Feel obliged to point out that there are indeed dates by which you are supposed to eat frozen foods. Dates differ for types of food.
Unless you are absolutely certain that food will be used before those dates, items should be marked with the date when placed in the freezer.
Chicken is a food that people can tend to treat with a little more caution re dates.
DD was being unreasonable,unless you have a strong history of just ignoring her requests OP and deliberately doing the opposite.

I was also thinking there's more to this than food. She had three options for food - roast, pasta bake, cottage pie - that's plenty for most people to have something they like.

I really think you’re missing the mark with freezers. The exception to the rule is processed pork which does go rancid after long enough.

I have a young adult daughter and when she doesn’t like what’s on offer she makes her own dinner. She doesn’t dictate what everyone else eats and certainly doesn’t get “upset”.

If she doesn't want to eat what you are cooking for the family, she can prepare something for herself.

But you can keep chicken in the freezer for months, it isn't going to degrade for an extra week or two

I used some frozen turkey mince today that was 2 months past its best before date. I've used stuff that's been longer than that.

I predict that what op is leaving out if this story is that she has a ds who loves a roast dinner and that he is the favoured child and that is why dd is having a seemingly petty tantrum about the dinner.

Op appears to be very fixed in her mindset and dismissive of anything she doesn't want to hear as evidence of her ignoring the many questions on this thread trying to clarify what went on.

Hang on. You buy food, stick it in the freezer, but get it out of the freezer before the use by date? Why does it even go in the freezer in the first place in this case? I feel so confused as on the surface this seems madness.

Your DD is unreasonable as if there was an option other than roast, she did not have anything to comment on, let alone complain about. However, if the freezer thing above is correct, I’m getting the vibe of an ‘unusual’ household.

She is more than welcome to make whatever she wants if the meal someone else is cooking isn’t to her liking 🤨

Why couldn’t your daughter cook something different for herself?

Is she disabled, or does she have severe learning difficulties and you’re her carer? As other than that there’s really no excuse for her not to be able to cook her own food.

DM makes a roast, a perfectly acceptable meal but DD isn’t keen and actually wants to dictate what she wants s but also what other family eat.

DM makes an alternative, but DD doesn’t fancy that either! Is still upset that a roast has been made for other family members.

DM then offers another alternative and the DD ears that, whilst remaining upset that a roast has been cooked.

DD needs to get a grip!!

So she didn’t want a roast, you made her an alternative but she still got upset because you and the rest of your family enjoyed a roast? What odd behaviour on her part. Nothing whatsoever for you to feel guilty for. At her age, if she doesn’t like what’s being served for dinner, surely she’s capable of cooking/buying herself something else - and I’d be encouraging her to do just that!
