AIBU to think £1,000 is reasonable for nearly new DFS sofas?

That bundle is currently 2300 ish new. So, no, I’d not pay that at all, especially as the person buying them does not get the advantages or warranty or any other things that protect the purchaser and which are factored in the price when you buy new… moreover after year of buying from DFS and every product looking like poop within 3years of normal family use, it is not a brand that I would willingly buy from new (with all those newly applied fabric protections and manufacturers warranties) let alone second hand.

You can try £1000 or best offer and see what happens, though.

Not really. We once had to get rid of a really good sofa. Our builders had to break it down to get it into the skip and they were saying how beautifully made it was. But our cat caught fleas and they moved into the sofa and nothing we did would kill them so we had to chuck it.

I'd never risk a second hand sofa - it could have fleas, bedbugs, pet dander.

£500 tops. DFS stuff is well known to be utter shite.

But they’re on for a lot less then £3k now, so it doesn’t matter what you paid it’s what people can now buy them new for. £1k is too much for second hand £2k value sofas. I’d pay £300 unless I was about to buy that exact style and colour new.

Almost all of the £3000 you paid was the value of having a new sofa in the exact combination of colour and fabric and style you choose. A sofa loses 90% of its value the moment it is delivered to your home. No second owner is going to receive that choice. You may get a few hundred but no one will give you £1000.

My sofa was £1000 NEW from DFS and it's the colour and style I chose. Why would anyone pay that for a used sofa? Crazy to spend £3k on a sofa then change your minds. Do you have money to burn?

b) it was a few months ago - very easy to check what you paid

I think people won't pay much for second hand sofas, especially if they're nothing special.
Does your husband still like them?

Have you still got the receipts and paperwork for the extra protection etc?
Is the fire safety tag still attached? (you can't sell without)

You might get lucky if someone wants to buy that exact configuration.

People tend to expect not to pay much for secondhand stuff, even though it's high quality and good condition. I think a lot of people would rather have new, low quality things. Their choice, their loss imo.

I bought 2 sofas and an armchair second hand from eBay for £2000! They were Fired Earth and the original price was £10,000. I think some brands hold their value. If you look on eBay you'll find lots of 2nd hand sofa businesses and you can guage from their pricing how much you can expect.

I sold a bed that I paid £3000 for and only ended up with £400. It had been slept in 20 times max, had an enclosed mattress protector on it plus 2 other protectors. It was pristine but I couldn't get any more for it.

Wouldn't spend £1000 on any second hand sofa unless heritage brand in beautiful unique fabric etc. Definitely not DFS.

What is it that you don't like about them? If it's colour can it be rectified with re-upholstering or cover? If it is the size, level of comfort etc, then it's obviously quite difficult to deal with. Nothing to lose by listing them at that price. Try a dedicated second hand site like sofalistic rather than FB marketplace. I believe Sofalistic offers collection and delivery which will definitely help to shift your sofas at this price.

You should get £1k for them but probably £500 is more realistic. No way you can keep them? It's a lot of money to loose.

Honestly I wouldn't pay much mostly because I would think if they are being sold after only a couple months, there is more than likely an issue like they are actually uncomfortable when used for more than a day or two because why else would you sell a sofa after a couple months for so much less than you bought them for? That would just be my thought process.

Also if you buy new you have the ability to go back to the retailer with issues, whereas being second hand you dont, and that to me has some value.
