AIBU to think parents should lose benefits /homes for persistently antisocial children?

This has been suggested, im not sure if it will happen , but i think this is a great idea, if the parents think they will lose their council house and benefits , they may attempt to to control their feral offspring .

My friend is in a local harriers group that starts at a local sports centre in the rough part of town, they are now having to stop their favourite route because of gangs of young teens who intimidate them , run along side them and are abusive, one delightful boy said “ lift your legs higher you c**t ,

How have we come to this ?
Do you think it will make any difference ?

I would remove child benefit from them too , maybe this will force them to parent if they risk losing money or their home

Obviously not all the parents are bad, but virtually all the awful kids round here riding motor bikes with hoods, abusing people are from the council estates near by

Im absolutely sick of it, and sick of decent people being targeted by them

What rules /sanctions would wise mumsnetters suggest ?

And how will it be better when they're homeless and penniless and making even more of a nuisance of themselves because they'll then the whole family will need to steal and do god knows what just to eat?

And one of my favourite lines from this toolkit for the people who suggested military style camps: "The research suggests that young people who participate in a boot camp have been 6% more likely to become involved in future violent and non-violent crime."

The kids from the worst homes preferred bootcamp and did not want to go home.

Now imagine those families having their houses and benefits taken from them. Do you think their behaviour would improve or would they just ramp up the antisocial behaviour, they probably already get more money from criminal activities than benefits. I have no sympathy with these people but putting them out on the street will not help anyone.

Yes and at that point they certainly won’t give a shiny shit how their little darlings behave because once they’re on the streets and at rock bottom they’ll have nothing to lose.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/09/2026 20:10

I don’t disagree in principle but how is making people ans children homeless going to help anyone. Also what do we do about the Parents who actually own their own homes you can’t throw them out with the garbage can you.

Well there are no consequences for any behaviour these days - and this what you get.

I think there should be consequences just not consequences that make things worse.

This is a really credible source and one of the highest impact interventions to reduce violence are nutrition programmes. So much for the loaf of bread a day for kids on the street punishment one poster suggested...

There is no shame within some of these families. Never their fault, always others. Look at the balloon events for those scum who killed the police officers.

You would think they would keep a low profile but they were showing off and unfortunately the rest of us were having two fingers given to us. Look at the low lifes who dragged PC Harper to his death. Wave and laughing during the case. Shame on them…

Well, maybe giving some peer pressure onto your brother and showing him that his behaviour is affecting you might help him recognise that he needs to change.

It’s not always someone else’s fault/problem to deal with.

And when they don’t respond to said peer pressure either because they’re addicted to drugs, mentally ill or just complete selfish cunts who don’t care about their family?
Just make the entire family homeless because of one person’s transgressions? It’s in the bible not to punish the son for the sin of the father and vice versa

I think that its partly down to the current political climate but I suggest that the state needs to find its mojo again and a willingness to step in where needed.

That means addressing ASB and everything around the perpetrators.

I dont want to get diverted by 'what' but it should be programmes and interventions which can be shown to work

I live in middle Class suburbia.

How do we punish the parents of the feral shits around here?

How is this going to solve the problem? Families on the street? Children would be removed and put into the care system which, for many, doesn’t live up to its name. Adults with no home, no address, can't wash, can't sleep...not going to be able to work. Crime will result. The rich will end up in gated communities to keep safe.

Better to invest in families, providing support, education, information, practical advice. Improve schools, listen to teachers about what is required.

Your way only brings us all down.

Being broke and homeless as a suitable punishment? Is this how some people think now?
What happens to the parents who are not in social housing or on benefits?

You might have missed insinuations that gang rape/beatings of youths in strict institutions is also accepted by some posters as collateral punishment too. Or nutritional starvation with just a loaf of bread a day. Or babies in tents on the street if their older siblings misbehave.

Horrible and ridiculous in equal measure.

My older brother became involved in drugs and went off the rails at a young age, you really think me and the rest of my family should of been homeless because of what he did ?

Don’t be so bloody ridiculous!

RoyalImpatience · 02/09/2026 19:34

I could give you a list , a novel of the kind of deprivation these families
/ Teens have faced. They have no respect for adults probably coz adults let them down as children and they had hard gritty scary childhoods.

However the threat of stopping benefits may help along with parenting courses and therapy and in many cases education ie learning to read.

All the people who think that antisocial families shouldn't lose their homes can have those families housed next door to them to see how they like it. If they don't like this, they have no argument as they can't expect anyone else to put up with it if they aren't prepared to.

If their families are anti-social, yes. What is the alternative? To keep rehousing them, have them cause misery for their neighbours, and then evict them and rehouse them again and again? At what point do we say enough is enough?

Absurd. You are as absurd as the poster who thought depictions of gang raped young people while guards watched and smirked / young people who gruesomely kill themselves or get severely brutalised by staff and other inmates (as depicted in the referenced film Scum) was a good way to run borstals and that we should bring them back just like that for antisocial behaviour.

I don't think it's a hysterical "think of the children" to be shocked at the thought some people would see innocent babies in tents on the streets (in winter too?) because someone else in their family was antisocial.

Or you're not for real...

You're despicable.

Wishing a child to be homeless.

ChorizoDog · 02/09/2026 19:04

Based on your assumption that antisocial children are from council estates, then you’d just be making the poor, poorer.

How would you suggest we punish the parents of antisocial children, that own their own homes or not claiming benefits?

OonaStubbs · 02/09/2026 18:59

OhNoooooooooooooooo · 02/09/2026 18:57

are you genuinely suggesting that children should live in tents on the streets??

If they in a tent they can be moved on by the police. They aren't living next door to someone and making their life a misery in the long term.

And also, seeing antisocial families out on the street would set an example to other anti-social people to sort themselves out before they are in the same position.
