[I categorically refuse to put the word ‘lighthearted’ in the title to indicate that Im not actually traumatised. Also because saying this post is lighthearted is just as facile as holding a little bus or building a Lego haus to illustrate my point.
See below.]

I realise that I don’t need to follow Mr B on instagram but I do and I’m feeling deeply patronised:

First a little toy bus (talking about buses innit), then a Lego house (building more Lego houses to amuse the homeless), a bit of cosplay by dressing up as a Sainsbury’s man of the people (to show that you can work at Sainsbury's and a sexy uniform is thrown in) and now… throwing a cowboy hat at the camera/phone to illustrate that cowboy builders are …cowboys.

Make it stop.

How much does all his social media cost?

How much did he spend as Gt Manchester mayor?

Andy has important issues to deal with such as Islamophobia, transphobia, Gaza and climate change. You can't expect him to actually deal with anything here in the UK can you?

I’m sure he could get the busses in Gaza up and running.

Well to be honest I disagree I think his TikTok/Social media figures may show viewing figures but that does not mean they are being viewed favourably. To be perfectly honest I am not interested in how many hits he gets. I am only interested in how he will get economic growth, unemployment down especially Neets, increase in defence spending, tax, cost of living. Maybe we just have different ideas of what the PM should be actually doing. Throwing a cowboy hat on a video is definitely not something I would endear to.

But we don’t need to agree to disagree on whether the content is being viewed favourably or not because there’s objective evidence that it is. The article I’ve linked to from LBC doesn’t just show viewing figures, it shows extensive analysis of how people engage with Andy Burnham’s content - including the ratio of positive to negative comments etc etc. At the moment, that analysis shows that right now compared to other high profile political leaders (including Keir Starmer, Nigel Farage, Kemi Bandenboch, and Zack Polanski - so this isn’t party political) Andy Burnham’s content is being viewed exceptionally favourably.

I also absolutely agree that what matters is that the Prime Minister drives economic growth, gets unemployment down - especially for NEETs and tackles the cost of living.

I guess where we may disagree is whether a Prime Minister spending ten minutes a day recording content (which is what it takes, before his team package the content for social media) is a good use of his time. I guess I think it is, if it’s effectively communicating to a mass audience, and getting people engaged and on board, because a Prime Minister needs that kind of popular buy in in order to get things done.

Today's revelation is that AB's Secretary of State for Energy sends her three children to fee-paying schools! Do as we say rather than do as we do!

So she's not supposed to do the best for her kids to appease a bunch of strangers? Most people would use fee paying schools if they could afford it and, as a teacher in a school with no money, high sen and poor parenting and behaviour to deal with, I wouldn't blame them.

Doozycan · 29/08/2026 16:34

If you know anything about the Labour-Fabians its all wolf in sheeps clothing. I couldnt careless and cannot even look at AB (and never have). He's a strawman you ll all think this is funny wait until your under the control of their systemic agenda. Thats the problem with this country no-one sees the hidden plans this government aka AB are initiating. @WallowingInMud

Think we will have to agree to disagree, personally think these social media posts are just a distraction, no point in getting people engaged and on board if you are not delivering. Most business owners are not looking at his social media to get engaged and on board. You don’t get things done by being popular either.

I think you’re right, we will have to agree to disagree. But just to be clear, I don’t disagree with you at all that actually delivering is by far the most important thing. Where we disagree, is I think a Prime Minister can take ten minutes out of his - presumably long -working day, in order to communicate his vision to a massive audience. And I also think engaging 18-35s in politics is incredibly important for our democracy. To me, the reach he’s getting with that age group in itself makes his TikTok output a worthwhile thing. But I don’t disagree that he needs to find other ways to communicate with other audiences as well - I just think he has plenty of time to do that.

Glad I didn't notice any of this.

He's treating us like kids. He's all mouth and trousers. No action. No keeping promises. Certainly don't want Starmer back, but AB is not much better.

Can't vote Labour now, they've lost the plot.

WallowingInMud · 29/08/2026 19:08

So - his latest insta post is a collab between him and a victim of revenge porn ‘influencer’. Not a toy bus, costume or little LEGO world artefact in sight.

This, I like.

Not the violence against women obvs but the using his influence to put a spotlight on it.

Thats MY PM. He has shiny eyes.

Well I can’t say I want the Tories back . After all their policy was not to raise taxes so instead cut back on education prison service the police legal system NHS defence ……well everything actually-

If we want a decent country then we are going to have to pay more in taxes.

We have lived above our means since Thatcher. We don’t have the production capacity to support our standard of living. A tough truth but we have to get used to it

More in taxes hasn’t worked so far. It’s just impacted jobs, especially for young people.

You think 14 years of Neofascist rule can be undone in a couple of months? Andy might be many things but he's no miracle worker. The country is in shambles and Labour have an almighty task ahead of them. He needs a minimum of 10 years before anyone should even consider questioning him. That's what it will take to even undo a fraction of what the previous stewards of the country have put us through. Have some bleedin' faith for crying out loud.

😂

Pity he didn’t help the young grooming gang girls in Rochdale, Oldham etc. Maybe check out Maggie Oliver and her response. Actually that video really angered me, using his influence to put a spotlight on it? Disgraceful!

No he didn’t try hard enough. It is not all we can do at the end of the day? As society we should be protecting all women and girls from any rape, sexual, behaviour and violence regardless of who is committing the crime. None should acceptable.

Thought that might happen.

Not aiming that at you in particular. But how long before the Great British Public and the idiot crowd they elected in Westminster tire of this particular PM and start whining they want another one.

When the media big wigs have lost faith I’d imagine! Let’s face it’s most of the hate is driven by newspapers and media outlets and the people that own these companies and drive the headlines in any shape they wish for their own advantage!

You have to get the balance right. To raise enough money they have to tax a lot of people which means lots of people have less money to spend. Then businesses go out of business and then less people can pay tax. You also get working people who are paying tax having less money than people on benefits which causes resentment. I think we have already reached the tipping point when it comes to tax.

Sorry disagree, most men are fantastic. The small minority who are guilty of any type of abuse should be dealt with very severely. Instagram is not your answer😀

Absolutely @Beepen . We have a bus service on Wednesdays (yes, just on Wednesdays) and it is one way.....

Did you choose to live there, knowing there was one bis per week? If there was a n3ed for a more frequent bis service, I'm sure it would be in place.

In my village, we had a decent bus service when we moved here, along with a library, both of which were scrapped in the noughties. We bought our house in the 90s. Both due to cost cutting rather than lack of use.

Thanks for sharing that article @Visiblyabove25

I completely understand that Andy is reaching a new audience and communicating his policies better than before. I commend that. So many people in so many walks of life that should require these skills are absolutely useless at effective communication. There’s a lot to be pleased about.

However I‘m very sad to learn that this simplistic content is playing so well to the politically disenfranchised youth of our country. It fills me with sadness. They deserve better.

I will watch with interest to see how Andy tackles serious issues in a jocular, entertaining and upbeat manner. He’s not going to be able to use Rusholme Ruffians, noble tune that it is, as the soundtrack for everything after all.

Edited

I totally take your point about how Andy Burnham won’t be able to tackle every issue in the same jocular, upbeat manner. But I don’t think Andy Burnham is a Boris Johnson type - I don’t think he is using the jokey persona as a shield, and I don’t think it is his only rhetoric skill. If you watch his speeches on Hillsborough or look back at the dignity and compassion with which he led Manchester in the wake of the arena bombings, then I think it’s easy to be optimistic about the kind of statesman like leadership he’ll be capable of when it’s needed.
