AIBU to consider moving to Scotland because I cannot cope with heat?

That’a a non-sequitur, but people vote for them because:

1. Some people agree that males should have access to female spaces.
2. Many people who aren’t paying attention think the Scottish Greens are a green party, i.e. mainly concerned with environmental issues.

Try it for a year, rent a house and rent out yours, that way you could see it if it’s a good fit.

What is it about the heat that you don't like? Have you always been like this or have you become less able to tolerate heat?

We have not had the heatwaves, true and my heating kicked in a couple of times, whilst England was experiencing excessive heat. But we have a inefficient snp government here where you will pay more tax than you currently do!
You need to do lots more research house prices, different way of house purchase, Edinburgh house prices similar to London!

Before you make a final decision, make a list of the pros and cons. I can’t stand the heat either and spent almost a month on “house arrest” this summer. I also live near the UK’s rainiest city. If I moved, I would miss the theatres and museums, first-class NHS provision at all levels, better than average transport provision, choice of schools, etc. Have you thought about the midges? Can you understand the accent? What about the different law and education systems etc.
Just get air con and hibernate for three
months rather than uproot everyone for a dream which might not work out.

I live in the North East of Scotland. I would move if I could because the weather is so bad and the winter is so long. I cant for simple economic reasons. My house is equivalent in value to a small flat in an English city, my job is tied to the industry up here and my children are in a school here. I dont think you can say, just leave. We have had a very chilly cloudy windy summer this year. Its bleak, it has felt like a mediocre spring day at best most days. There are less seasons here. Also its not very friendly. Fine if you are a tourist but its taken me 20 years to feel accepted. No one will target you for being English but the Scots are very different in outlook and it creates distance. Its a massive move that I wouldn't undertake lightly. UK weather is so variable even with global warming.

I think moving makes a lot of sense for you, @OP. It's not difficult to avoid midges and some of the (relatively) hotter spots such as the Moray coast. Even the hotter places are probably fine as we're talking odd days, not the relentless, scorching heat that further South has endured for weeks. You obviously can cope with rain and dark Winter days. You just need to do a bit of research to get the lifestyle you want. Central belt will be much like many places further South with access to multiple urban areas. Further North you have a choice to live very or moderately rurally, relative to the few bigger cities and the market towns. Even the very rural places are served by supermarket deliveries now so it's not like it was when my parents relocated over 50 years ago. Yes, there will be things you miss and a lot of moves create temporary homesickness but I think it could be just what you need and very exciting - good luck!

It has been over 30C in my part of Fife for several days so far this year. It’s over 90% humidity as well.

I was being sarcastic because it’s laughable that this person has an impression of Scotland being full of midges. I live in Edinburgh and am generally untroubled by them.

Maybe if you live by a lake or the forest but I don't have many midges that bother me in my wee village 😂 can't remember the last time I even had a midgie bite.

I live in central belt of Scotland and if I was you I would be doing the same. I couldn't handle some of the temps the south have been getting recently. Mind you it has been hot this summer and that was hot enough for me. Some people love to moan saying we have wet summers too, we just had a long spell from march to June with which had less than half the average rainfall and hot temps for weeks on end this summer! Short memories!

The winters are becoming more mild here too, wet and windy which is a shame instead of snow but if you like cooler climes I would go for it. Plenty of nice places depending on what you like. Enjoy!

Scotland can’t afford anything because it has promised too much. But their drugs deaths are very high - social housing is in crisis, their hate laws mean in theory you can get 7 years’ in prison for the wrong opinion which is biologically accurate, additional rate tax is the highest in the union for a crappy return.

fewer GPs, fewer schools - I could go on but I can’t be bothered. Scotland has some pretty walks but between the rain and the moronic government you’d be mad to buy a house there (Christ knows the heating cost of it).

I love Scotland and especially the Scottish people . They are the nicest , most friendly people I have ever come across. Have been to Edinburgh a few times and St. Andrews many times . It was so lovely and cool this summer . Beautiful place !

But is it just you moving- you mentioned parents and a daughter? What does you daughter think of the colder and darker climate?

Move to Northumberland it's great as a Liverpudlian it is great for climate I cannot be more ecstatic!

The SNP have ruined Scotland. I don't personally know anyone that votes for them, but some people obviously do.

So ashamed to be Scottish sometimes because of SNP (Sturgeon, Humza and now Swinney) plus the whole gang of acolytes. AND their bedfollows, the (even more) perverted Green Party.

I have family members who have moved out of Scotland to England because of the mess the SNP have made. Scots born and bred, and they didn't recognise it anymore, utterly fed up with the divisiveness of the whole independence debate.
