You do what you like. It's called choice and free will. I know nothing about the tealight stoves personally, I've not come across them myself. I'll do what I think best as will the other grown ups. Scaremongering is a word you keep using, which isn't actually what most of us are doing, despite your insistence. We aren't all little kiddies, you aren't the teacher, and this isn't the playground. Do not dare to attempt to educate me about caring for a disabled person that I love. As you have no idea of the conditions involved you are not qualified to make that sweeping comment. I'm not arguing with you about this anymore. In an emergency situation, with good ventilation- which I've already said- and common sense safety around soft furnishings and other materials, people can if they wish make the choice to use them. Like many people I also have a carbon monoxide detector independent of my electricity supply which is checked regularly and batteries changed in a timely manner. I've had to use ours before during power cuts and I do have enough brains and common sense to take the proper precautions. Adults don't get 'encouraged' in the way you seem to think. The ones I know aren't mindless sheep, they make their own informed decisions and understand risk assessment. You've made your views and concerns clear, I've made my views clear. I have, can and will use one in an emergency because I have a severely disabled husband who cannot be left with no hot fluids or foods.

Just to add, for anyone thinking it's scaremongering and we just shouldn't prepare because, well, it's all going to be fine...The extreme weather events including El Nino, yes are one good reason, but the extreme weather also gives good basis for government to push the preparedness narrative without causing more alarm by actually saying what they're, actually trying to say: this is also because we know a cyber attack or interference with our power infrastructure is very possible and very soon. The emergency alert last month citing wildfire risk was relevant, but also a good opportunity for them to test the system. It wasn't all about the wildfires. I don't understand the reluctance if you're in a position to do so to put away supplies that will deal with a few days plus emergency, leaving emergency services to help those who literally haven't been able to do so or are perhaps alone/vulnerable/had no means to do so. Plenty of other civilised nations encourage their citizens to do just this, on, usually, a 72 hour basis, to leave emergency services and aid for those who really need it if it becomes necessary.
