons were.

Have a little think about the difference between logical deduction, plausible inference and emotional projection.

I think the instinct to neutralise a threat arrived and that woman bore the brunt. I’d guess Anne Widdecombe being murdered and Farage receiving death threats, Polanski refusing to apologise, have all created increased vigilance responses.

Her timing was off. Safety has been threatened. Protests are tolerated by those that feel safe. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

if a Reform protester turned up at a Green conference I’d not be surprised by the same outcome. In fact I think it’d be worse.

I agree with Robert Jenrick's response - "Oh boo hoo". 😂

For too long, leftist agitators have felt entitled to walk over others in society with a total lack of respect.

It doesn't matter what the event is - a protest, a political rally, a meeting, a religious service - whatever it is, these people have felt entitled to invade and disrupt proceedings, showing complete lack of respect to those present, as well as to their rights to assemble and express reasonable opinions etc.

I am pleased to see there is now some push back against these arrogant bullies and I found it deeply satisfying to see them being manhandled out of the Reform conference.

Indeed I think they got off pretty lightly.

Quoting this so it's clear that some people support the disturbing violence on the video.

ILikeDinosaurs · Yesterday 12:31

Marellain · Yesterday 12:26

That’s projection on your part. You are trying to stir up feelings. Negative input from you.

And you are also projecting what you think their reasons were.

YABU because it isn't surprising that neo fascists behave like neo fascists do. YANBU to think this is appalling and has no place in society, but there will be supporters along on this thread crying fake news, other people did xyz so it's OK to justify, yada, yada.... Etc. Even if those statements are correct that others have removed people in a similar way (which most likely they're not) it's no excuse for neo fascists behaving like neo fascists to be allowed in a civilized society. They should be arrested as they've committed a crime.

SamTR1 · Yesterday 12:30

The left has a recent history of murdering political opponents. They don’t get to claim the moral high ground, quite the opposite in fact. I hope all the protesters get charged with causing a breach of the peace.

Marellain · Yesterday 12:30

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 12:29

So because people have said hurty words about Reform voters you are OK with mob violence. How far is it permissible for that violence to go?

The woman was nowhere near Farage and was not attempting to get to him.

Marellain · Yesterday 12:29

ILikeDinosaurs · Yesterday 12:27

Exactly this. There was no excuse for ordinary members to attack a person so violently. Why weren't they kicked out by security? Because Slimy Nige enables their hate and cheered them on.

Normal, reasonable people would have left it to security to remove hecklers, ie do their jobs. But these are Reformers, not reasonable people.

You want to believe they aren’t reasonable people and you are spreading hate.

Marellain · Yesterday 12:25

Well, you can continue Pearl clutching at how awful those Reform People are, or address the elephant in the room that Reform voters have been called thick as pigshit gammon flag shaggers… and Farage has received death threats. They have been sneered at and derided constantly. Tipping point just noticed… oops they fought back.

Baldrapunzel · Yesterday 12:29

I have listened to the woman. I don't need anything else to form my opinion.

So you're A OK with a woman being grabbed round the neck, hit with a stick, being pulled by the hair because she was shouting some slogans? I thought your lot were all for free speech.

Jaxhog · Yesterday 12:28

BlueSherbet · Yesterday 12:17

So, if you were at some event and suddenly some aggressive imposter revealed themselves, you would not be alarmed or take any action yourself?

You would sit back coolly, and say "let security do their job"?

In era of mass attacks against civilian targets, I find that hard to believe.

Most people would be alarmed in such a situation and would likely take reasonable action, such as distancing themselves or restraining the individual in question.

Bear in mind a Reform MP has recently been murdered in a political attack.

In that context, I think a lot of posts are judging the actions of the Reform supporters very unreasonably.

That is what security is for at a civilised event, which this appears not to have been. Do you really think that beating up someone who doesn't agree with you is ever justified?

ILikeDinosaurs · Yesterday 12:27

Visiblyabove25 · Yesterday 12:21

No hecklers were physically assaulted at a Labour Party conference after the brutal, tragic murder of Jo Cox. No hecklers were physically assaulted at a Conservative Party after the brutal, tragic murder of David Amess.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable at all to expect delegates at a party political conference to expect heckling and to react calmly and let security do their job when it happens.

We believe in freedom of speech and freedom to protest in this country.

Exactly this. There was no excuse for ordinary members to attack a person so violently. Why weren't they kicked out by security? Because Slimy Nige enables their hate and cheered them on.

Ive been saying for a long time that what we are witnessing is Germany in the 30s and the rise of Nazism. People better start wising up and taking this shit seriously. This is no longer a joke.

I'm struggling to understand how 20% of responses here are that you are being unreasonable.

Reform need high security due to actual murder of Ann Widdecombe and the fact that some think that was justified. But security should do that job, not the mob.

Exactly.
