Isn't "she" gorgeous? Look at "her".......argh!

This trend (on Insta etc) for referring to inanimate objects as "she"........it is infuriating - handbags, holiday homes, bronzer......make it stop! I'm a 50 year old women and largely follow women of a similar age. It's infantile and ridiculous. AiBU?

Never heard a car, bus etc being referred to as a she, only a ship and tgere is a long history to that. In short, a ship was regarded as protecting sailors like a mother would her children. Who on earth refers to a handbag as a she!

I can just about imagine an enthusiast using ‘she’ for a particularly beloved (there’s another word being abused recently) vintage bus. If I heard someone at a bus stop talking about ‘her’ being on time or not, however, I’d find it very weird.

I only really encountered this when wedding dress shopping (with a friend). ‘Now this dress is Layla, she’s an a-line silk blah blah’. It took a while to stop myself actually looking for Layla.

It seems to be the buzz word amongst journalists. They talk about curating a wedding, curating a new outfit, curating an event. 😂😂😂

It's not an Instagram trend. The word "She" has been used to refer to ships for hundreds of years. Cars, planes, trains, busses, all "She".

Thats not the same as calling every day items "she" 🤣

It’s so fucking annoying. I said the same on another thread

And it’s ironic that at a time very moment we’re becoming increasingly careful about assigning pronouns to actual people, we’re enthusiastically assigning she/her to fucking handbags and shoes. I even saw someone upholster a footstool on IG recently, and she proudly said ‘isn’t she gorgeous?’ at the end. 😡

We have a local boutique owner who does videos like this, and she gives all of the clothing items a woman's name as well.

'So here we have the dazzling Isabella blouse, she has a lovely batwing sleeve and diamanté buttons, and she comes in pink, blue and green girls, one size fits all!'
