To think Dolly Parton was some sort of prophet or philosopher

There have been loads of clips of Dolly Parton interviews around and articles with quotes and the more I watch and read, the more I think she was some kind of font of wisdom. An oracle. A prophet.

Her approach to life, everything, she was like Yoda in rhinestones. Just the perfect attitude, and a long, productive, inspirational life.

”Legend” is thrown around liberally but in her case it is fully deserved.

Yes, my sister works in a literacy charity (not in the UK, but also a beneficiary) and DP is regarded with reverence. (Literally -- there's a poster of her with fairylights in the lunchroom!)

Yes, my sister works in a literacy charity (not in the UK, but also a beneficiary) and DP is regarded with reverence. (Literally -- there's a poster of her with fairylights in the lunchroom!)

I knew books had been given out in the uk but not that many.

I admired her for so many different reasons. But the thing that was most impressive for me, is that she made a point of NOT becoming a billionaire. That definite financial choice allowed her to set up and maintain all her wonderful humanitarian projects.
The world would be a better place if more billionaires thought like Dolly. 💔

No scandals followed her; George had a few, but I think he wasn't as mentally stable as Dolly.
But my point was they both did loads for charities and good causes behind the scenes; neithet felt the need to tell the world what they were doing.

I think the whole point was she was totally free to do what she wanted, and felt the same about everyone else.

I think when it comes out after their death that they did a lot for charity....that's the true measure of how generous and good-hearted someone is.
...George Micheal springs to mind.
There is a celeb who is always talking about what he is going to do to help people....and he does it, if only he didn't have to announce it.

I truly loved George, but Dolly was just on another level.

She was just a decent human being not many left she did go round doing charity work and wanting a prize for it she put her money were her mouth was not like the fakes like the beckams she was the real thing probly one of the last

I think she has such a wonderful way with words! Obviously she was a gifted songwriter but she was great in interviews and quick witted too.

Really? In all cases? What about for breast reconstructions after a mastectomy? What about correcting terrible birth defects? Those people could just put up with their lot too. But if their personal mental health and wellbeing is better because of plastic surgery then thank goodness for plastic surgery. What people do with their body is their business. Perhaps we should save our criticisms for the society that judges people on how they look instead.

Dolly came to the hospital I worked at in South Yorkshire as part of her Imagination Library. I remember seeing her surrounded by 'the management' though she did meet some of the 'proper' staff and went on to the maternity unit. The parents of the latest newborn was pictured with her, and the huge picture is still displayed in the hospital to this day.

For such a huge personality, she was tiny.

Small but mighty.
