AIBU sleeping arrangement

I’m visiting my parents this weekend, as are my 2 sisters (we’re all adults 23,29 and 32). I’m bringing my husband, sisters are going alone. I’m currently 19 weeks pregnant with twins, this is relevant.
all the bedrooms have a single bed in them, prior to pregnancy id just share with my husband and we’d have a bad nights sleep but get over it. Now im pregnant sleeping is a bit more uncomfortable and I need a pillow under my belly etc. so someone has to sleep on the sofa. I can’t make hubby sleep on the sofa because the living room is the walk way through to the kitchen so he’d have no privacy. So the options are for pregnant me or my sisters to go on the sofa. I’ve asked both my sisters if they’d give their bed up for me, they’ve both said no. My one sister even had a tantrum over it and said she just won’t visit if I’m going to take “her” bed (bear in mind she hasn’t lived at my parents house for 7 years).
I’m feeling a little disappointed in my sisters and that they wouldn’t let their pregnant sister have a bed for a weekend. My parents have offered their bed to my husband and I as a result but it doesn’t seem fair as they are both older and need the bed too.
Am I being unreasonable expecting someone to give up a bed for me? I would never ask at any other time in my life, it’s just one weekend during my pregnancy.

I read it as being the sister's wedding?

I mean, either way

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 28/08/2026 18:08

I couldn't be arsed with all the hassle.
Just go a different time?
Your sisters dont sound that nice anyway, focus on your little family.

strawberrylemons · 28/08/2026 12:28

theres an element of it that’s about the bed but I’m very aware that I have an issue with one sister in particular who I find to be quite selfish but perhaps she views me in the same way, given how many people have told me I’m being selfish, I hadn’t thought of it that way!
I think because I know I’d give up my bed for my sisters (and have slept on the floor/sofa on a few family holidays when there haven’t been enough beds) I have become frustrated that at the one time I need a bed she won’t help me out.
i see a lot of people on here think my sisters would be giving up the bed for my husband but my parents wouldn’t have him sleep in the living room, so whatever happens he will always get my old room.
So it really is someone giving me the bed not him. But yeah it’s definitely an issue I have with my sister

You don’t need a bed, you have one! It’s your DH that needs it, stop framing it as you’re being refused a bed!

ThatCyanCat · 28/08/2026 17:51

If everyone including him is happy for him to take the sofa then I don't see what the issue is. You don't think it's appropriate but neither he nor the hosts mind so it's fine.

But if that's not possible, and a tent's not possible, and a hotel's not possible... then I guess you'll need to stay home.

OP's parents are not happy for him to sleep on the sofa, and I don't think anyone has actually asked DH what he thinks.

JaninefromEastenders · 28/08/2026 18:01

strawberrylemons · 28/08/2026 15:23

Yes exactly that, as I’ve already said, I was annoyed, I ranted, then I got over it pretty quickly, now I’m just here enjoying the drama…

Mmm. You started this thread, and you said it was impossible for your husband to sleep for a few nights on a sofa bed in a house owned by his inlaws who he must know quite well, and that there is no solution except for your sister to give up her room and she's being mean not to. And now you are saying that other posters are being silly to get so invested in it when you're absolutely fine. This is getting a bit convoluted.

nomas · 28/08/2026 17:59

strawberrylemons · 28/08/2026 15:39

Thanks! I was actually talking to my mum about this and she wants to get some camping beds. The house was a great set up for 3 sisters growing up but not ideal for adults coming to visit 😂

I think once babies are here we won’t be staying there, one of those things we’ll figure out I guess

I don’t understand how the rooms fit camping beds but not a single inflatable mattress.

Mylovleymug · 28/08/2026 17:57

Bring a blow up mattress for the husband.

Burnhamsmascara · 28/08/2026 17:56

Just get a small airbed - the sort that you use for camping. There are ones that are 70 cms wide. you can't tell me that the room is less than that - especially if the original room was wide enough to warrant 2 windows and your parents followed building regs when getting the partition done. Even if you both have to launch yourselves into the beds like you are playing Jenga if will solve the issues....

Cantfindafreeusername · 28/08/2026 17:56

surely your husband is no longer a guest but part of the family at this point? So him on the sofa is no different than one of your sisters? In fact I think my husband would insist that he was on the sofa and the girls in the rooms. If anyone wakes him up in the morning I’m sure he can squeeze in with you for an hour or so! Let me guess your the first sister to be pregnant???

Wait - the night before your mum's wedding you threw a main character tantrum?! Prxieless

Aren't you concerned that you're about to have twins but can't afford £40 for a hotel room

OP can afford - she just doesn't want too/ see why she should hence the martyring I'll sleep on the sofa behaviour

NewHere83 · 28/08/2026 17:50

WildLeader · 28/08/2026 17:34

damned right

my mum chose my sister to share with her in the double bed next to the toilet shoving me into a twin room with single beds

i tried to suggest (6m pg) that id be better off nearer the loo and in a bigger bed, but my mum had a massive tantrum because it was her wedding the next day and that she deserved to be in the bigger bed

I ended up shoving the 2 twins together in the twin room- which was over the bloody hotel kitchen too. So was noisy and smelly.

i never forgot how she made me feel, either hindsight this was the very beginning of the end of my relationship with her

@strawberrylemons get a hotel. Show them you matter. Draw the boundary now.

of course your H can’t sleep on the sofa, it’s intrusive on the rest of the household if they’re getting up for dogs etc.

SandyHappyPerson · 28/08/2026 17:47

Talk to your husband and ask him what he would like to do. All this faffing around 'on his behalf' sounds like it is creating a bit of bad feeling.

Bogstandardname · 28/08/2026 17:42

Having read more of your posts, heavily pregnant, taking the dogs, no room for husband, can't afford a hotel, just stay at home.

You're unreasonable to not expect your husband to sleep on the sofa.

OP, you have the patience of a saint with the replies on this thread! It’s been an endurance for me just reading it. I can’t count the amount of times you’ve had to repeat yourself.

It’s one of those issues where there’s no real solution so people tend to victim-blame instead, saying you’re ’refusing options’ etc. Ignore it all. Sounds like you’ll end up on the sofa due to your selfish sister but hopefully it won’t be too uncomfortable for you. Good luck with the twins. With the patience and tolerance you’ve shown here, you’ll be a great mum.

If she ends up on the sofa it’s only because her own husband has taken her bed!
Seriously what sort of man would actually be happy to do that?
OPs DH taking her bed isn’t the sisters fault.

StressedOutPeanut · 28/08/2026 17:40

Get a tent and stick him in the garden. 😂

Bogstandardname · 28/08/2026 17:38

Get a hotel room. You and hubby will.both be comfortable and no bed drama necessary.

Show them you matter? This is honestly bat shit.
Each sibling has a bed, OP has brought her spouse along despite knowing there’s no space for him, so of course he has the sofa.
The dogs are his and OPs!!
Why on earth would one of the sisters be deprioritised for OP’s husband?

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 28/08/2026 17:37

mrsm43s · 28/08/2026 17:17

Actually I think it's OP manipulating things to try to force one of the sisters to give up their rooms. It's a non event if her DH just sleeps on the sofa which is clearly the obvious solution, but just think how much mileage she'll get out of her 'meanie' sisters making her sleep on the sofa when she's PREGNANT with TWINS!

I think the sisters can see straight through OPs manipulative ways (probably used to it), and are quite rightly not pandering to her.

We can't know of course, but there's definitely something in the "I was always made to give up my room" - no mention of the sisters having to give up theirs? Maybe OP thinks it's their turn? A chance for her mum to be on her side, as opposed to kicking her out of her room?

In all seriousness OP, all this insistence on how you look after guests is just silly if it means that a pregnant woman sleeps on a sofa.

There are four beds - one double, three singles and the sofa. Six people. Two couples, one of which can't share a single, and two singles. And two dogs.

Whatever your opinions about hosts, you aren't one here, you're equal to your sister's and husband - but your parents even suggested giving up their room, which even makes more sense than you taking the sofa, if they are so set on none of their guests sleeping on the sofa, then include the sisters in that.

And just to add a last anecdote, when I had people.over for my hen, I gave up my bed and slept in a tent, letting the pregnant women have my kingsize.

Your parents should decide who sleeps where, with your condition in mind. Your sister sounds selfish 😳

This.
When my now adult children return home l decide who sleeps where if there is any issue. It's my home. Usually the kids have their own rooms but if it was a situation like this l would call it...end of story.
