AIBU to wonder how much others spend on coffee and eating out?

Just enjoyed a delicious coffee at an NT property.

Will she be increasing her coffee consumption if she's spending less than everyone else? What would the purpose of benchmarking be?

Ignoring holidays or weekends away... so a normal working week in my house: Maybe £150-£250 per month per adult? As a maximum, for myself, I might buy 2 coffees out per week (£32 for a 4-week month), have 2 takeaways per month (£50 for the month), and then spend another £40 per weekend on things like a drink in the pub and cafe sandwich. I don't go to restaurants regularly because I don't find them great value, and tend to be shocked at the bill.

But I don't do that every week/month. I would say the figures above quite extreme for a normal week or month at home. For example, I haven't had any coffees out this week, and I didn't have any takeaways last month. This weekend just gone, I only spent £10 on a couple of soft drinks out.

If I was also counting holidays, weekends away, birthday treats - then a lot more! I don't cook when I'm on holiday, and sometimes pick a fancy restaurant for a birthday meal.

DH and I both get a takeaway coffee 3/4 times a week, we have brunch out maybe once a week and eat out in the evening a bit less, maybe once a fortnight. I'd have to check our spreadsheet but I think we budget £150 a week for eating/drinking out and that's about what I reckon we spend.

We don't really do much on a regular basis, maybe my husband has a McDonald's once a week and during the summer I might have a couple of drinks out once a week.

For us it's more occasions like birthdays where we plan for meals out, holidays or travels where we stop at the services (maybe 3-4 times a year) or the random "CBA to cook, let's get a takeaway" or "let's go get some drinks out" Usually on or just after pay day when we are feeling a bit flush.

It used to be a lot more regular but we are definitely feeling the pinch so I'm more likely to splash out on some steaks from the supermarket, make a cake or do a big roast dinner. It makes the food bill higher but it's cheaper than going out.

Around £600 per month average , though that will include eating out on holidays. Take out the holidays and it’s around £250 per month.

Just me and I probably average £50 a week on eating out.

We have stopped doing take aways as they are so expensive now and where we live the quality has gone downhill.

coffee, I usually meet a friend once a week and we will have a couple of coffees, so I guess £12 a week.

Too much. But it sounds like I'm normal from this thread! I stopped when prices went up, but now I'm like "oh well".

I've been eating out every day with kids during the holidays... it's a way to get us to go for a walk while we're mostly stuck at home (I'm WFH) - still cheaper than childcare!

£200-£300 a month on eating out/takeaways as a family of 3, spent £4 on a rubbish coffee at a music festival this weekend which is the first coffee I’ve bought this year!
It’s either made at home or made in the office where we have a lovely bean to cup machine, I only drink black coffee and hate all these artificially sweet, milky concoctions that coffee shops sell so going out for coffee is wasted on me

DH has one coffee out a week. He spends a lot on good quality coffee which he makes at home instead but I'm cool with that as it still saves a fortune on getting take out coffee.

Not much on coffee out, we try to take ours with us if we can. But we eat out pretty much every week at least once. So around £50-£100 per week

So? Some people don't. You need people to spend money to keep your economy going.

£0 on coffee I will bring my own drink from home have a lovely flask for hot chocolate.
Food really varies over the 6 weeks with trips out maybe £100-150
Normal months vary from £0 - £40 maybe. That would most likely be fish and chips or an emergency mcdonalds when we've gone out/stuck in traffic and kids are starving.

It's the easiest place to save when you're not in the routine of buying food or coffee out because it's not something you miss.

So many restaurants I find aren't really worth the cost I'd rather do a nice meal at home.

Personally, about £20 per week (coffees, meal deals for lunch)
family outings, takeout etc is about £100 per month (me, DH and adult DD).
DH and DD don’t like coffee and usually make themselves lunch at home, so they are cheaper than me. We don’t often have takeaways and we eat out sporadically.

Virtually nothing , I've never bought into the takeaway coffee culture and prefer to cook at home. We used to have an occasional fish supper, but our local chippy closed down.

I think we probably spend £200 a month as a family of four. We don't eat out that regularly but like the occasional takeaway/ meal out / treat, and it soon adds up.

Never buy takeaway coffees but go to a local coffee morning roughly twice a month so £5 a go.
We go for lunch once a month but it's to a garden centre or golf club so arounx £17 each.

I love a nice coffee but I have stepped away from buying high street coffee as near me its around £4+ a cup which is a bit of a piss take.

Eating out has also become ludicrously expensive in recent years with often an equal decline in quality. That spur of the moment treat of a starter, pizza and bottle wine for two down the local Italian used to be about £60 not so long ago, nearly double that now.

About £100 a month between two of us - it probably averages out at 2 meals (either takeaway or in a pub/cafe) plus a handful of coffees and cakes.

Coffee 10-15. Eat out only about once a month, it’s too expensive. £40 pm

I spend a fortune on coffee. Best guess £60 a month. I daren’t actually add it all up though.
