Having to resist the temptation to throw my phone across the room every time I see Joe Wicks fucking grinning at me on SM pushing his new ‘menopause fitness plan’ with a fucking big grin on his face while he tells women to ‘just tell yourself you can do it!’ when he has no idea what it feels like having even a single period let alone the fucking menopause!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

anyone else??!!

Does anyone have recommendations for a better strength and resistance online trainer instead?

I get where you're coming from and feel a bit irked that he thinks he knows what he's talking about but he's got no experience of what it's actually like.

My workplace started a menopause support group. Drop in for coffee and biscuits and chat to other women about the stuff you're going through. I went a few times and enjoyed it. Mainly just women having a bitch about it!

Then a man started coming. He claimed he wanted to learn about menopause to support his wife. He just sat there and observed and didn't contribute. We felt uncomfortable about him taking notes. It changed the whole dynamic of the group as the women didn't want to talk about personal medical symptoms and other stuff in front of him.

Women stopped going and it then got cancelled due to lack of interest.

Just reading this makes me angry!

I completely understand why women would be irate about mensplaining menopause but Joe Wicks has a degree in Sports Sciences and is properly qualified, so isn't just some random grifter. I really enjoy his exercises and do ten minutes HIIT or Abs every morning and feel better for it (I am mid-50s). I like his accessibility, cheery mode and encouraging tone and that there is no annoying music. He occasionally gets a stitch or cramp and I find this human and relatable.

@rwalker menopause does not need to be trained differently.

Lower estrogen levels can affect bone density and joints also you store more fat
so you would train someone differently to accommodate these

AsIsaidearlier · 01/09/2026 16:21

There are a lot of people out there making a lot of money from menopausal women.

Including all the bastards out there who expect me to do jobs for them pro bono, because apparently I should just jump at the chance to have this interest shown in me by other humans. Just fuck off.

Autumnallaround · 03/09/2026 05:12

rwalker · 03/09/2026 04:25

YABU he’s not on about periods
it’s training geared towards a condition
it’s like in if you train a pregnant woman you don’t need to be pregnant it’s about tailoring the exercise to the needs

there lots of examples
children
people who have had heart attacks
pregnancy
elderly
menopause
mobility issue
obese people

all of the above need to be trained in a different manner

He's a prat, isn't he? I was looking for wheelchair workouts on YouTube and came across one of him with Ade Adepitan. Now, I get that they're both doing the work out together for the viewers, but JW was doing them sitting in a wheelchair too! Just do them in a bloody chair you tit! It's a pity AA was too nice to say that to him! I've no issue with able-bodied people demonstrating seated workouts on YT etc. - I use them regularly myself - but FFS if you don't actually use a wheelchair then just sit in an ordinary chair or seat to do them. Thankfully most people aren't tits like JW and so did exactly this.

That's into the realms of Alan Partridge behaviour.
What a prick!!

I agree with her. The ones without children just really don't understand.

As a child free person, I know when to keep my trap shut.

I think you have nailed it right here. My friend of who's a mother to 7 won't be taking advice from social workers who are kids themselves (her words) or have never had kids of their own .
It's impossible to reason with her, so I just stay quiet 🤐 the fact that she is under social services is irrelevant 😳.

Just like a midwife who hasn't pushed out a baby is probably more qualified to advise you on giving birth than I am, it's not about what you've experienced yourself, it's about training.
If a fitness instructor is properly qualified and has listened/learned carefully, that's what matters.
Even if this was presented by 55 year old Josephine, while she might have gone through it, her experience isn't necessarily like any other woman's. Many women say that they've had better care from male gynaecologists because some women ones think their experience can be universalised and if something wasn't painful for them, you shouldn't have pain.

Ha - I had a midwife who had no children criticise my use of pain relief in labour! I said come back to me after you've had a baby. She was a bit sheepish after she'd actually had a baby herself!

I've been in an education session run by a lady who has been through this life stage and is a specialist, training other professionals and attending conferences to teach across the sector.

She had a rather dim view of his "menopause workouts" right from the starting point of him grabbing a weight.

Firstly it's an audience where technique matters as many women are new to strength work at this stage of life with no prior background in safe technique. Women experienced in weight lifting are unlikely to be the target audience of a Joe Wicks menopause video. The other issue is that menopause shifts the balance of typical injuries and rotator cuff is a very common injury during menopause, and an excellent way to trigger this injury is to walk up to a weight and yoink it up without thinking about alignment. He's marketing workouts to an audience, but isn't specialist on the subtleties of that audience's needs and adjustments.

Joe Wicks has been great at getting people moving, but he does have a habit of jumping on bandwagons and is not necessarily an expert on various niches.

@FannybygaslightinGovan
Your post made me laugh so much 😂

AbacusCat · 02/09/2026 21:38

I got tired of people going on about Joe Wicks in 2020, didn't realise he was still doing the rounds.

I never really see how one 'fitness plan' is different from another, there's only so many kinds of exercise you can do. Surely it's a case of finding exercise you enjoy or can tolerate and sticking with it.

Gtfc · 02/09/2026 21:34

Does he have advice about flooding

That's my most noticeable challenge to exercise during peri

WyrdHag · 02/09/2026 21:28

I'm irritated by Joe Wicks in general so...🤷🏼‍♀️

LuckyHazelFox · 02/09/2026 21:23

ColinOfficeTrolley · 02/09/2026 20:05

I can't bear the misogynistic little prick.

How on earth is he misogynistic! So many people commentating are latching on to the fact he dares to help women lose menopausal weight. Jeez, it's the pitch forks out again.

Switchnow · 02/09/2026 21:17

Joe Wicks is unbearable in the first place. Now he’s telling menopausal women about their bodies with what qualifications or knowledge at all? Insufferable.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 02/09/2026 21:11

Just tell yourself you can do it?

Does he have a cool down section where you get out a mop and bucket, strip off, put the blood soaked gym gear into the washing machine, clean the copious amounts of blood off the floor, your shoes, the path to the washing machine and then repeat five minutes later because you've bled through again. And it'll be like this for about 7 weeks before just bleeding like a nosebleed for 6 days before the bloodbath starts again?

DundeeNewcastle · 02/09/2026 21:11

Annoying yes, but even more annoying, his menopause workouts are really good!

LuckyHazelFox · 02/09/2026 19:29

I don't see how a man who made the most of lockdown blues and inspired kids can be irritating, but each to their own. He's got off his literal arse and built a fitness empire. He doesn't pretend to know everything about menopause but has built programmes around common symptoms. Good for him.

I agree. He grew up in a council flat to a teen mum with mental health challenges and a dad who was in and out of prison on drug offences. The fact that he managed to break that pattern and create a hugely successful business and have what appears to be a successful marriage and family…is quite a feat. Major respect.

I don't think your title needed "me ioause fitness adverts" for me to agree.

But in general I detest men patronising women about getting fit. I had a personal trainer tell me and some other women that there was never an excuse to be out walking in the dark nights because he always did it and he'd always felt safe

🤯
