Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

How do you know what other customers want?

The owners of the business are happy to have them there.

I don't think they did! I think they meant 'Wah, wah, I deserve to have my own way in every place I go to because Mummy told me I'm the most important person in the world!"

Why should you have that option over and above the majority (dog owners and those who don't mind dogs)?

What other minorities should pubs cater to to the detriment of their majority customer base? Should we have alcohol free pubs for alcoholics? Whole food pubs for Slimming World followers? Vegan pubs?

I think they probably meant ‘thank you for doing this research for us’.

The consideration shown is not taking dogs into places that don’t welcome them. Dog friendly places are fair game. Why wouldn’t they be?

If you think taking a dog to a dog friendly place for it to sit under the table is similar to how you treat your children, do better!

The British lose our collective senses when it comes to dogs. People, on the other hand, can go hang.

As it happens I've known and loved many a dog, cat and horse (the latter two admittedly being my preference). I know how to care for them. But the anthropomorphic 'fur babying' leaves me cold. They are not human. And treating them as such services only the needs of humans, not the animal.

No, it isn't enough. We have a dog I'd never take her in a restaurant holiday or not.

Other customers don't want them there. Show some consideration.

No Cote (never heard of this), no Wagamamma, no Prezzo, no Ivy (I thought this was only in London) and no Nandos. And that aside I should have the option of being able to eat in the local pub. Obviously you seem cleverer than everyone else on this post at finding dog free places.

This. Holidays are the only occasion we take our dog to the restaurant. Fortunately she's well behaved. Still not enough for some I know...

And also no Wetherspoons, no Wagamama, no Pizza Express, no Toby Carvery, no Nandos, no Côte, no The Ivy, no Prezzo, no McDonalds, no Burger King, no KFC, no Subway, and those are just the chains I found in a 30 second search...

You might want to research a bit harder...

It comes down to this:
considerate dog owners are fine. They realise their dog might scare some people or might put other people off their food. They don’t let their dog encroach upon others. Just as a considerate person listening to music on a train turns the volume down and checks it’s not blaring out of the ear piece. They empathise with other people and understand some people are scared of dogs or don’t know how to act around dogs.
inconsiderate dog owners do exist. Let dog walk on lead under neighbouring table or on upholstered furniture. Worst case go up to other table and put head to other diners’ table etc. Or nuzzle other people’s legs under the table.
it depends on whether or not you respect other people. It’s not the dog its the owner.

I live in Switzerland. Dogs are allowed in restaurants and cafes - cheap or fancy doesn’t matter. In general Switzerland has higher standards of cleaning and hygiene than in UK. UK has moulds in bathrooms, especially in rental properties, that is a greater hygiene health issue.
I have never seen dogs licking bums in restaurants but I have seen kids digging their nose which is also disgusting, not to mention them touching food in supermarkets but it won’t be right banning them so why a well behaved dog sitting by the owners’ feet in a restaurant is a problem?

Being terrified of dogs the first thing I do is check for dog free hotels, restaurants, cafés etc...and believe you me they hardly exist.
I don't know where you live but lots of the places you mention I have never heard of or we don't have in my area e.g. Giggling Squid, Flat Iron, Zizzi etc...

Add in also Côté, The Ivy, Flat Iron, Prezzo, Zizzi...

I don't doubt that the US is behind the UK when it comes to animal welfare standards, but that has nothing to do with whether dogs are allowed in eateries!

I have never seen a dog tethered in a garden. I have never been and will never be a dog owner, but almost all of my friends do have dogs and they certainly don't tether them in their gardens. I don't know anything about ear cropping or tail docking, as again, I'm not a dog owner. Nor do I have any interest in dogs. But if these practices are cruel yet legal in the US, that still is completely irrelevant when it comes to dogs being allowed in restaurants.

If you do your research you'll know. Many major chains including Wetherspoons and Pizza Express, Wagamama, Nandos, Giggling Squid, Toby Carvery are dog free (or dogs only allowed outside). Again, another 10 second search. These chains, and the many, many other dog free establishments are available for you to visit.

Why on earth specifically choose a dog friendly pub, or an area without one of the very many dog free estabishments available across the Uk, and then complain about dogs being in the dog friendly establishment you've chosen to eat in.

mrsm43 There's nothing wrong with taking dogs to dog friendly places, the issue that has been repeated over and over again in this thread by many people is that finding a dog free place is like finding a needle in a haystack. I wouldn't mind if there were places that would suit us all but there isn't. I don't want to think that the only place I can eat out for the rest of my life is McDonald's or KFC.

Where are all these dog free places??? In my (touristy) town- there's 20+ cafes/pubs and only one is dog free ( and always full of those awkward none dog people;) )

Dog spreading is definitely annoying, as I said earlier in the thread. I’m fine with dogs in pubs, but I hate tripping over them when going to the bar to buy a drink.

Agreed. I love dogs, but they are everywhere and so many owners are just morons, for example, letting them lie in the middle of a busy bar where staff trip over them instead of the owners having them by their feet.
