[I categorically refuse to put the word ‘lighthearted’ in the title to indicate that Im not actually traumatised. Also because saying this post is lighthearted is just as facile as holding a little bus or building a Lego haus to illustrate my point.
See below.]

I realise that I don’t need to follow Mr B on instagram but I do and I’m feeling deeply patronised:

First a little toy bus (talking about buses innit), then a Lego house (building more Lego houses to amuse the homeless), a bit of cosplay by dressing up as a Sainsbury’s man of the people (to show that you can work at Sainsbury's and a sexy uniform is thrown in) and now… throwing a cowboy hat at the camera/phone to illustrate that cowboy builders are …cowboys.

Make it stop.

We certainly have our own issues government-wise in Denmark, but four PMs since 2022 must feel like a lot.

AuntieBiotics · 28/08/2026 14:30

Very much doubt he does his own social media.

Beepen · 28/08/2026 14:29

musicandmen · 28/08/2026 14:26

He’s trying to be funny, more open, more honest. More “influencer” the people wanted someone not stuffy and posh and now we have this. I love Andy burnham for previous things he’s done when he was MP and the way he helped the Hillsborough victims families

hes probably gone to far with his cheesy funny posts but it’s that better or worse than Starmer standing being his podium being overly formal?

I'm not so fussed by the insta antics - clearly there are people who need this from their politicians

But the things he have implemented so far suggest someone who is yet to wake up to how fed up people are across vast swathes of the country after years of soaring house prices and below inflation pay rises (in the public sector at least). The suggestion those of us in the SE are prosperous and can carry more taxation feels a million miles from reality

WallowingInMud · 28/08/2026 14:29

I mean the intent is good. Labour was doing good stuff under Keir but was deplorable at communicating it. Andy is focusing on the communicating part (not sure yet what he has actually done) as he needs us Instagram crowd on side. We’re the influencers in society don’t you know…

But it’s just so bloody derivative. And it is getting worse. I feel like some junior spad has gone out and bought a load of toys which they are now shoehorning into this bargain basement comms.

If she committed to wearing a hard hat and hi vis at all times then she deserves a tax break.

She does like to pose whilst wearing a hard hat!

I’m wondering what ‘little thing’ to make my life better is next..

Maybe a mini Ken in hard hat head to toe hi vis to illustrate beneficial tax arrangements for toys who wear hi vis…

Lego do a small Woody figure from Toy Story - complete with cowboy hat!

ETA I'm not sure using Lego is necessarily the right thing to do - The Iranians have made some fantastic Lego videos.

Judicioususeofthewordgirdle · 28/08/2026 14:26

Ah I understand now. I actually don’t mind the videos too much, he’s a miles better communicator than his predecessor. That said, I think they have a shelf life and the novelty has now worn off.

The man has no clue how to run a country. But then no one in the labour party does so nothing new there

Today's revelation is that AB's Secretary of State for Energy sends her three children to fee-paying schools! Do as we say rather than do as we do!

Now what little prop could illustrate a posh school?

Maybe a straw boater which Andy could jump up and down on.

He is a bumping weight prick.
He was a bumping weight prick when he was mayor.
He will be a bumping weight prick for all his time as PM.

We are ruled by a bumping weight prick.

Other bumping weight pricks like him.

People with four or more brain cells don't.

SoThatwasSummer · 28/08/2026 14:20

@Badbadbunny agree on the vape shops etc landlords cant have shops sat empty for ages with standing charges and water rates to keep paying.

For some reason I initially read that as a mini Kemi.

By the way I’m totally with you on the bus thing but I already moaned about that on a previous thread.

I would also like him to acknowledge that

  • free bus fares mean fuck all if there aren't any buses to catch - our local service is so slight it might as well be non existent
  • most of us are so busy scraping by (even on the kind of incomes he dreams of taxing more) that we can't even imagine having the money to pay for building work

Yup, our village lost it's bus service in around 2005! Now the only service is along the nearby by-pass. That's not a small hamlet, it's a large village with over 5k inhabitants, more of a small town. No bus route at all through the village centre. Even the by pass route is poor as it stops at 7pm and is only every couple of hours at weekends. Kids have their own special school buses to get to/from school, but nothing equivalent for workers/OAPs etc.

I also think Burnham is completely on the wrong track re money laundering shops, with his comments about getting rid of them so "normal" shops can return to the High Street! Deluded! The "Normal" shops aren't there because of high rents, high rates, high overheads, lack of demand, high employment costs, etc., not because they can't find a vacant shop. It's the absence of "normal" shops that has allowed all the money laundering places to take over otherwise empty shops. The money laundering barbers, nail bars, ethnic shops, vape shops etc took over empty shops - they didn't "push out" viable normal shops!

Andy may well be the next Marie Antoinette with him seemingly missing the point and coming up with "solutions" that don't hit the spot at all. Let them eat cake!

Absolutely @Beepen . We have a bus service on Wednesdays (yes, just on Wednesdays) and it is one way.....

There must be a huge pile of buses at the other end 🤣

We are similar here. Buses run from 12pm to 1pm with an hour off for lunch.

Had almost the same in outer London. It was two days, one bus an hour between 10.20 and 1.15. When the drivers could be bothered to drive up the massive hill to get the people at the stops they were supposed to be serving.
