AIBU to think parents should lose benefits /homes for persistently antisocial children?

This has been suggested, im not sure if it will happen , but i think this is a great idea, if the parents think they will lose their council house and benefits , they may attempt to to control their feral offspring .

My friend is in a local harriers group that starts at a local sports centre in the rough part of town, they are now having to stop their favourite route because of gangs of young teens who intimidate them , run along side them and are abusive, one delightful boy said “ lift your legs higher you c**t ,

How have we come to this ?
Do you think it will make any difference ?

I would remove child benefit from them too , maybe this will force them to parent if they risk losing money or their home

Obviously not all the parents are bad, but virtually all the awful kids round here riding motor bikes with hoods, abusing people are from the council estates near by

Im absolutely sick of it, and sick of decent people being targeted by them

What rules /sanctions would wise mumsnetters suggest ?

If they in a tent they can be moved on by the police. They aren't living next door to someone and making their life a misery in the long term.

And also, seeing antisocial families out on the street would set an example to other anti-social people to sort themselves out before they are in the same position.

All the people who think that antisocial families shouldn't lose their homes can have those families housed next door to them to see how they like it. If they don't like this, they have no argument as they can't expect anyone else to put up with it if they aren't prepared to.

Where do you think they will live? They won't cease to exist so they will end up next door to someone anyway - possibly in a tent on the street outside your house.

How do you think grinding poverty is going to help the situation?

And what about households not on benefits whose children behave badly? Or do you just hate people who claim benefits?

Edited

This. 100%. It would only make things much, much worse.

A fine calculated to hurt is not equivalent to being kicked out of your home.

So every kid that’s goes bad comes from a council house and parents on benefits!!!!!

I live in a council house and am on pip and esa due to disabilities that I won’t go into. My son is polite and well behaved.

so how do it punish the other parents or it it just kids from council houses?

most of the trouble at my lads school come from over privileged kids who think they have it made. So what do we do with them, or do they get a pass.

I imagine a corresponding forfeit would apply: a fine calculated to hurt.

I've never said "my body, my choice" on MN so...

No but you did suggest state sanctioned sterilisation....

You think there aren’t kids from ‘nice middle class and wealthy ‘ families that aren’t trouble making feral little shits? They just have parents that can get them out of any consequences. Once a child becomes bigger and stronger than there parent and say has a single parent who has removed them from a fb setting but their abusive fathers behaviour has already been modelled what should a parent like this do? It’s not all clear cut. It’s not all or just kids from council house or benefit backgrounds. They are just the easy ones to vilify as usual on mumsnet.

Take away the devices and give stickers, lol.

I wish children here were taught in the primary school that they have not only rights, but also responsibilities. That respect for other people, your friends, teachers, family etc. is very important to live in a cohesive society. Something that they teach i.e. in continental Europe. We have gone too much here into individual happiness and making yourself happy - the ultimate goal in your life. Which translates great into the ultra-consumerist society (to make yourself happy with 'things') and ultimately loneliness (because we cast away everybody whom we disagree with).

They are taught this, there’s a whole section of the national curriculum devoted to it and it’s checked by Ofsted.

I tell you what.

It will make them behave a whole lot better than arranging a game of ping pong in a community centre for them!

Anyway, what hyperbole...starve my arse. Will they not be able to afford a loaf of bread a day.

You are guilty of soft slope head thinking which is why we are ruled by anti social behaviour in many areas.

Punishment is meant to punish and when it doesn't, then it's not punishment is it?

Tell me you’re never had to struggle for anything without telling me.

I guess mummy and daddy wiped your ass for too long which is why you’re so ignorant and entitled.

Not everyone had the bank of mummy and daddy to give them a leg up in life.

OneLilacHedgehog · 02/09/2026 13:12

Let's see. Cut off benefits for kids who are already out of control in public spaces and let them sleep rough.
Yeah can't see any issue with this at all. I mean there is no way they would gang together to commit more crime would they?

Can only assume this is sarcastic.

Here’s hoping!

Don't take them into care. Leave them on the streets. Let them serve as an example to others.

OMG yes! Good point. And perhaps these wretched children will perish and “decrease the surplus population”. What an example! This will work.

What a fascinating insight into your mind or what a beautiful ragey post.

OneLilacHedgehog · 02/09/2026 12:50

We would spend a small fortune taking the kids into care. Our taxes would have to rise or services cut even more.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 02/09/2026 12:44

So who is then going to look after and financially supportsaid children ... or are they just going to be on the streets?

AndImVictoriaMalcolm · 02/09/2026 12:35

I’m sure I’ve heard of families being evicted from social housing for persistent antisocial behaviour before. I doubt it’s an easy thing to do but I’m not against it.

This is a great idea plus sterilize the parents

Indeed they are.

In my utopian world, if I was PM, I would build public schools and run them exactly along the same lines as Eton etc, with the same facilities and the same discipline. I would send seriously feral children to these schools, and they would permanently board.

This gets them away from their useless parents (the parents would also lose child related benefits), get them away from the environment that has created them, and bring peace to their neighbours.

It would be cheaper in the long run than the cost to society of the damage these scrotes inflict over a lifetime.

This is a great idea plus sterilize the parents

I'm one of the "moved away" families

That pretty much sums it up

Yet when I say i now avoid living near social housing, I'm called a snob by people thst haven't lived it 😂

ToWhitToWhoo · 02/09/2026 11:46

It's one thing if parents are actually assisting their offending children, or seriously neglecting them; but what if a son is abusing his mother- a not unknown situation. Also, one child might be a criminal and their siblings fine; should everyone in the family be punished for one person's actions? And how do you take away their homes if they own their homes or are renting privately without council assistance? It just selectively punishes poorer families- and may cause or increase the problem of antisocial behaviour, as if a desperately poor family has no financial support other than, for example, the teenage son's drug dealing, they have a strong incentive to encourage or condone the criminal behaviour.
