Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

The M5 is notorious. We were stuck in a jam for a few hours on it a few months ago. Whilst sitting there wondering what was going on I found a Facebook page dedicated to travel news on M5. Pretty much every day there is a bit closed due to crash, car on fire, caravan overturned and sadly on the Avonmouth bridge individuals on the road. Although, recently people wandering on the road in other areas also seems to becoming more common.

She was flying from Bristol Airport (Lulsgate) and coming up the M5 from Devon IIRC.
She had a thread on here in the last month stressing about it! Most said she was moderately over the top.
I like to be early but not that early 😂I just hope she unwinds a bit on holiday!

If your hairdresser is not more than half hour late you will be fine. Working backwards from flight time of 7, you could aim to arrive at airport 4pm so would need to leave at 12 which gives you 3 hours at airport and 4 hours to get there. You have loads of time

And no apology needed because she got to the airport 4 hours before the flight.

You were half an hour later than planned leaving the hairdressers and still arrived with 3 hours and 40 minutes to spare. Before the bag drop even opened. And you really can’t see that you were being overdramatic?

I get leaving plenty of contingency time. But the whole point of the contingency time is so that you don’t get stressed over every tiny hiccup. You sound incredibly hard work.

So you arrived even before bag drop opened. The bag dropping counter stays open till 60 mins before flight time.You didn’t have to be the first person to go through it.

I take short haul flights with one hour margin and long haul 2. 3 hours before for short haul is waste of time.

I took a short haul flight today. Got stuck in some traffic and ended up arriving 1h15mins before flight departed.
Strolled through passport control and security and still sat at the gate for 15mins before boarding started.

It wasn’t ideal but I never panicked. I’ve never understood people getting to an airport 4 hours early, and it’s completely bonkers to be so extremely worried that you’d post on Mumsnet before it’s even 9am!!

I have hair extensions and I’ve been in the chair 4 hours. I would never book a hair appointment when I was flying anywhere that day. Hairdressers rarely run on time.

M5 was chockablock mostly all day, as per usual on a friday, plus I believe there was a lane closure too.
Hope you got your hair done plus made your flight

Yabu to leave it until last minute to go to the hairdressers. People like you really irritate me. I work in retail and people will come in the morning off first day back at school and moan that we don't have school shoes in their childs size and it some how becomes my fault. Or come to pick up their currency on the way to the airport and then get annoyed because the travel money counter is closed or they can't get what they need. There is absolutely no need to leave everything until the very last minute.

This. Your hairdresser could have been ill or had an emergency- if its important to you, don't book it for the last possible opportunity.

My hairdresser was once running an hour late so I said sorry no can do because my flight was in four hours, she didn’t mind because technically she was the one who cancelled the appointment time not me.

But presumably anyone else that is having their hair done in the run up to a holiday wants it done for the holiday. If you don’t care about that, it’s all good, right?
