It’s interesting isn’t it, how the media organisations believe certain individuals are what we all want and need, and they are then endlessly paraded and promoted, even though they are not especially likeable or even clever?
Maybe because they are so high profile as a result of this elevation, or they start to believe their own publicity, but they often come crashing down as a result of scandal, poor life choices or inappropriate comments.
Gregg Wallace was a classic example, as was Philip Schofield, Russell Brand, Angus Deayton, Michael Barrymore etc etc. Not to mention the extreme ends of this spectrum whom I won’t even refer to.
Maybe it’s me, but when all these individuals hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, most of my friends and colleagues admitted they never even liked them in the first place. The same with MM. There have been very few posts on this thread in support of her and as soon as I started telling my DH and adults children about her behaviour on TM, they all immediately chipped in saying how much they disliked her, even before they heard what she had said.
It does make you wonder who actually decides who becomes a celebrity and national treasure; the public or the media?
