AIBU to feel hurt husband left me walking back alone in pain

We are in Spain on holiday. Every evening we’ve gone for a family walk after dinner. It’s been lovely.
Yesterday husband was having tummy pain (digestive reasons) and so we stopped our walk short, and we went back to hotel and we all walked together back at a slow pace because he was pain.
This evening family walk all lovely for the first half, we went quite far and then I started to get insane period cramping (I have endo and PCOS) and it was intense pain. We started to walk back. My husband and son were walking ahead, of me and my daughter. I was a lot lot slower than usual as was in a lot of pain, the DS (14) and DH ended up very very far ahead of us, my daughter (15) then started to need a wee so I said she could run ahead so she ran ahead to DS and DH and I assumed at least my husband would wait for me or come back and find me but no no, it was dark on roads I don’t know well and I walked back to hotel alone in agony, expected husband to at least be waiting in hotel reception when I eventually got there but nope he had gone up to room without me.

This made me feel a little resentful and sad, am I overreacting/being unreasonable?

The DD was walking with the OP, but needed the toilet, so ran ahead to her father.
Where has this sudden inability for women to function independently, come from?

She has endo. It has nothing to do with sny lack of fortitude in women.

Where has DDs alleged incontinence come from in your own posts where you’re imagining that she’d have to urinate on the floor if she didn’t rush back immediately?! A teen girl needing the loo can generally hold it long enough to find an appropriate receptacle. If she did have continence issues as your posts imply, DS and DD could have hurried ahead with one room key while DH supported OP. It’s not that complicated for people to help each other and show they give a shit.

My DH is lovely and very kind when I have medical issues, but would have done the same in this situation. He'd have seen me sending DD ahead to him as my asking him to get her back to the hotel for a wee.

If DD weeing at the side of the road (as suggested here) was the best option, that would be for OP to decide, by sending her to DH to rush back to the hotel, OP was getting what she communicated to DH. OP, if you wanted company and wanted DD to get back to the hotel quickly, it's really on you to have said to DD "and ask DS to come back to walk with me."

No true. This is not the order of events at sll.

That was the choice. The DD needed the toilet. So he leaves the teenagers, because teen girls aren't ever in any danger, or he leaves the other adult, or DD pisses in the street. If ,always one, means narrowing dien the questions, yes I'm good at that.

It’s not stated that DH knew why OP had slowed her pace though

I have to agree with the above Poster.
In your original post, nowhere do you state that your husband knew you were in pain. Indeed he walked ahead therefore not knowing.

He told you he was in pain, hence cutting short the walk to get back.
You do not seem to have relayed your suffering to him.

It's all to easy to make him a villain, and perhaps he might be, but on what you've written, I do have my doubts, but also you may have missed telling us something so my opinion is not set in stone.

He had digestive issues - was he wanting to get back to the toilet?

He'd probably have sped up for that. Apparently they all went slowly for him.

Afterthefact · 03/09/2026 03:09

I think you were expecting the same consideration as everyone gave him when he had tummy pains? He won't get it unless you completely ignore his moans next time he's suffering and leave him to it.

tretaddict · 01/09/2026 21:41

He shouldn’t have left you. I’ve got to a point where I can’t get off the floor due to endo pain, what if you had collapsed?

100% agree. I had stage 4 endo and my DH saw me doubled over unable to move at all and passing out from the pain. He never understood until he saw me experience it, but after he had, there's no way on earth he would have left me in this situation. I'm so sorry for the OP.

This has happened to me too and it’s rude. Men just don’t think when it comes to women’s safety, or about manners I’ve found

Sorry, may have missed some replies - assuming he is aware of your ongoing pain issues, did he think or even consider that you were safe or not in a dark unknown area, & just bugger off - does he ever read the news these days? I would be furious - he should have come back to check on you once DD was back at the hotel & OK. (or she could even have had a wee at the side of the road, maybe make a joke out of it?- no, not the best outcome for her / embarrassing etc, but pretty sure it would be better than being deserted by 'D'H'). He is an inconsiderate twat & needs to wake up & look after his whole family. I think my vg would clamp shut for the rest of the holiday, and would have a deep talk with this manchild once home??

seahorsessky · 02/09/2026 22:09

If he had digestive issues, and your daughter needed a wee, it makes sense for them to run ahead and your son to walk with you.

Missblossom · 02/09/2026 21:34

Of course she hasn't said anything to her husband, she just wants to seeth quietly and pointlessly to herself, my husband wouldn't of done this but if he had i would of told him to hold up and wait for me, like an adult!

Did you want your teenage children to be left alone instead? Or your DD just piss on the floor? Did you have a phone on you?

They were on a quiet, dark country road, DD could have found somewhere to wee. One of them could have waited for OP.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 02/09/2026 20:19

Sorry I’m confused, you told your daughter to run ahead as she needed the loo, but expected her to reach your husband and them all to then stop and wait? I don’t understand the point of this, as I’m sure you’d not wish the kids to walk back alone in the dark either?

This is what I don’t understand.

She told her DD to go ahead and so DH would have taken her back to go toilet.

The alternative is that DD would walk back to the hotel on her own, which as a mother I couldn’t want.

Do you think he had to take the kids back as your daughter needed the loo?

Contain4 · 02/09/2026 20:13

Did you want DD to walk on her own or with DH?

You told her to go on ahead and so I assumed she told him that you said to go on ahead quicker and he went with her.

I would have expected him to take DD back (potentially telling DS to walk with you) but then come back and meet you to make sure you were ok.

You were ok with DD walking on her own and so they couldn’t have been that far ahead, so it maybe that he assumed you were not far behind.

GrantMyWishes · 02/09/2026 19:27

So, have you tackled him about this yet OP?

Did you miss the bit where DD was walking with her and DH and DS already in the distance - DD needing the toilet was not the reason he walked on ahead, that happened later

Sennelier1 · 02/09/2026 18:15

I think you should've yelled "wait for me, I can't manage on my own". And yes, he should've known better than to leave you alone, but men like that......you need to confront them or they "didn't know".

Not my husband. I am in a lot of pain regularly because of endo and he genuinely cares about it more than me.

In two minds OP, he was right to walk your children back to the hotel but I think not coming back to make sure you’re ok is very inconsiderate and selfish. How far away from the hotel were you?

AtomicBlondeRose · 02/09/2026 07:36

LivelyRedFawn · 02/09/2026 07:33

Have you said anything to him about it? He is probably thoughtless and needs to be told not to do that again. He will likely get shitty about you mentioning it but you need to, ride out the dark mood, and hold your mettle. He probably won't do it again after that if he is actually a decent guy.

Oh yes! Surely this makes sense! Husbands, as everyone knows, can have no working memory for a wife’s health issues. They begin each day with their little minds wiped of all unimportant details.
