AIBU to still feel shaken after drunk men made vile comments on Wizz Air flight?

I’m sure they’re vile specimens with or without alcohol but I think there needs to be a massive rethink about the extent to which people can get totally shitfaced in airports and on flights.

I accept banning alcohol penalises perfectly law abiding and sensible people who want a drink, and don’t act like this (which includes me), but too often flights are effectively taken over by chanting, loud, drunk wankers.

I’d have got my phone out, pressed record and asked him to repeat the comment.

@morello1 I don't know where you flying from or to in the UK but I never fly from Liverpool now because of the swearing (it's nothing more than punctuation locally), loud. inconsiderate and inappropriate behaviour - it's horrible when you have kids with you too... and yet - if you go to Liverpool there are so many friendly and likeable people there as well as the odd scally. I go out of my way to East Midlands where possible as I loath Manchester Airport.

We were on a flight to a very popular holiday destination recently and had the misfortune to be on the same flight as several groups of men who had been drinking before the flight and carried on drinking during it. They were very loud, foul-mouthed and intimidating. I was sitting next to my teenage niece and was braced to react if anything was said to or about her. Imo airlines need to stop serving alcohol. The cabin crew on the flight were young and predominantly female. Given that safety is supposed to be the priority I do wonder what risk assessment had been carried out. Splitting up some of these groups may go some way to clamping down on the frankly disgusting behaviour.

I would not be letting this drop. It is a dereliction of duty by the airline if their staff continue to serve alcohol to drunk passengers. Write to the CEO of Wizair and the Civil Aviation Authority, outlining everything that happened on the flight quoting the crime number. The airline could find these people if they wanted to and i would ask what additional staff training they will be putting in place. If they fob you off, post the details of your experience on every review you can find. I would also be approaching a national newspaper who are often more than happy to run stories like this.

Sorry to hear all that but cabin crew late teens and above isn't that uncommon these days, even at some legacy airlines, even on Long Haul flights......TBH it's at least part a consequence of the demand for Low Fares driving costs down.

Anyhow regardless of age and wages the cabin crew should have been trained in how to handle disruptive passengers, and most places the regulator insists on some degree of experience across the crew as a whole, so you shouldn't have a whole team of newbies...

I wish you luck in getting some resolution with this but for reasons previously stated I think it'll be a struggle to get much beyond a generic reply.

Do not let up with either airline or police. Their list of suspects is bloody tiny really. This ought to be an easy solve. I've been on buses and trains recently advertising campaigns to end violence against women and girls. Please remind both organisations they're supposed to give a shit, even if it's just for optics.

I can only assume that its because she had to witness the horrible behaviour and was getting more and more upset at the thought of her 9 year old DD having to experience it.. and the final remarks were shocking and said to OP directly, with the full intention of upsetting and shocking her.

Alcohol shouldn't be allowed on flights period. It infuriates me that in 2026 they still bloody allow it!

Put it on social media platforms, make an anonymous account, tag the airline, describe the men, flight times, destination etc, it wil be shared and people will recognise them and the airline may well respond this way

Get on social media and make a fuss, if you’re lucky a paper will pick it up and the airline will feel forced to do something. The police will do fuck all and the airline clearly won’t care unless they receive bad publicity. The men were gross, drunk people shouldn’t be allowed on flights.

. Cheapo airlines have a lower age limit of 18 for cabin crew so they could have been teenagers.

I know Wizz have a reputation but It's not just "cheapos" that recruit 18 year old.. quite a few of the legacy airlines do the same.

In any event this is starting to sound like this might be turning into another Cabin Crew bashing thread without good reason (second one in a few days)...

If the Cabin Crew had been informed by the OP of the vile behaviour and refused to intervene then some of the complaints here might be justified.....but as far as I can work out they weren't.

Leave it to the staff to sort. Raise the issue with them and let them deal with it.

Do shut up. Some people are just dicks are they? I’ve unfortunately encountered some very nasty characters in my time, non of which have made remarks about raping children. What sort of scum do you surround yourself with that has desensitised you to this language?

You sound like a simple person, think beyond what this behaviour implies. If he can make such a remark on a crowded plane to a mother infront of many witnesses, what do you think he’s capable of in private?

The police most likely won’t have much grounds to take action, but that doesn’t mean his behaviour should go unchallenged completely.

I’m sure steward/ stewardess were aware of behaviour and language without op having to have a discreet word with them. I imagine if the staff were young, as op says, they were themselves intimidated.

I hope enough people complain about and escalate similar situations so alcohol stops being served on flights altogether and drunken people are not allowed on.

It doesn't need to be explicit. But post the flight details, your seat and that the police are investigating a serious incident and any footage of the 3 men behind you or details would help.

OP, everyone on here understandably wants you to pursue it as they don't want the guy that get away with it .... But you do need to think about the impact on your own mental health. It's worrying that you keep replaying it in your head and feel it's impossible to move on, as ultimately, disgusting though his comment was, nobody was actually physically harmed.

I suggest maybe talking to a counsellor, seeing what they suggest? As you do, ultimately, need to move on from this event.
