To wonder if Reform voters actually realise that Farage and his cronies are responsible for the increase in migrant boats reaching the UK

Because Brexit , for which Farage was a leading advocate, put a stop to the UK being able to send the boats back. Before Brexit there was a returns agreement in place.
So be careful if you think he actually has a clue what he is doing.

Too bad we didn’t stay.

We could have been joining Austria. Greece, The Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark in sending migrants to a safe third country.

We had our own plan that never got used.

AndyKitten · 05/09/2026 10:27

EasternStandard · 05/09/2026 10:21

We had that earlier but it got scrapped.

Too bad it did.

We seem to have been ahead but now we lost millions on that scheme while others are happy to use it.

Enter illegally? Sent home. Enter legally? Let us hear your story.

I honestly wouldn't allow anyone to apply really. What India does is that they have certain groups they want to be allowed to apply. It's like how we did it for Ukrainians. But I don't want people from Afghanistan or Somalia or the Sudans to come.

The French elections will be a major factor.

Yes, the Right are gathering momentum, people are sick of that 'pretty boy' Macron.

The benefits system in the UK is also putting food on the table and keeping a roof over the heads of a huge chunk of Reform support. Very few of their voting demographic (the less well educated less well paid) would benefit from welfare cuts. Its been implied that if we gave less to immigrants then there would be more for them, because they see themselves as 'genuine'. However this is a very simplistic understanding of the situation. Welfare cuts mean less money for the poorest people in our society, so they need to be very careful what they wish for.

This is rubbish.
How do you know the demographic of Reform voters?

EasternStandard · 05/09/2026 10:09

Cheese55 · 05/09/2026 10:08

Reform cannot change international law so it is a wish list.

Why are you suggesting a government would use a "wish list" when parliament is responsible for the law making process in Britain.

Anti Reformers seem only able to talk about wishing as if they have no clue what a government is or does.

Farage and reform don't want the boats to stop. They want them there as a permanent scapegoat to point the finger at

As long as they can whip up a frenzy from about 30% of the population then they can win seats.

Then they'll properly and irreversibly fuck the country while enriching their backers at the cost of you and me

He's not a patriot, he's not on your side. He's a cunt who just wants to enrich himself and his mates

He's not on your side. Unless you're a billonaire who donated to him

That's just ill-informed speculation.

The USA at least (a great ally) just refuses to hear asylum cases now. Just detains till they ascertain identity and then deports

We were never part of the Schengen agreement so returns were not legal, under eu law that is.

You can't send someone back to a country if they 'don't remember' where they came from
You can't send people back unless the other country accepts them back and has a robust Home Office equivalent
There is a list of countries you can't send people back to full stop
There is a long list of legal reasons why someone can't be sent back.
There is a reason why most asylum seekers are given leave to remain and has little to do with them needing refuge
The list goes on.
Reform is not going to solve this with a wish list.

I understand the proposals as well as anyone could from the childlike bare bones of a wishlist Reform call their 'manifesto'.
I also understand welfare benefits and the impact of changes to the system. I understand the difference between policies that will actually reduce public spending and those that merely appear to, while actually just moving spending from one place (benefits) to others (NHS, social care, social services, CJS) Do you? If not, you might want to try before you parrot their nonsense.

I haven't parroted anyone's nonsense, I'm simply mocking your string of clichés about people you despise and what you want to pretend they think, as if you either know or care. You don't. You despise them at the same time as claiming to know what they "wish for".

No I’m referring to the op’s claim the Dublin Agreement resolved the issue by returning people to France. No EU country has sent people back en masse to a first country of entry, ie Spain, Italy or Greece.

It wasn’t what the DA did, the numbers were tiny.

Yes and that long list of reasons as to why they can't be sent back, is being abused.

And yet people still can’t notice no EU country is sending everyone back to a country of first entry.

LuckyHazelFox · 05/09/2026 09:28

Well said MNers on Merkel. If ever you want to see a woman who was not looking after other women, no need to look elsewhere. She rode roughshod over Germany's citizens and I believe the conspiracy about a wider problem goes as far back as her time in office. Somebody is behind this immigration influx.

Illegal migrants are travelling across many countries (including France, a safe place) because they are attracted to all the wonderful benefits we offer, didn't you know?

Brexit was a failure because the faceless organisations running the Government didn't want it to succeed. I say this as someone who voted to stay. If I voted again, I would vote "leave". Sick of it.

Same in Ireland. There was a lower rate set for this seeking asylum before 2022 but once the Ukraine war started and the new immigration arrivals were white, it changed from 41 per week to 250 per week, same as an unemployed single person, with added housing benefit, usually a hotel, no electricity or heating expenses, no rent,
Before that it wasn’t attractive and every other hotel wasn’t being used.
The government were attempting to be openly racist by just given the higher rate to Ukrainian people but that was not fair. They should have kept it somewhere in the middle range. Hindsight.
It has caused resentment as many out-earn full time workers in benefits.

Not this again

I can’t stand the man

But for God sake, the Dublin agreement and losing it through Brexit has nothing to do with the numbers we’ve seen since then. How many did we return under that agreement? Maybe 300 a year maybe 200 a year? I don’t have the exact figure to hand and I’m supposed to go to bed so I’m not going to look it up.

@Meadowlands How do you explain all the other EU countries who have experienced exactly the same thing we have?

Edited

This.

And ruining things for German women

If the governments across Europe don’t want political parties who are considered far right then they need to take action.
As an example Poland has a prime minister who has a set of balls.
All the while women, men, children, Christian’s, in parts of India, Sudan, Congo, Nigeria are being persecuted by radicalism, using a machete the same radicals hitting Europe.

Agree, people get disgusted and worked up about the terrible far right and how they are growing in popularity.
It's takes a little more thinking to ask "why". What's happening that's pushing people to the far right ??

What can we do to stop that.

I guess a little like naracists they can't do that because they can't confront themselves or their ideals.

Personally I think Angela merkel should be held accountable for her actions.
