AIBU to think the new sixth form outfit looks like something from "The Handmaid'sTale"

I would think that many 6th Firms like students to colleges where it is normal to wear their own clothes and be treated like the young adults that they are

We wore ankle length skirts to school in the noughties as did a lot of private schools 🤷‍♀️ my old school still has them although sixth form can wear trousers if they want.

Was glad we wore a uniform when I was at 6th form- cheaper and no need to worry about what to wear.

At least they are allowed to wear skirts. Daughters school are making all the girls wear trousers! They were going to be light grey too till a lot of mums pointed out the problems with that if the girls have heavy periods, so they changed it to black.

This uniform is fine if there was an alternative choice e.g trousers or knee length skirt. This is totally impractical for everyday activities e.g. running for the bus, cycling etc. For centuries women were oppressed by the clothes they wore, in my opinion this is opressive.

They look great don't they! And yes, the girls do seem to like them. DD would have happily worn it had we been able to afford to send her there!

Long skirt option is not forced modesty. Why do people think long skirts are all about modesty? I grew up in place with no uniforms so I find them odd overal, but I can hand on heart say that I never liked skirts above knee, which seems to be standard here. Having long skirt option is not forced modesty. It's allowing preference. Not all of us young girls like shorter skirts.

If the girls are unhappy wearing it I'm sure a spoonful of sugar will sort them out.

Long skirts seem to be very popular at the local school even though short skirts and trousers are also an option.

The main problem with the uniform pictured is the grim colour choice and the poor cut of the blazer! A bit of colour would help.

I agree it's a ridiculous uniform but the normal uniform is a trouser suit. They can choose to wear that skirt as an alternative.

Rugby School has long skirts too - very odd. Always looks to me like they are once again changing the girls so the boys don't have to behave like decent humans.

I quite like it, but I think the top half suggests a lack of imagination.

Why not go the whole hog and mandate an anachronistic hat and cloak?

This is it. Some girls like it! Nobody is listening. The 16y old I know is a non-religious extrovert, swimming and tennis-loving confident young woman. She lives in tracksuit bottoms usually. She chose the long skirt over the trousers! She likes the look and the air wafting under her skirt. Not all girls hate this!

Oh God, that is fucking hideous. Which school is it? Why do they need a uniform in sixth form?

When my school had a sixth form in the early 1990s the dress code was to wear black and white, which I think was chosen by the sixth formers themselves.

My sixth form college which got very good results had very little in the way of dress code, let alone uniform. I think it was something like no very short clothing, no ripped jeans (that one did get pushed against slightly), no cropped tops.

How did we get back to the Edwardian era? I mean if girls want to dress in long skirts, that's a nice look and one I certainly embraced in 1992 at sixth form. But not in shitty Teflon uniform fabric with matching blazer and a man's shirt and tie. Such default male shite imposed on girls, and even men hardly wear ties for work these days.
