AIBU to make a roast when my daughter asked me not to?

Adult daughter 22 is not a fan of roast dinners. She asked me if I could not do a roast dinner today and make something else which I agreed to. However I had a chicken in freezer that needed using up today but I did make a pasta bake which is something she likes as an alternative. I like to make a family dinner on a Sunday for us all. Daughter was disappointed about the roast but I explained to her I had to use chicken up but I did make something she liked as alternative. She said to me you told me you wouldn’t make a roast and she looked upset. She didn’t go hungry though as she had Cottage Pie after saying there’s nothing to eat. AIBU to of made the roast even though there was pasta dish as alternative or was she being unreasonable here as I feel bad about it.

I have a 22yo and I would be fucking ashamed of him, and myself as a parent, if he carried on like that.

I have one too.
I'd honestly think they had lost their mind if they reacted like that.
They are lucky to be cooked for.

And people querying what a pasta bake is…

I’ve only had a glass and half of wine but was seriously wondering if my tolerance had gone.

I’m glad there are other people who don’t understand what’s going on here as the random cottage pie made me think hard about finishing this second glass of wine 😆.

My mother makes a roast every week. It’s not my favourite. However, it’s what’s she’s done for the 40 odd years of my existence so if I am being fed I’m grateful. I have also cooked most of my own meals since I was 18, so that’s my other option.

I am BAFFLED by what Op means re freezer dates. Once it’s in the freezer, there is no date?

This is a fine example of MN doing it's thing. We are now ignoring the actual problem and focusing on the chicken date and the freezer.

There’s probably chicken in my freezer from last year - and when we eat it, we will be fine!!

She’s 22 and ‘upset’ because you roasted a chicken!?

And you ‘had to use’a frozen chicken because of the date??
Do you understand the function of a freezer??
Better not ever go to my Auntys house, her freezer is called Chernobyl . There’s stuff in there that pre dates Duran Duran.

Seriously - why did you freeze the chicken?
And tell your daughter to stop being a knob and to make her own dinners.

Was her issue that you said that wasn’t going to and then did? Would she have been ok if you said actually the rest of the family like a roast so I am doing one but happy to make something you like as well?
