Women seem determined to infantilise themselves. I see this in the workplace too, the younger ones speaking in a cutesy way, making a statement sound like an uncertain question, it feels people pleasing/social media driven. These are highly educated and competent females who are dumbing themselves down for no reason, they work in a highly inclusive workplace so they do not need to pander to anyone, it is just something they have picked up as being cute.

This 👆 is the most depressing aspect of all this. Gloria Steinem died today. She would be depressed by this shit.

I think part of why it’s annoying is that each person doing it is talking like that because everyone else is, and therefore showing themselves as chronically online sheep.

I’ve noticed terminology relating to neurodiversity creeping into neurotypical influencer content, and I think it must be the popularity of ADHD content spilling out into people talking absolute shite. I saw a pregnant influencer talk about a particular food - and bearing in mind she could have said craving! - as her latest ‘hyper fixation’. I’m not ND btw, but I find it soo irritating.

Oh FFS we’ve got to stop stealing psychological language. Like trauma, obsession, OCD, trigger…..hyper-fixation has just about finished me off.
it belittles the people who need these terms!

Oh I used to love this when I was in my 20s and living in Europe where everything is masculine or feminine, and I created this (very annoying) habit of coming back to the UK and referring to 'things' as he/she - I thought I was oh so cultured - no you dickhead you're oh so annoying
anyways, that's my little anecdote, very much related and yet unrelated to this thread 😅

It's also a thing on BookTube. The other day I heard "She's chunky!" and thought that was a controversial thing to say, but it was a giant paperback. Then again, a male BookTuber called something a "chunky boy" (or probably "boi") recently, so maybe it's women using "she"?

My pet peeve is female lifestyle infuencers whose content is all Home Bargains hauls and makeup starting every video with "Hello guys", when I doubt a man has ever viewed their channel.

And those tiny microphones are ridiculous! I think word is getting out, though, because I saw someone had clipped hers to a fish slice (it was giving proper microphone, as they say), which I had to admire :-)

I once bought a dress from Rixo. They referred to all the dresses as ‘she/her’ I did panic buy one in the end despite being weirded out. ‘She’ has only been worn once and I haven’t been back since, shudder.

I totally agree. It's patronising, affected, stupid.
It instantly means I will NEVER buy that product, nor follow the f*ckwit influencer who speaks that way.
It's beyond infuriating!!

And it’s ironic that at a time very moment we’re becoming increasingly careful about assigning pronouns to actual people, we’re enthusiastically assigning she/her to fucking handbags and shoes. I even saw someone upholster a footstool on IG recently, and she proudly said ‘isn’t she gorgeous?’ at the end. 😡

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’m so confused. I don’t even know my own pronoun anymore and I’m beginning to see the kitchen table as a ‘she’ - she does have beautiful legs.
