To regret the colour of my bedroom

You’re making this into a far bigger issue than the OP ever did.
She just wanted some advice around how to style it.

I love green too and I like it. Id go for really deep bottle green curtains

Once you’ve got some wooden / natural beige type curtains and furniture it will look much better

I'm the one who’s hard of thinking? 😂 Babe, I’m not the one who painted my own bedroom a color I chose, paid for and still like, then convened a panel of internet strangers to determine whether I’m allowed to continue liking it because I saw some nicer rooms on Instagram. None of us have to wake up in the damn room so none of us care. If she likes the green, keep the green. If she stops liking the green, repaint it. This is an entirely internal decision she has somehow outsourced to Mumsnet so yes, “what do you think of the color?” is a slightly hilarious question but thank God you arrived to explain the intellectual complexity of it to me.

Green is lovely but I’d go for something a bit more sagey. Just google sage olive green for ideas and re paint it!

I'm confused: are you having a go at her because you think the thread is too trivial for your important attention, or because you somehow imagine she's unaware that she could repaint later?

I’d repaint, OP. I adore green, and our house has a lot of strong colours, including a room and a hallway in different greens (F and B Bancha and an olive from another paint range), but I think that’s unpleasantly minty, and no attempts to mitigate it are going to work.

“Throw £100 down the sink at a whim” is doing quite a lot of work here. She doesn’t even hate the color. She likes green, chose green, and is now wondering whether she might prefer something else because she saw some Instagram pictures. My point was that she can furnish the room, see how she feels, and repaint it later if she actually dislikes it. Nobody suggested she summon a decorator at dawn and ceremonially pour 100+ down the drain. Also if money is genuinely tight enough that repainting is unaffordable, why are we suddenly adding the hypothetical cost of hiring someone to do it? She can paint the room herself???

I love green, my kitchen is arsenic, but your choice is quite strong and bright for a bedroom. I’d keep it, but knock it back with off white, rust (not red) and maybe slightly dirty blue grey accents. Less dentist reception and more 1930’s garden room.

It's very normal to decide you can't afford something. Say she bought two cans of paint, that might be the best part of 100 quid, and if she had someone in to do the work, it's going to be more. Most of us don't have 100 quid to throw down the sink at a whim, do we?

I don't think anyone is catastrophising. It's like those threads where someone asks what you're having for dinner because they're starving and can't decide. They don't literally mean they are in danger of dying for lack of food!

I'd either wallpaper one wall with something patterned, maybe golds but with an art deco design. Or paint one or two walls in white. Green and white looks crisp. I think it's too dark a green to have all of the walls painted that colour.
Best to do it now whilst the room is empty although once the furniture is in it may cover the wall space anyway. Maybe look on one of those websites where you photograph the room and change the colour online? Sorry I don't have a link.
Red curtains doesn't sound a good idea. Sometimes red can look ok with green as an accent colour but curtains would be too much as a block of colour. Gold goes well with green. Look at artists colour wheel pages for good colour combos.

Hindsight is wonderful, but its the tool always hiding at tyd bottom of the bag..a couple of costings of a decent white paint will sort it, then go for a hint of green perhaps

I like green but this would be too much for me I’m afraid. As for adding green accessories I think I’d feel all greened out. It’s nice as an accent colour.

She’s just asked for ideas as to how to make it work, so she doesn’t have to repaint. Standard thing to ask a chat forum. It’s not that deep,

You could have a look at Charlotte Gaisford on Instagram. She's a fabric and wallpaper designer and has lots of photos and videos of her own (rather gorgeous) farmhouse in Northumbria that she's decorated herself. She uses a very similar shade of green in many of her interior schemes so this might provide some colour scheme or decor inspiration.

One thing I've learnt as someone with bold taste is to ignore everyone else's opinions. Is their home decorated to your taste? Probably not, I bet it's grey and beige, and navy is too wild for them.

Your shade of green is a great art deco/nouveau 1910-1930 colour - get your ideas there.

I know she says she’d rather not repaint due “cost,” I’m just struggling to understand why we’re treating a couple of cans of paint like a major financial event. 😭 Once again, if she really ends up hating it then she can repaint it and if she decides still likes the green, furnish it and stop catastrophizing ... it's just paint, nothing serious.

I love it and our guest room (currently our room) is a similar colour. We're still mid decorating but have a light pink velvet bed and headboard and are going for lots of natural wood and tones in the rest of the room, so wicker type shade on the main light, light beige/cream carpet that was there when we moved in and natural tone blind. Add some colourful paintings coherent with the colour scheme and I wouldn't have green as the main colour on anything else in the room.

Definitely needs some accent colour there to break it up and agree that white/cream are not the answer. More than one accent can also work. I'd be looking at a dark navy and/or pale pink along with either dark or oak furniture. Or perhaps a mustard/rust pairing. It really depends a lot on the exact shade. If you can find a duvet or curtains which contain the accent colours in a pattern you like then the rest can work around it.
