Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

Oh dear, I meant ‘coo’ not ‘cook’! 😘

I do have a memory of buying a coffee in a very nice cafe and it being completely ruined by two dogs barking continuously very close to me. I had tried to grab an hour to myself away from my children and I remember feeling 🤬🤯

Neither have I for that matter. Dogs and their owners just go about their day in my experience. Even friends and family members don’t expect me to cook over their dogs. Any more than I expect them to fuss over my cats.

What does that look like? I mean, how are the dog owners who think you should coo over their dog acting?
I have never seen anyone with a dog expect other people to give it any attention. Are you mindreading?

Good for you raising your head above the parapet Op. This is just an extension of children being allowed everywhere. I am all in favour of inclusivity but it’s also ok to recognise that not everyone wants the same experience when they go out.
Personally I love both (my) children and dogs when out but appreciate many others do not. My corner of S London has bent itself in half to be “inclusive”. With 15 eateries in less than a square mile guess which is the most popular and successful? Clue: it’s the only pub which “doesn’t welcome under 10’s”.

I hear you (and agree with you) I’m also bloody sick of it… I don’t dislike dogs. I dislike the owners who think I should coo over their dog when I’m trying to eat my dinner…. And whenever they shake and their hair goes everywhere! Boils my piss!

Do as I say or I’ll do my best to make you feel bad by saying you smell.

I’ve offered to sign people’s petition previously to keep dogs out of places. They didn’t want to start a petition though … obviously.

I’m a dog lover, plenty of dog friendly restaurants and cafes that I take mine to. Plenty of restaurants and cafes that aren’t dog friendly. Do your research.

I wonder if they realise how they're coming across?

Non-dog owner: There are dogs in the dog-friendly eatery I want to eat in, and I don't like it. Make them leave.
Dog owner: I'm sorry, my dog is welcome here. Have you tried a place that doesn't allow dogs?
NDO: I don't want to. And anyway, there aren't any. Stop doing the thing you are allowed to do that I don't like.
DO: Here, I've Googled for you, there are these places.
NDO: No, they are too far. I want to eat here. Take your dog away.
DO: What about Wetherspoons?
NDO: No! I WANT TO EAT HERE! STOP BEING SO ENTITLED!

This is a bit disingenuous. You keep saying you don’t have a dog now which is true I assume. However, you have posted many times before about your dog who went with you everywhere. So you are speaking as a former dog owner.

Says the entitled person, going to places that don't meet her needs due to lack of research and deciding that's everyone else's problem but hers!

I take my well behaved, well trained dog, on occasion, to dog friendly places where she is allowed to be, following all applicable rules, having researched and prepared in advance. There's nothing whatsoever entitled about that!

The rules change when points need to be made. Dogs can not be compared to children. Can be compared to cigarettes and so on.

Some of these posts. Don’t want to eat in those dog free restaurants. Don’t want to check if a restaurant a do want to eat in is dog friendly. Yet it’s the people taking their dogs to places that welcome that are entitled? It’s shame some are so offended by dogs but banging on the way some posters do puts me off being too sympathetic.

I should have known an entitled dog owner would 100% not see the funny side of it and take it personally.

I only go to dog friendly places to eat because if I’m away, I’ll have them with me. They sit under the table and are very quiet.

Could you choose places that are not dog friendly?

So why bring up children at all?

I don’t particularly notice the smell either, despite not owning a dog. My DH, who is allergic to dogs, does notice it every time. It obviously bothers some people more than others.

You must be right.

I was a smoker for about ten years and never noticed the smell on myself or others. Since I gave up, I can smell a smoker even when they aren't smoking.

If I go into a "dog friendly" place, I can smell dog immediately, even if there are no dogs present.

I can't imagine how anyone could fail to notice the sour, stale smell, but judging by some of the posts on here, there are some (presumably dog owners) that don't smell it.

The arrogance of some dog owners hits once again. Fair enough if you are on a day out, but if you are just going out for lunch or an evening meal then returning home why can't you just leave the dog behind?

I wouldn’t eat in those places. I also don’t want to have to research places just to have a simple lunch. I think the onus is on the person bringing their lifestyle with them. Be it, dogs, smoking, loud music etc, to research preferable places to take their lifestyle choice.

It’s no surprise when something like 40% of households have a dog. It’s a massive chunk of people to potentially not allow in. Especially if a good percentage of non dog owners don’t mind dogs.

Obviously dog owners could leave dogs at home if they specifically wanted to go somewhere.  But most of the time a cafe stop is incorporated into a dog walk.

No point arguing with a dog owner about the smell. It is the same phenonium as smokers and the smell - when your used to it you don't notice.
