AIBU to feel panicked about Russia bombing the UK?

Russia cant even beat Ukraine - a war they tnought would be over in 3 weeks. I dont think they will want to be taking on NATO

Contrary to the absolute nonsense you might read on Social Media and in certain UK shitrags masquerading as newspapers, Putin is not insane, not crazy, not stupid, not "unpredictable", and not a lunatic.

The world has had nuclear weapons for 80 years, through dozens of leaders who had the option to deploy them. None of them have bar Truman, and he certainly wasn't insane or unpredictable.

Putin knows as well as anyone that an indiscriminate nuclear attack on a NATO member would lead to the total destruction of Russia, everything Putin cares about, his legacy, and the future of Russia and the ethnic Russian people, so no, he's not about to go firing nukes at the UK, so you really need to stop fretting about that and get some more help for your anxiety.

Putin could have by now deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine, because it would certainly expedite the end of that conflict, yet so far there is no sign whatsoever of any intent to do so because even that would provoke international outrage and condemnation, and likely poison already fractious relations with the likes of China, who Russia is going to be increasingly dependant upon given their struggling economy and growing international isolation.

Get a fucking grip. I've said it before, I'll say it again: Russia cannot take Ukraine on their own bloody doorstep, they're not stupid enough to go up against the UK and they certainly don't want to go up against NATO. They would trigger article 5. That will not end well for them. Putin has children whom I think we can safely say he does not want to die. He wants a soviet Russia. Not a smoking hole in the map.

it is unlikely to be a big attack. Much more likely to be a cyber attacks, etc. Can you take any sensible precautions- some extra cash out, a bit of extra water and food.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s believing that the end would come with a Soviet bomb, But I don’t believe it’ll happen now. Despite his big man act, Putin won’t want to take on NATO. His armed forces are in bits just fighting Ukraine.

There is no way someone like Putin would commit suicide, he's far too convinced that the world needs him to run things properly.

They are not going to bomb a NATO country. They're far too busy fucking about with our underwater pipelines, social media, and hacking into our computer systems. All of which they've been doing for years.

Calm down. This is not the first time someone's stood up for him, or the first time he's made some threats in retaliation. Nothing serious happened earlier, nothing serious will happen now. He may do some small scale cyber attacks or some such, but he won't be bombing that place. Have a good night's sleep, I will!

Have you listened to Mark Galeotti's podcast, In Moscow's Shadows? He's an expert who debunks a lot of propaganda, whether pro-Kremlin or anti-Kremlin.

If you have any sense of history over the last 100 years, you'll know that attack by Soviet Union/Russia has been a threat for much of that time....in the 80s we used to joke about what we'd do with our last 4 minutes!
In the vanishingly unlikely event that it actually happens, well c'est la vie....we've all got to go sometime.
More seriously, don't waste the time you do have worrying about things completely outside your control - it's a pointless use of your time and energy. Just concentrate on enjoying your life.

When DS was little i was so convinced we'd die in a freak terrorist attack that I stopped going out the house.
It a a debilitating fear that people down plan.
I did end up going to a Dr and got sertraline and CBT and now have a little saying in my head.
Whenever I end up panicked I tell myself "not now" and I let myself worry in the morning when I'm more prepared. I can do things, research or rationalise with myself.
Then I remind myself that there is nothing I can do and it's not my problem to solve. All I can do is look after my own and be the best person I can.

this is how anxiety works. the fear is what keeps people 'safe'. so you cant expect them to relinquish the fear or they'll be open to getting hurt. it is a horrible thing to live with, and youre very lucky if you havent experienced it to this degree.

Fair do's then, you have a general anxiety problem. Well done for being honest about it, hopefully that's the start of being able access help. I think you can see that your level must be really irrational since it covers things people do all the time.

The bottom line is, eventually we all die, and some people are unlucky earlier than others. Sure, take some reasonable sensible measures, but then live, comfortably, with the knowledge that fate is just that.
