Not at all surprised. I’m mixed race as is my husband. We have 3 children and I’ve been shocked at the staggering amount of racism one of my children in particular has experienced when out playing from
both adults and children. I grew up in a predominantly white area in the 80s and 90s and didn’t experience nearly as much racism as my child has had recently. There’s a definite shift so i’m not at all
surprised his sons have experienced this as children are influenced by what their parents say at home. It makes me so sad!

I have a (mixed race) teenager at a ‘good’ state school in a very diverse area of London. I’m shocked at some of the stuff she tells me about how young people talk to each other.

Black and mixed race girls subject to frequent racist and misogynistic BS - ‘dark skinned girls are ugly / light skinned girls are slags’ type tropes.

Its like British society has gone back 50 years.

I grew up (white) in inner London in the 90s and went to a school of a similar profile. This wouldn’t have washed at all. We policed racism ourselves. Nobody could have used the N/P words without severe consequences - social ostracisation at the very least.

It’s really worrying how emboldened racists now seem to feel about spouting their nasty shit.

It's awful, bigotry definitely seems to be getting worse, I've seen so much more awful racism, misogyny and ableism recently. I think some of it is due to social media, and some of it is just that life is getting harder and everyone is under a lot more stress which is making people lash out and want to find someone to blame. 😢

This is one of the reasons we left the UK, me and our son were receiving more racist abuse than I had until that point ever experienced. We had also had a few incidents where children in his class had said “my mum/dad said you’re a (insert racist term here). Racism was becoming more common at the local play parks as well.

Look at how some people reacted on here when black mumsnetters was in discussion, the amount of racism wasn’t just awful, but MN were happy to leave most of the racist comments to stay. When we have a poster asking if a place is safe to live for black people, again, racists arrive to abuse them.

Definitely a Reform thing. My daughter got bullied by multiple children for having “that immigrant stench” about her, and lots of other immigrant and Farage related abuse. Her dad is a white Canadian. I can’t even imagine what it must be like when actual racism is also in the mix.

Lashing out at the wrong people, is not going to improve anybody's life. The focus should be on the real issues, and those who have the power to do something about them.

Both my mixed race sons have been called the ‘n’ word by peers. In one case the racist also likened him to a monkey and made other racist remarks. This is a university student who lived in the same house and had previously been a friend. When he reported it to the Uni she denied the comments and they did nothing. My other son was called the ‘n’ word by a friend of one of his uni flat mates. When challenged he claimed it was just ‘banter’. These were educated young people who I thought would know better but sadly not.

Nigel and his buddies getting voted in are only going to make it worse. You would think we would be over judging people by the colour of their skin by now.

Personally I like that they didn’t have a poll because it means people who say yes or no usually elaborate somewhat as to why they believe what they do.

They never do. The class system is so entrenched in the UK and deep down these people feel the rich wealthy are their betters. They would rather punch down.

And many of the ones at the top orchestrating it are typically rich/wealthy wanting to divert other people’s attention from their wealth hoarding eg Farage.

Although given his school reports he does genuinely hold these repugnant views so I guess you could say at least he’s authentic 😣authentically vile.
