Isn't "she" gorgeous? Look at "her".......argh!

This trend (on Insta etc) for referring to inanimate objects as "she"........it is infuriating - handbags, holiday homes, bronzer......make it stop! I'm a 50 year old women and largely follow women of a similar age. It's infantile and ridiculous. AiBU?

There's a new trend (or it might have been around for a while as I don't spend much time on Instagram) for people demonstrating recipies to refer to chicken breasts as chicken boobs or boobies. As in, " grab your slow cooker, add some onions, peppers, a tin of tomatoes and some chicken boobies" cringe inducing nonsense

I'm relieved to see Nobody's Child has stopped calling everything 'she'. I think they were near the forefront of this ridiculous fad, so perhaps it's on the way out. Sorry, perhaps she's on the way out - taking her tapping and rustling with her!

Yes, this she malarky is nauseating. This has nothing to do with ships etc, that has been a long tradition. This is about somebody saying she once in reference to something like a handbag and then it run like wildfire among the influencers, who just copy each other these days. Along with the aforementioned obsessed, it’s giving, the tapping. Another one is this cutesy (in their head) wiggle of the shoulder for no reason. They should just all come on and baa like a sheep because that is what they are, that could be their shorthand so they can drop all the other infantile mannerisms. It is bad enough young women do it, really cringe making when older women do it. It’s giving desperate, tap tap.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 This has been a thing longer than you've been alive. When cars first came out owners started giving them names, largely female. IN 1920's women would femininise their furs ("isn't she just divine). Military and mariners have called ships and boats she since the first ships. Why else do you think they carved female figurehead on the bow. Ancient societies humanised objects and festivals. Heck many modern languages still use male/female for objects: LE table (the table is male) vs. LA maison (a house is female) We've also had gender neutral and singular plural pronoun for hundreds of years. Language literally embraces gender AND gender neutrality.

You are definitely being utterly ridiculous. Heck even professional often name their equipment. Cyclists/Triathletes love to name our bicycles. My 8yo called her first road bike Froglette (female) Mine is Cailleach (female).

So wrong. Objects are not male/female or masculine/feminine at all. It is the WORD which is masculine or feminine. And it’s LA table in French by the way - which other posters will have pointed out by now.

I've never seen this. I'm 50 and I barely go on Instagram. When I do it's all cute animal videos and classic Hollywood dance routines, not vapid influencers. I never see anything like that as I'm not interested.

The word "haul" makes me cringe when it is being used by influencers for their videos of the latest load of stuff they have bought from Temu/Shien/Primark/The Range/B and M/Home Bargains. I must confess to hate watching a few on YouTube and wondering where on earth they put all the things they buy every month, how can they ever wear even a quarter of it, how many handbags,(" it's giving me Chanel vibes") how much costume jewellery, toiletries does one person actually use? Do they send half of it back, sell it on? how much money can you make on YouTube by just filming yourself going round these places every month and then then wafting on about it online?

Waffling on.

I also dislike hearing people referring to their young dogs as "little man" or their boy children that either.

'She' for ships etc is pretty much frowned on in the publishing world these days, so I'm surprised to hear about it being used for handbags and bronzers. It's very annoying and if I heard someone IRL say that I would want to slap them.

That reminds me of when I bought a couple of tops in a department store in Florida. As I walked away from the till after paying, the assistant yelled "Enjoy your blouses!" 😂

And while we are on the topic of misused language may i call out one of the most overused and incorrectly used words that has now been all but stripped of meaning, it is iconic. Why is every bloody thing from a crisp flavour though to a lipstick by way of TV series iconic? An icon was of course a religious picture or a symbol of a large concept or a very famous person (and no this does not mean someone who was once on Love Island or got the the quarter finals of X Factor 15 years ago) and now it's every other bloody thing. I am not one for banning things but I wish icon/iconic could have a very long holiday
