OMG Miriam Margolyes Andi Peters

I lived in Nigeria twenty years ago and Nigerians used to call mixed race people “yellow.” I don’t know if they still do. We had a mixed race receptionist and customers would often say that they spoke to the “yellow lady” before.

I watched a bit of This Morning the day after the incident and there was a discussion about audio books and Giles Brandeth was suddenly mentioning her, saying she was a beautiful speaker, a wonderful audio book narrator etc directly to Andi Peters when that wasn't what the discussion had been about. I thought that was a show of establishment friends in action right there.

And I really liked the way in the presentation to her audience where she addressed the issue, she says shes not sure who Andi Peters is!!

I meant in general in terms of documentaries she has done, not necessarily about that interaction which was out of context. Why she did it who only knows

What is quite amusing is the way she says I didnt want to embarrass Andi Peters, without any shadow of self awareness that people are expecting her to be embarrassed about what she said, not him!!!

I don't agree. If you have watched her on talk shows, she feigns interest so she can suddenly chip in with what she hopes will be a shocker...usually sex related.
It's all an act,

She comes across as the least curious person in the world. She had no interest whatsoever in listening to Andi Peters. She just had a preconceived idea of who he was because of his skin colour and wished to convey that to him.

I hadnt read the full transcrpt of what she and they had said on the show, it was out of context for sure, but not inappropriate if talking about that as a talking piece. Not sure about that antiquated dispariging term, Im just talking about the discussion

In terms of her interest in people, I can believe that, she is one of those people who is forever curious, it does make people in the modern age feel uncomfortable. In other countries people do talk more openly about difference and who are you, where are you from, where are your parents from etc etc

Its not the social norm now in this country though.

I really like Andi Peter's, I didn't grow up in the UK in the 80's and 90's but I've heard him say how proud he was for being a role model for minority and ethnic race children, back when only Trevor Mcdonald, Moria Stuart, Derrek Griffiths and lenny Henry were the regular Black people on TV.

And this isn't something he boasts about or tries to claim is amazing, he was just saying he's proud of that.

I feel quite sorry for the posters arguing with you on this point. You, I, most of my social circles who have older parents, have already had the experience of hearing our non-racist relatives say the single or occasional word or phrase that is not acceptable in the UK today for a multi- cultural but also a highly diverse society in other ways. They have that experience and conversation still to come. And the shock that goes with it.
