My own mother is 89 and would be horrified to hear what MM said, and would NEVER use language like that nor judge a person on the colour of their skin. Still less would she think it was appropriate to randomly ask a black person about their parents, and/or use offensive terminology.
Generalising incorrectly about older people is ageist but on MN it appears to be a form of discrimination which is seen by some-many apparently-as acceptable. It is not.
Miriam Margoyles is not an offensive racist because she is older. She is that way because she is a deeply unpleasant woman.

It’s well known that people from older generations are racist in a way that would not be considered unacceptable now. In fact when I looked at care homes for my parents they mentioned it was mentioned that their carers were trained to understand this.

Unless some form of dementia kicks in, you will be just as you are now, maybe a little more patient or impatient with people, depending on your personality.

If you have a sense of humour, style, are pleasant to people and love life....hopefully that won't change.

I was opened mouthed watching it, too. Literally had my hand over my dropped jaw.
I could not believe what I was watching from her.
The youtube videos are only showing a short clip. The entire 7 minute interview was much more awful.

I've got an annual leave day today and am spending the morning shamelessly on the sofa watching daytime TV with cups of tea and biscuits after an exhausting school summer hols. Kids back at school today. I've given myself permission to vegetate till 3:15pm.

True, but someone upthread said it made them annoyed that they had to scroll down to find my second post to find details about what MM said. So I suppose they're still annoyed and therefore stand by their vote.
Others upthread have made digs about me describing my morning scene in the opening of my post. And someone criticised me for making them read an entire paragraph about myself before getting to the point of this thread. I guess these people still think I am BU so they stand by their vote.

she speaks out in support of causes which are often supported by people who are left wing but not always.
she is vocal about lgbt causes because she’s lesbian and she speaks out against genocide and I think she’s spoken about farage but that doesn't necessarily equate with socialism.
anyone who is anyone should be anti genocide and most people can see farage is an odious greedy liar.
