AIBU to think the new sixth form outfit looks like something from "The Handmaid'sTale"

Their sixth form uniform policy is actually a trouser suit, which can be bought from anywhere, not the uniform shop.

I went to a school with a very similar uniform and they still have it exactly like that.
The boys wore trousers and we wore long, hot skirts that were difficult to do any exercise in. No kick a ball around the playground for the girls, or running, or anything of much activity.
It was shit.

Ah, I see it’s a private school. They like to make their uniforms as ridiculous (and expensive) as possible, to distinguish them from the plebs.
You pay your money you take your choice OP. My children now have to wear ‘business attire’ at sixth form, but in the olden days when I was at school, we wore what we liked. Eldest went to college, where they were treated like grown ups.

Our local private school has ankle length pleated skirts in navy, with a lighter blue jacket. It looks really good and I like it a lot. I wouldn't mind the length of OPs version, but it does look quite dull.

I know a girl who goes to school with that kind of skirt and she loves it. There was a trouser option and this girl is very much a trouser type of very sporty girl. But she says she feels very free walking around in the long skirt. In the winter, she can wear tight trousers or leggings under it. The rationale for the School is that if it is kneelength it will be rolled up. Whereas with this one, there is no chance.

There have always been schools with horrible uniforms, a number of my friends spent their school years decked out in brown. It's fairly recent that kids got any input into the uniform and there was an expectation to look nice all the time. This generation won't have anything to look back on and laugh at! Let the girls bond by wearing stupid things under it and playing with it.

I don't agree with the modesty argument, but it does the job of making it obvious what school they are at.

I incorrectly thought it was Collegiate (former Colston's) as they have a non-compulsory maxi skirt option for girls. Girls can wear trouser suits at Clifton College, OP. Whoever told you otherwise was incorrect.

I'd have preferred it to a just-above-the-knee skirt, as I hated the way those always blew up and tried to show off my pants, as well as the social pressure to roll them (despite being happy to wear 'immodest' clothes outside of school, I didn't like wearing a shorter skirt at school where I was bullied). I was so happy in winter, because we got to wear trousers at that time of year.

Honestly, I'm not sure what's morally superior about a girls' uniform that shows the knees?

I'm not a fan. I prefer jeans and trainers for 6th form

A couple of the high schools in our area introduced long style skirts, but trousers are an acceptable alternative. The skirts here are pleated though as well which is even more fabric! I have seen a few girls near me wearing them and they do look uncomfortable and entirely impractical.

Christ Hospital is different - 72% to 78% of pupils are on financial support or bursaries - this is a special school. So the pupils there would wear hobbit ears, if the school tells them and make no noise as beggars can't be choosers. Having said that, I think their uniform is stunning!

Why wouldn’t they allow it? Assuming anyone who lives near the school can actually see the students wearing the uniform 🤷🏻‍♀️

That's it. Women in jobs, even in the law, aren't hidebound by such rigid ideas of what women should wear. Our 6th fim takes the view that they are there voluntarily, so uniform no longer applies.

My 4 ft 11 daughter would have been a disaster in that skirt while her 6ft friends could have looked great in it.There's so much fabric I'm surprised it's not a h&s hazard.

Had a long skirt at the girls school I went to. It’s very restrictive and heavy to walk in. Trousers or a mid skirt would be far more practical.

I know Google isn't always right, but I was bored so wandered down a rabbit hole. Google reverse image search didn't bring up any matches apart from the one on this thread. So it might be AI. Google also said there are no schools in the Bristol area that have ONLY long skirt options.

The tie matches Derby Moor Academy, but they have a varied uniform.
