Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

Not content with staring at dog and owners in cafes, she’s tracking them outside too.

Honestly you’ll all be so much happier if you concentrate on your own lives.

You don't see dog owners walking their dogs because you're in the cafe stuffing cake too.

I generally don't like dogs in eating establishments but it's certainly made going on holiday with the dog easier now that she can go in most places.

Dog lover here but I think restaurants and cafes should be NO DOGS. Pubs? Maybe. Up to management to decide. I would not be offended if I had a dog denied access.

Balance is important - I am a dog owner and dog lover, and I absolutely agree that there should be dog free establishments for people who don’t want to be around dogs when they eat, and dog friendly establishments too - but there needs to be enough of each, and it needs to be clear to everyone if a place is dog friendly, so people can make an informed choice.

It is also the responsibility of dog owners who do take their dogs to dog friendly places to make sure that they behave well - if your dog can’t behave in a cafe or restaurant, then I’m sorry, but you shouldn’t take them. People will notice and remember one badly behaved dog.

It's not. The problem isn't that there aren't plenty of dog free venues, because there are, it's that some entitled people want ALL places to be dog free, because that's what they prefer and fuck everyone else.

I will continue to do my research and take my well behaved dog to dog friendly venues as I wish. I will also have the courtesy to leave my dog behind should I be visiting a dog free place. Because I'm not an entitled cunt, and I don't expect the whole world to revolve around me, I'll do my research and respect the rules that the establishment sets without throwing a tantrum.

Chilli Pickle, Creams Cafe, Las Iguanas….. too. There are loads.

From 10 minutes on Google, I have found The Salt Room, The Coal Shed, Costa, MandS, Burn Orange, and The Ivy in Brighton that do not allow dogs indoors.

I'm really not believing this assertion that it is "impossible" to find somewhere to eat without hordes of dogs wandering the dining rooms.

Really. That is a staggering generalisation. I'll have a go. In my local town the cafes that allow dogs have the same bored, fat, stressed, unhealthy dogs shoved under tables while their owners eat cake. Never see these dog owners on the many popular dog walks nearby, ever.

Where I go on holiday, the businesses that didn't allow dogs have all either had to pivot to allowing dogs, or closed. Ditto with the holiday cottages (I have one, so keep an eye on the market). The ones that don't allow dogs are being sold, the ones that do allow dogs are booked solidly.

MN hates it. But clearly most of the population are quite pleased by the inclusion of dogs if your success and that of the businesses I know is anything to go by.

(a) despite the so-called percentage stated above - the vast majority of places are dog-friendly

and (b) (a) is the case because if someone says no to dogs there's a concerted campaign against them. My local garden centre banned dogs last year but when I was in there at Christmas I noticed they were allowed again although that could also be because

(c) even when they aren't really allowed the staff won't do anything (which I kind of understand as they don't want to be abused but a security guard in Sainsburys should!)

I agree if one well behaved dog sits quietly under a table it's not an issue (unless you are allergic). But being hassled by dogs happens often enough that people are afraid of it happening. That isn't a phobic, it's a reasonably held concern.

But the worst experience I had wasn't customer dogs, it was the owners. They had two dogs and allowed them to wander around the cafe begging at the tables. I've not been back.

I adore dogs and I've owned two, but I totally agree with you. I dont think dogs belong in eating establishments or shops, unless they're a guide dog or a genuine trained assistance dog.

I know I'll become unpopular for this but anyway.
I part own 3 restaurants. Since allowing dogs we have not only been saved from bankruptcy but pay in excess of £200k a year extra in tax from our latest site. We put pictures of dogs on the wall and people bloody love it. I've had ONE complaint when a dog did a wee which I was annoyed about too. Otherwise, it's been a popular move for us.
Speaking to other establishments, those that have gone under do not allow dogs.
I also have a lot more money myself. Have bought a sports car. All good

So no dog owners do not need to leave their dogs at home.

It’s vile to smell dog smell while you are eating. We always move tables or leave the restaurant if our food hasn’t actually arrived yet, it is more difficult if you are actually eating.

It’s absaloutly vile. Dogs should be left at home, and if they can’t then the owners can’t dine out, full stop. Haven’t read comments no doubt there are some rockets saying ‘Oooo but kids are badly behaved too…’ idiots. Kids are f-ing human beings you numb skulls. Dogs are ANIMALS. In all cases, dogs (and adults and children) should behave respectfully, and follow the rules of the establishment.

There is something extremely entitled about not doing your research, turning up to a dog friendly venue and then throwing a tantrum because someone with dogs sits (yes, just sits) at table next to you.

It's not fine anywhere. Some people don't like dogs, some people are frightened of dogs. Some people have an absolute phobia.

Dogs aren't people even though some people think they are, and don't need to go everywhere people go.

Yes. I think the stats are not correct because many cafes will not be putting the information out there either way. In my area I know 90% cafes are dog-friendly but Google does not show that.
