Not quite sure what your point is? The school is very generous with its bursary support but once you get there you get the same anonymous vote on whether or not to change the uniform as those paying full fees.

You may have missed my earlier post that my DD went there - she and all her friends love their uniforms.

I love it but the blazer needs to be cut differently to really set it off.

I've been critical of the OP and she is quite stunningly wrong about the uniform but she hasn't claimed that it's a girls' school as far as I can see.

To be honest i quite like it as 16 year old starting to go Gothic/retro Edwardian me opted for a similar look in 6th form when we had a choice of skirt. It was the late 80s so kind of fashionable.

They ask the pupils.... In the same way they ask us what party we want in power. Don't be ridiculous! It is not THEY who ask the pupils, it is the 72% to 78% of pupils who ask, no, not ask, beg for financial assistance.

I imagine if @joanjett had kids at Clifton college she would at least have noticed that it is co ed!

Uniforms belong in armies, not on children.

Get better at reading your child's school website - there is a trouser option for girls.

I personally quite like long trousers being the standard for all students…
But the long skirt might be important for students with certain religious requirements (or preferences).

Rugby School have had these long skirts for girls forever. They all seem to wear them quite happily.

Schools need to kill skirts off and just tell everyone to wear trousers- so much more practical.

DD was there for sixth form - the school provide the uniform for everyone and you hand it back when you leave. She loved all of it except the yellow socks which are wool and very itchy...

I have friends whose daughters went to a school with an ankle length winter skirt and they all loved it as you could wear what you liked underneath - usually PJ bottoms apparently.

In Limerick (Ireland) they've worn really long skirts forever. It seems to impractical.

When I was in sixth form in the late 80s we could wear own clothes - within a code fitting to the school - so only blouses, sweaters, long sleeved tops, and skirts (no trousers allowed) of knee length to mid calf. All had to fit the colour coding of green, cream and brown. We must have looked a dream! 😅

You said there is no trouser option. You were wrong. The preferred uniform is a trouser suit. Your picture shows the alternative for those who don't want to wear a trouser suit. Once you named the school, it took less than 5 minutes to find that. See Upper School Uniform List – Clifton College and look at the "Year 12&13" section.

Or just do what 99% will do and buy their daughter a dark trousers suit of her free choice instead.

The skirt is only given as an alternative for those who don't want to wear a trouser suit. I expect it actually is for modesty - that they have had at least one girl in the past who was not even allowed to wear a trouser suit for modesty reasons, so they had to come up with something she could wear.

I sort of like it. At my children's sixth form, it is business casual, which in practice means stripper outfits. I was the same when I was that age (low-cut top, short skirt, etc..), but I wonder if this uniform is made more modest for the girls to not have to think too much about looking fashionable/cool etc.. I would love it if my children had to wear something similar but I am guessing that they would not be too happy x
