Dh says the U.K is f***** and he never wants to go back

These were his words this morning.

We live abroad in a place where a lot of people are coming to live, escaping the uk and America.
He says with everything on the news, the way it's going and what the people coming to where we are tell him, that we'd be mad to return.
Is he being realistic? I want to return to be with family desperately and have a strange feeling that I need to do it soon

Would we be mad to return at this time? If yes, then when!

You assume the reason why people move abroad is that they don’t like immigration, and then say it’s ironic and dissonant. But you have no idea whether that is the case even for OP’s husband.

Also I don’t actually see how applying for a visa moving abroad and securing a job is anything like jumping into a boat and crossing the channel without any documentation are the same. And if they are not comparable then where is the irony and cognitive dissonance?

I think the biggest issue is a lack of clarity on direction and commitment to a vision. Divided opinions and changing leaders often has an impact.

Infrastructure in the UK is old, was built to last, but we don't build new or maintain old things effectively. Even the rich folks of Richmond are affected: Look at hammersmith bridge which has been out of action for years with no route to fix, plus the Hammersmith Flyover and M4 which is being patched because it was considered about to fall down a few years back. The Albert Bridge is closed due to similar issues to Hammersmith and Wandsworth Bridge has a weight restriction. Basic infrastructure not solved. Heathrow expansion and HS2 have been going on for decades. I'm against both, but the farce of whether it is happening or not is crazy.

Public finance deficits just show mismanagement too.

But on the plus side teh Elizabeth line was finally completed, and local streets are getting gulleys cleaned, pavements re-laid and even the tarmac re-done.

Im not sure why the people who have the finances to live in the places with lots of amenities, beautiful surroundings and zero crime and so irritated by the people who can’t afford to live there too. It does smell a little bit like a bubble.

Yes! The news is there to sell newspapers or increase clicks.
You’ve heard of clickbait? The media has this down to a fine art.
I am a former journalist and I know exactly how to write the headlines.
