Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

As I've said I'm a sensible and considerate owner so no, I do not take my dog into a busy noisy place. She like walks not sitting under tables.

We're just trying to educate some of you that dogs need training, this includes leaving them for periods of time becaue what on earth will you do (you generally not you specifically) if you can't take it with you somewhere like hospital appointments etc.

Be kind and considerate to other customers but more importantly put your dog's welfare first.

Yep. Hardly ever go out to eat now. Minging dogs tethered to entitled arseholes. It just ruins it.

There is even an ad on the telly at the moment with two rolling around on a carpet in what is presumably a pub restaurant. I can just imagine the dog dander and dog snot flying through the air. Makes me feel sick.

The hill that I will die on. Dogs should not be allowed in eating establishments.

Just had another lunch spoilt as a family came in with 3, yes 3, large dogs and sat down at the table beside us. It’s gross, unhygienic and anti social. If I wanted to eat surrounded by animals I’d grab a takeaway and go and sit in a vet’s waiting room.

Close to £100 wasted on a lunch where I had a dog licking it’s bumhole in my line of vision.

So you’re incapable of doing an internet search and don’t have a Pret or Starbucks where you live?

It would be absolutely lovely if all the dog owners on this thread could list all the eating places they’ve found which don’t allow them in with their dogs. Sadly, many cafes which don’t advertise as dog-friendly nevertheless allow them in, making it very difficult for those of us who can’t or don’t want to be near dogs. I can’t think of a single reliably dog-free cafe in any of the villages near me, and the city centre isn’t much better.

It's ok to not want to be in places where dogs are allowed. But YABU for going to a dog friendly restaurant and using rude language to describe other customers that have as much right to be there as you do, and are within the rules of the establishment.

It doesn't sound as though the dogs did anything wrong other than exist in your space. You are being rude.

If you don't like dogs go to somewhere that doesn't allow dogs.

It is simple. If you don't think dogs should be in cafes, don't take your dog there.
Your right to dictate where a dog goes stops at the end of the lead you are holding.
This thread is full of entitled people telling others not to do things because they don't like it, even against what the business owners want.

No. I don't have to 'get over' a policy I dislike, simply because market forces are dictating its normalisation. There are still plenty of us out here who think some places are not suitable for dogs (guide dogs aside), however much you may think using lots of exclamation marks is an effective means of browbeating people (it's not, btw). You only have to look at the poll results to see that I'm not alone in this.

A question, though, as you're such a froth over this issue: do you take your dog/s into restaurants, and do you make sure they don't affect other diners' evenings out if so?

It’s up to the owner, not you!!!! Dog friendly establishments have looked into it and calculated they make more being dog friendly with dog owners and the odd obsessive dog hater loss than prohibiting dogs. Get over it, it’s not going to change .

Why did you go somewhere dog friendly op? Usually there’s a dining area where dogs can’t get to unless 5 of you are eating for £100.

Pubs have always been dog friendly, especially country pubs. I don’t see that changing, however much you moan about it!

Dogs shouldn't be in an establishment that serves food and drink. Full stop. It's unhygienic, and makes others feel uncomfortable as a result. For want of a better word, my 'right' to feel comfortable eating out far outweighs a dog owner's supposed 'right' to take their dogs wherever they please.

A line has to be drawn somewhere. Yes pubs can do what they like, but I daresay a lot of them do it to please the dog lovers parade and stop them whining.
