To cringe when people call their husband/partner ‘my king’?

There seems to have been a trend going for quite a while now where people post on social media calling their husband/partner ‘my king’ likewise men calling their partners ‘my queen’.

I think it’s so cringe. Especially when it’s someone they’ve only been with 5 minutes.

Edited to add it’s usually done as a performative caption under a photo or video.

I call my dog my king. And I also sing "your love is king" to him, which may be slightly weird.

I hate the king/queen thing but I love when old men refer to their wives as their bride. It always makes me feel warm and fuzzy that they still think of her that way.

My DH calls me princess, or refers to me as his queen - it doesn’t offend me and I don’t care what anyone else thinks tbh.

"My king" and "my queen" go way back (long before SM or professional influencing) in some African American communities. I wouldn't say it's very common but not unusual. It doesn't feel as cringey as what you describe, more folksy and relational, like older English (?) people calling their spouse "himself" or "herself". It's less of a 'bling bling I'll worship and spoil him/her' or 'this person is superior to other women/men' attitude and more a kind of quiet acknowledgement that that person is important to them/the centre of their world.

Spouses have been referring to each other and king and queen in the Black community for a very long time. It seems it’s becoming one of those things that might get adopted elsewhere through social media, lose its significance or appeal/ get watered down/seen as a joke etc etc.

I say it sometimes to my DH as a joke but he calls me Chairman Meow (my name is cat so it makes sense) when I’m being bossy. If he’s being a bit of a dick I’ll say something like “yes my liege of course” and tbh I think it’s a good way to indicate he’s pissing me off without saying “oi wind your fucking neck in bruv” in front of the kids.

Love this. My cat is Chairman Meow.

Anyway, I sometimes call my DH 'God', but only as a snark, like, he'll turn off the telly and start heading to bed, and I'll say 'Oh, I see God is going to bed...'

Didn't 'Duchess' use to be a term of endearment? As in 'my dear old Duch'...

(And wasn't it Diana Spencer's childhood nickname because of her 'regal ways'?)

Used to call my kitty The Duchess, but all black female cats are absolute duchesses... 👑🐈‍⬛

New one on me. Never heard anyone referring to their partner as ‘ My King’. Sounds soppy as hell though 🤣
