To still be hurt and angry that I was ‘Wendied’ 15 years ago

DH and I were very friendly with a group of people, 3 couples. They came to our wedding, one of the men was my husbands best man etc. We all had children around the same time. Kids all got on in school and were invited to each others parties etc.

Then, two other couples joined the group, one woman was always a ‘Queen Bee’ type but nice enough, the other got a job as teacher in our small local primary school.

The teacher taught my daughter but unfortunately I had some issues with the school and had to raise a complaint eventually. Suddenly I was the complete outcast, the group closed up and ostracised myself and DH, despite the complaint not being directed at this teacher.

We lost our friendship group and even wider friends in one fell swoop which hurt so much. I suspect that the teacher (who is so far up her own backside she can kiss her teeth) did her level best to drag our names through the mud even though we had a legitimate complaint to make about the school and how they were treating a number of children who were set to go to a secondary school that wasn’t the choice of the school. Not one of them have actually ever had the guts to speak to me or tell me what I was meant to have done and even 15 years later it hurts when I see them and they blank me.

I’d love to ask them what their problem is after all this time, it was a hurtful, childish and ‘mean girl’ thing to do. I’d have preferred it if one of them had the guts to actually tell me at the time that I’d done something to upset someone. All I can think of is the school complaint. I can absolutely guarantee that if there was an issue with the schooling of one of their children they would have done exactly the same thing.

YABU, time to get over it.

This. Move on.

It's nothing to do with reading comprehension. I comprehend very clearly that whether your post is AI or not, it is not a "counterfactual" or any other name you choose to give it. It is just made up.

You're not "giving us the other side of the story" because you don't know it. You're not reminding people that another side exists, because there always is - and by definition, we can never know it. So one thing you ARE right about is that it doesn't matter whether you use AI or write it yourself - none of it is relevant, because it's entirely your invention.

BTW, all counterfactuals are "just made up". The clue's in the name.

You are responding to two of us as if we're a single poster. Two people expressing things differently is not "moving the goalposts".

But it isn't "two people expressing things equivalently".

It's Daisywhatsyouranswer attempting to use "you posted from ChatGPT" as proof that I did "in fact" post "as if it were fact", which is moving the goalposts.

moderate · 03/09/2026 13:34

Since several people are now arguing with the same straw man, I'll just post this without quoting each individually.

The point I am making is the same point as I would have been making if I had written it by hand instead of using ChatGPT.

I have not claimed the output of ChatGPT to be true in any sense whatsoever.

Please refer to the above before posting any more straw man arguments. Thanks.

?

"Apparently we bought a caravan and then several friends bought caravans.

Yes."

I'm not wrong that it's in there, so are you saying you would have written it yourself in strange stilted language finishing with the classic 3-part "profound" ending that ChatGPT is so fond of?

"There isn’t a problem.

There’s just a friendship that ended a very long time ago.

And if I’m completely truthful, the idea that I’ve spent fifteen years controlling several grown women, arranging their holidays, influencing their purchases and instructing them whom they’re allowed to speak to is rather more flattering to my organisational abilities than reality deserves."

Why are you still arguing with me about what I would have written?

Are you genuinely so arrogant that you think you have better access to my mind than I do, or are you just digging yourself further into a hole for the sake of it?

No, I didn't. Your lack of reading comprehension is your own problem. Most people don't have a weird bee in their bonnet and therefore got the point. And as I've already pointed out, I would have written the same counterfactual without AI.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is really tired of some posters using ChatGPT, posting the (usually pointless) proudly and then defending them to the death.

Happening more and more and it is unbelievably tedious.

It’s ludicrous isn’t it. Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for ai, I use it for example if planning a night out in London, I will say list the hotels close to Piccadilly and lucky cat in Mayfair, where is the best place for cocktails etc

but getting it to summarise the other side for a thread on a chat forum then posting it to help posters, is just too mindboggling for words.

It really is. We don't want it. I'll continue to say so to whatever drivel the poster spouts to back it up. Hopefully they'll either stop it or fuck off somewhere else.

This particular poster has been doing it for months on different threads which I suspect is the reason for the defensiveness. I'm hiding this now so I don't have to see it!

You did in fact post a lengthy post from chat GPT, for reasons you clearly will defend to the death and it was in fact drivel. I think all understand you are imprressed with it and don’t feel it is, but that doesn’t mean it is not.

i think maybe instead of fighting about how wonderful you feel ai is and how much you feel posters need you and chat gpts support to respond on a chat forum, it maybe better to accept that posters do not feel they need this.

They really don’t. Please give posters more credit, they understand their is two sides and they are able to look at it from two sides, without needing chat gpt to help them,

what on earth has it come to, where someone thinks a chat forum needs chat gpt to see both sides, very few are thay stupid.

Again, you keep making this about ChatGPT, whereas the point I was making does not rely on it having been written by ChatGPT.

The men weren’t terribly close I suppose, they still chat and talk when they see one another now, husband included. It was the women element here that had it in for me. It was a strange dynamic anyway as I wasn’t originally from the area so when I met my husband I was already an outsider. I was included but it seemed as soon as they had an excuse to blank me they did.
Its definitely small village mentality, they enmeshed themselves into each others lives to a ridiculous extent, holidaying together, doing everything together. I would never had wanted that as we prefer to do our own thing. I just don’t like being blanked, even after all these years.
However, I’ve decided, the next time I see any one of them I will be asking them what their problem is after all these years

Weren’t terribly close but was his best man?!

Lampsandlightsandotherthings · 03/09/2026 08:52

I think you are being silly, the way you are coming across is that you are confidently correct but in reality often multiple versions of the same event exist. Of course if you complain someone else will be offended, it’s a domino effect. I suggest if I may, that you consider the situation as the devils advocate. It doesn’t mean you agree with the advocate, but it might help you make sense of how the circumstances felt for others. Lastly, they were never your friends, friends don’t have to agree with you, or support you everytime, sometimes good friends, just see both sides and chooses you anyway. Clearly they didn’t choose you.
