Amazon restricted my account and will not refund gift card balance of £200. Totally blindsided. Any advice??

My account has been restricted by Amazon. Because I violated their returns and refunds policy. I'm gobsmacked (sorry to those who hate that word).

I am only allowed to make digital purchases.

Have been with Amazon for over 20 years and there's never been any issues with my account.

Of late, yes, I have returned several items, for various reasons (faulty, etc) and several packages have gone missing as, despite my explicit instructions on my account, the Amazon delivery people continued to leave my parcels in an unsafe place. Mainly, the public entrance foyer of my block of flats. They are still doing this with parcels for other residents.

I have a gift card balance on the account of over £200 and I have been told that they will not be refunding this money to me. WTF?

This is made worse by the fact that I recently placed an order and applied the gift cards to that order, and it certainly looked as if the purchase had gone through, with the gift cards as payment. However, when I received my credit card statement, the payment had been taken from my credit card. So, I am now £170 out of pocket and have have a huge gift card balance that I can't use.

Please, can anyone offer any advice here? Is there ANYONE that I can appeal to at Amazon? Is it even legal for them to keep my money like this??

Thank you in advance. I'm totally blindsided by this.I cannot emphasise strongly enough that I am not a dodgy customer. There has never been ANY issues with my account up till now.

Without accusing you I get parcels about once a week and had 1 thing I about 3 years that hasn’t arrived. So I assume issues with couriers but Amazon are assuming you are the issue.

In fairness I had a period where at least 50% of my parcels were delivered to the wrong place (I never found out where) despite multiple calls, emails, other Amazon drivers moving the ‘circle’ to tell Amazon where I actually live etc. This went on for at least 6 months and still happens occasionally 2 years on. New build estate and Amazon kept putting the ‘circle’ (the delivery location) in the wrong place. It absolutely blew my mind the level of incompetence, especially as some parcels were delivered.

The drivers were going to the circle area and not checking that it matched the actual address, then picking a random house within that area to dump my parcel. It was crazy!

Royal Mail, Evri etc never had an issue with my address, it was very specifically Amazon

I had a very bad experience with an Amazon delivery just this week. I stayed near door for several hours so I could answer the delivery asap. When he rang the bell I took less than a minute to answer on the intercom of my flat - I had to buzz him into building - but he had gone before I got there -then had message that delivery attempted but I was out!. I phoned Amazon a told them I was not out and he had not waited to be let in. They took my phone number and gave it to the man. He then phoned me - shouting at me - saying he had waited 5 minutes. Not true!. He then came back and was very rude on the intercom/entrance phone - but I let him in building. It was alcohol - which I was supposed to sign for - but he just left it on ground floor. We do have lift.

Did you mean to type that you took less than a minute to answer the door/ intercom? I really don’t think you can expect a delivery driver to wait for a minute for an answer!

It shocks and sickens me that people get deliveries 5/7 days a week!! What the hell are you buying?!

Why not at least choose the option to have one fixed delivery day and save on packing and the environmental impact of such frequent deliveries

Honestly I despair

Why sickened? Not everyone lives in a town where they can pop to a shop on foot.

If I need things for my family and pets that can't wait a week, and the alternative is driving a 30 mile round trip to the nearest town, why would I not get them delivered on the offered delivery option that I pay a subscription for?

The van is coming to my rural road every day anyway, so surely it is better for the environment to use the service than adding another vehicle to the roads?

I tried Amazon Day delivery, although usually select No-Rush delivery. They generally come the next day anyway 🤷‍♀️.

Sounds stressful.

You could just stop ordering from Amazon? Do other delivery companies do better?

Is it possible to collect parcels from the Post Office?

Mapletree1985 · 29/08/2026 06:12

I imagine the decision was made by an AI. It's hard to argue with an AI unless you find the right trigger words.

Couldn't you just resign yourself to life without Amazon?I haven't used it for 15 years. There are better options out there.

caringcarer · 29/08/2026 06:02

If I had 1 item gone missing I'd have switched to a locker. How come you didn't switch to a locker sooner as clearly the entrance to a block of flats isn't safe?

What are the things you can’t get elsewhere?

I’m intrigued too, I can find everything elsewhere & sometimes it’s cheaper

mypoorgrass · 29/08/2026 05:49

It’s so MNs that you get responses like “my parcels never go missing”, etc 🙄

Thecatspantaloons · 28/08/2026 23:59

One million percent.

I hate having to use this retched company for things that I absolutely can't get elsewhere. And before anyone comes for me, I'm living in near poverty, hence my next rant. I live in a crime ridden, social housing hellscape and I am adamant the delivery folk not leave my parcels outside in full view of my neighbours meth/crackhead customers.

@5foot5 - that's exactly what happens here. This block has 12 floors, 4 flats on each floor, and there's a constant stream of people coming and going.

Occasionally the drivers have taken pictures of the parcel in the foyer and even though I explain to Amazon that it's NOWHERE NEAR my front door, they don't seem to care. I even once took a video of the entrance area just to show them that where the parcel was dumped was a busy public area, but it seems it just doesn't matter that it isn't taken to the actual address.

Sounds stressful.

Can you use your gift card balance for those?

’faulty, etc’. Whats the etc?

bestchooseanother · 29/08/2026 00:32

Had loads of mine go missing, despite very many calls to tell them not to leave them. And notes in every order saying not to leave them. And the fact that my doorstep was on a popular wooded footpath slightly set back from the main road, which you'd think any sane person would see was not a great place to leave them. But still they left them. Sometimes. Often they didn't even manage that - they would be left over the road, or at another house which shared my carpark. Once it was left with the chicken shop about 150m away. Which I discovered as I was on the phone to the customer service, who asked me to go get it. I've also had more than one fun treasure hunt whilst on the phone to customer service, as they can see exactly where it's been left, so they directed me out into my carpark to go look for it. Of course, any half decent company would see that it hasn't been delivered to my doorstep, and so it should be replaced. Not send me out to the carpark at 9.30 at night in the rain to go retrieve it. But hey, that's Amazon.

And when even after all that, they put me on notice and refused to refund things they themselves acknowledged had not been delivered, I gave up. I've ordered almost nothing in months, and I really don't miss them. Many places are cheaper, most all places have better service, and every single place I could conceivably buy from will be morally superior. So now I sleep very smugly - and have not had any hunt the parcel adventures since. Oddly, everyone else seems perfectly capable of actually delivering a package...

If they don't refund your money, sue them. Then - most importantly - shop elsewhere.

I may or may not work for Amazon CS. 👀

You have triggered a concession abuse limit, either by the number of delivered not received or the value of the items.

You will need to submit an appeal. If this hasn't been offered to you, then you will need to reach out to CS if you can log in and speak to an agent, they will transfer you to the right people to start the process.

If you are going around in circles, email one of the managing director emails it will go to a specialist team who will investigate and can resolve the GC issue.

This happens a million times a day with amazon, there is a process you just have to follow it.

FYI people adding GCs to account, ordering, reporting item not received and getting a GC refund is maybe the 3rd most common scam with Amazon and something we are always on the lookout for.

Popping usual disclaimer on here: Thats all I can share , I cant look up accounts etc will lose job so no PMs please.

@MustTryHarderAndHarder - the one that the courier said was 'in a secure location' was £9.99. It was gardening charcoal.

@Holeymoley28 - Good god. I can see what you're saying but, Jesus. I'm a scammer. Well. It'd be funny if it wasn't actually happening.

I guess they have to be on the alert for scammers these days, and people taking the piss, but I never imagined I'd be tagged as one of those people.

Just checked and I've been ordering since 2004. Think I was a member before that too.

I think what might have pushed this was the fact of the missing parcels. There were several over the past two years, which is exactly why I started using the lockers or having things delivered to a pick up point.

I made the mistake of ordering something two weeks ago and didn't change the delivery details to lockers or pick up, so it came to my home address. It didn't arrive and the tracking details said "delivered to a safe location" but with no details about where this location was. Amazon couldn't help and neither could the seller. The Amazon person I spoke to filed an A-Z claim without my explicitly asking for a refund and the next thing....my account is restricted.

How much was the last item?

Viviennemary · 28/08/2026 21:16

It's wrong they've taken your money. But not surprised they've ditched you as a customer. With returned goods and missing parcels. Can you claim it back from your credit card issuer.

@Balloonhearts - yes, that's exactly it.

They left a number of parcels in a ridiculously public place, so, in the instructions on my account about where to leave/not leave parcels, I was SO CLEAR about not leaving in the public foyer. It happened again so I shifted to lockers and collection points.

This was literally the entrance to the block. The place where all tenants visitors, workmen, staff, etc, enter and head to the lifts. There is even a notice on the place where they leave parcels from the management saying "do not leave parcels here". And yet it continues. They don't even bother to ring the intercom.

So the first I know about a parcel is when I check my account to see where it is and I see that it says "delivered". I then have to hare down to the first floor, desperately hoping it's there and not been stolen.

The absolute best one was two weeks ago when I found a parcel actually outside the main gate, and it fell in as I opened the gate! I took it the relevant flat, but seriously, it was literally outside in full view of everyone passing.

DD ordered something recently and got a message to say it had been delivered. She lives in flats where there are 8 flats to each entrance. The courier hadn't rung the bell or put it inside, just propped it up outside the door to the block. When she looked it wasn't outside the door. Then a closer look at the photo showed it wasn't even the right door. They had left it outside someone else's entrance. By the time she figured out which door they had left it by it had gone. Useless.
