To go home from holiday?

I’m on holiday with my husband, kids and in laws. I think I’m coming down with COVID or flu, in less than 12 hours I’ve gone from feeling like maybe the start of a mild cold to every inch of my body aching and shivering. We’re a couple of hours from home but I could drive - I just don’t want to be stuck in a lodge on a sofa bed feeling like this! DH isn’t overly pleased at my suggestion that I might have to go.
is it really unreasonable?

Go home you need your own bed when ill.

Plus you don’t want to pass on germs to the rest of them.

Can the in-laws drop your family off so it doesn’t interfere with their holiday.

@pilates I can just leave on my own as they have another car so would be able to get home in just the one car at the end of the week, no one else needs to cut their holiday short for me going home if you know what I mean.

I cut a holiday short in 2021 - i am sure I had covid. I had spent nights coughing on the sofa in the accomodation. Eventually I said to my husband please can we just pack and go home a day early. He said of course. I thought the world world cave in, the kids would be devastated etc etc. You know what.....nothing happened except we packed up not in a rush on leaving morning, and we drove home. Yes I was sad, but I needed my own bed at home.

Go home. Drive slowly and carefully. Husband and kids can finish the holiday or come with you.

I sympathise entirely @GroovyMinx , it sounds miserable to be stuck on a sofa bed in a lodge when all you want is your own comfy bed, surrounded by your own stuff.
If you can manage the drive, take a couple of paracetamol (if you can) to keep the fever/aches and pains in check for a couple of hours.
And take lots of care.

Thanks everyone. I just got my Dad to pick up this test, it looks positive for flu doesn’t it?

So have you gone home? (I've never seen a test like that before. If A means flu then yes looks positive)

It says flu is A plus B? I can’t see a line on B? But you’ve obviously got something and maybe it’s too early to test.

I didn't know there was a flu test.
Flu can cause a really quick deterioration. I personally wouldn't risk a couple of hours driving alone. I also wouldn't want to risk passing it to others. Really tricky situation for you. I hope you feel better soon.

Are you safe to drive though ?
I had flu last year for the 1st time and could barely stand up , no way could I drive.

You’re not safe to drive. Obviously your husband should drop you home, in laws watch kids.

Yes go home. You can always come back if you improve. I would not stay in a busy holiday lodge with flu! No way. Pick up some medicatio, drinks and soup and leave now before it fully kicks in. Your dh might not be happy, but that is his problem, you clearly can't stay where you are.

Also if I were your in laws, I would really rather you didn't stay so I could catch it! I think you are being very considerate to leave.

Because then he will have to do all the child care etc? But the way you are feeling now he will have to anyway and the longer you stay the more chance you pass it on

Yes you have flu. I'd see if someone else could drive you but I'd also want to be getting home.

Yeah I had it a few weeks ago and it was horrible. I was so confused as to why I felt so awful as I’d never had flu before. Nightmare of a week that was x_x

Maybe you need to get your H to drive you home and look after you. If it’s flu you might end up so ill that you can’t even get your own drinks, and it can be a fast deterioration so I would worry about the drive.

In laws stay on holiday with kids, husband takes you home and looks after you?

Exactly my thoughts! He doesn’t want to be left with the kids by himself. Arsehole.

I had the most horrendous flu aged 19 on a trip to New York with university for my history of modern art couse... it made me feel so weak, I could barely stand up. I missed most of the outings to the art galleries, and spent a week in a youth hostel bunk bed feeling sorry for myself hundreds of miles from home! I'm definitely sympathetic towards the OP.

It means that side of the test tests for A and B. If the line is at A it's influenza A and if at B it's influenza B.
