AIBU to think drunken behaviour is ruining outdoor gigs?

God I’m glad I only go to metal gigs and festivals. You don’t get any of this kind of behaviour at Bloodstock or Desertfest, people are lovely.

Surely everyone who goes to Pulp concert in the middle of a field knows the correct etiquette is "Es and wizz" not beers.

It happens at indoor concerts and shows too. We went to the Whitney Houston Bodyguard show last year and the audience were awful. They were talking, going to get drinks, waving at friends etc... As a primary school teacher I said to my friend who is a Nursery Nurse that we have no chance asking young children to sit still and be quiet when their parents can't.

It's middle aged people who ruin it these days. They can't take the drugs and drink they used to any more and have no off switch.

I was there last night and it wasn’t muddy, I’m glad I wore boots not trainers but it wasn’t bad underfoot at all.

there will always be pissed up people behaving badly at gigs in parks, especially theses sorts of bands that mostly old people like.

many of them won't be bothered about the act and are just going for the social and £100 isn't much for a lot of folk in 2026.

in any event Jarvis is most famous for getting pissed up and disturbing other people's performances, the King of Pop no less, so really they are just following his lead and you should accept it.

It’s awful. I’m this close to stopping going to live events full stop. It’s not just that people areannoying - thats bad enough. It’s the threat of violence if you say something.Earlier this year we had to leave a an indoor event cos I just knew it was going to kick off - and it did. Races are like this too now.

And yes, crap happens at indoor gigs too.

When DM and I saw Take That a couple of years ago there was a couple a few rows ahead of us sat vaping throughout.

Disgusting sickly sweet fruity smoke blowing back in our face. Luckily quite a few people around them complained to the stewards and they actually moved but it was well over an hour we had to put up with it.

We should just stop serving alcohol to the women at gigs and serve only the men.

I was there last weekend for The Cure and Lewis Capaldi. We saw no trouble at all. Both nights everyone was having a ball, certainly where I was standing anyway.

But there was about 35000 people there each night. By the law of averages, a large chunk of them will be arseholes. I think I was lucky not to be surrounded by any of them, whereas you obviously were. It's a shame but I don't think you can blame outdoor gigs. Possibly if you had been stood just a short distance away your experience may have been very different.

Pulp were superb, however it was near on impossible to enjoy the music due to the majority of the crowd being hammered and giving not one shit of consideration to people around them who actually wanted to focus on the performance.

People staggering around with 4 cans each, the constant smell of weed, idiots banging into me, I ended up in three different spots trying to get away from it but everywhere seemed to be the same.

This isn’t a case of people having a good time and me being a misery, they were there to get hammered and not pay attention to the gig, and in doing so spoiled everyone else’s enjoyment.

We had no drunk people but instead (and given that we were nearly near the front), one of those annoying gig men who stand ridgidly still with a smack arse face if anyone dancing (literally everyone around them) so much as brushes him. Bugger off to the back mate.
It was such an amazing gig and thought Self Esteem was absolutely brilliant too.

It seems to be a thing now just to want to 'be there' so you can put it on your socials or brag. Same on holidays, people only interested in having their photo taken but not really taking any notice of anything.

When we went into the Mezquita in Cordoba you barely got inside before hitting a wall of people looking at it through their phones.

I thought the whole point of 'Sorted for Es and Wizz' was about how dreadful the drug comedown was and how people behaved pretty badly on drugs at festivals? It always struck me that Jarvis's lyrics often took an arch swipe at people doing things mindlessly because everyone else appeared to be doing them.

Saying it was 'the culture' suggests everyone in Britain in the 90s was getting very messy and acting like twits all the time, which of course wasn't the case

Years ago at an outdoor gig (Bon Jovi, Sunderland), two pissed up women in front of me were flailing around and kept stepping backwards and knocking into me, hard. I ended up having to stand with my arms crossed, police officer style, braced up just to keep my balance.

One of the women noticed how I was stood, then had the temerity to scream 'WHY IS SHE STOOD LIKE THAT, FUCKINELL, STUPID BORING COW' ! 🙄

Definitely this. It annoys me that there are people that don't seem interested at all in the gig and there will be people that couldn't get tickets for it that really wanted to go.
