AIBU to refuse apologising after being blocked in at Tesco?

ThisIsAbsolutelyCrazy · 26/08/2026 00:07

So, yesterday I go to Tesco with DH. DH is a wheelchair user and has a Blue Badge.

There were no disabled bays or parent and child bays so I went to a far corner of the car park where there were two empty rows of normal bays and parked between 2 bays so had room for DH to get in and out.

Lo and behold we came back to a car parked so close to my driver's side that I couldn't get between the cars - less than 10 inches in between. The car had parked over into the bay I had half parked in.

We were obviously WTF. The other bays around us were still empty.

Coming round to the front of the cars, we saw there was a young lad no more that 15-17 sitting in the passenger seat of the other car. He obviously couldn't get out of his door either because it was up against mine! I said 'what kind of idiot would park like this' or some such. He said 'my dad'. Then asked him why he'd blocked him in.as well. He didn't answer and just kept his head down. I will admit I did swear a bit saying for fucks sake, this is fucking disgusting. Then said 'tell your Dad he's a complete cunt'. At no point did I make threats to the lad or swear at him. I knew he didn't park the car.

Anyway I then climbed in through the passenger side, moved the car into the row in front, got DH in and we left.

The Dad had not come back. I'm kicking myself because I didn't take a picture of the way he'd parked.

Anyway, tonight at around 8pm there's a knock at the door and two policemen are there. My heart dropped because I thought it was about one of the DC (both were out with friends), but they said they'd had a complaint about me causing 'fear and alarm' to a minor!

Turns out the Dad must have already had my reg number and told the police what I'd said. No mention of how he'd blocked me deliberately and left his son trapped in the car!

He must have known whoever came back to the car would be angry!

Anyway police said I could make a formal apology to the boy and the matter would not be taken further - this was because I admitted swearing.

I said No I will not as I had figured out by then that the Dad had done this all deliberately. No clue who he is.

AIBU to think he must be an absolute psycho?

Especially to leave his son trapped in the car!

"Are you familiar with the concept of an adult being as vulnerable as a child, through disability? So an able 15 year old could be less vulnerable than a disabled adult- depending?"

Are you familiar with the idea that it's not ok to abuse a vulnerable child ( who was in no way r sponsible for this incident) because there was another vulnerable person involved ( even if you argue they are more vulnerable)

You seem to be arguing this is the case - but if the child was disabled in some way and this more vulnerable than the op's DH THEN it's not ok?

I’m not understanding this post?

Walkden · 28/08/2026 00:36

"This “child” is unlikely to ever see, never mind be “abused” by this woman again."

  1. Not sure why you have child and abuse in quotation marks. He clearly is a child and op's action would easily meet the government definition of one of the four types of harm that police, social services, schools etc are meant to protect children from.
  1. In my experience people use the same supermarket repeatedly and get in a routine about when they do so, so it is entirely possible he will see her again.
  1. Saying the child is unlikely to see her again so it doesn't matter is a ridiculous principle. By that reasoning a rapist shouldn't be prosecuted if their victim was unlikely to see them again.
  1. You might say he should because it might happen to another woman but then again op shows no remorse for her deplorable behaviour towards a child, and sees no need to apologise. so apparently might behave similarly towards another child in the future.

Hence prevention of harm = police action

Swearing of this nature should not be done in front of kids or young adult at all, whether its to them, around them or in reference to someone else.

Edited

Generally agree but it’s certainly not the crime of the century. Absolutely not worthy of police involvement.

I hope the police do pursue a public order offence as the OP has no understanding of her behaviour.

You’d actually waste police time on this?

This thread is indeed nuts.

How do you tell if a car belongs to a man or a woman?

You cannot, but still maintain he wouldn’t have done this to another man.

This thread is nuts.

Yup, because you asked for opinions and don't like the clear response! Are you getting yet that you need to apologise? Its clearly not what you expected so perhaps you need to rethink your actions?

There is no way of using the word cunt without being aggressive. It’s also deeply misogynistic.

OP, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be dealing with everyday access issues with your DH being a wheelchair user.

i would+invite the police to take their case to the CPS.

Lets see if the CPS would like to take this one to court, shall we?

we live in an age where burglary is met with a reference number and a tiny amount of violent crimes like rape are prosecuted.

for the police to be bothering you about this is quite grotesque

the owner of that car was a cunt and his child will forever suffer die to having a cunt as a father. Alas.

don’t apologise - the cunt should be charged with wasting police time, frankly

Aren’t you just lovely!

ThisIsAbsolutelyCrazy · 26/08/2026 23:20

Nope, didn't shout.

Am i particularly unusual that I don't need to shout to use swear words?

There was no threat or abuse.

Another one lacking in reading comprehension skills.

I really would like to know who are these people who, on coming back to their car with a disabled person, and finding someone had deliberately parked half into the bay they were in so they could park within inches of their car door and block it, would not be angry, annoyed or frustrated and just say to the person the driver had deliberately trapped inside just so he could piss off a complete stranger, 'please tell the driver to be more considerate next time, dear'!

It's utter bollocks.

Oh dear oh dear. Perhaps the other driver did park so close to you deliberately because you’d parked like a knob, perhaps he didn’t. The one thing you can be certain of is that the boy didn’t park the car and yet he was the one you decided to use abusive language towards. Regardless as to whether someone has a Blue Badge or not, parking across 2 spaces is a dickish way to park. You managed to get in your car, so you weren’t totally blocked were you.
When I take my DGC out and there’s no child spaces free I do my absolute best to make sure I park with the passenger side on the end so that no one is able to park up and prevent me accessing the car seat.maybe try this next time.

Zero chance.

Also, I’d venture to say he would not have done this to a car that obviously belonged to a man.

OP has been called “horrific” names on this thread by multiple posters. Shall we phone the police?

OP started this thread, she wanted opinions I have given my opinion. However she continues to think she was in the right.

In my post I have said the OP shouldn't have intimidated the minor who was a passenger.

If I had been in the OP's place I would not have spoken to a minor like that.
The minor didn't respond to the OP, he just bowed his head down.

I haven't called OP any names and I can only speak for myself. I don't even know OP and it would be very unreasonable to call her names.

Sadly we live in a world where people think it's alright to swear and call each other names.

PenelopePinkerton · 27/08/2026 21:19

It's a case of two wrongs don't make a right.
The father did something really bad to you. That has nothing to do with the son though.
It would have probably muttered some words under my breath. If I would ever be in a situation where I'd swear at an innocent bystander then yes I would apologize
It's just the right thing to do.

I think that’s a reasonable take.

I think using the word cunt to a young lad that had done nothing wrong is horrific. Your bar is very low. As for a sheltered life, most certainly not but some people, clearly not you or the OP, have standards.

You’re on the internet insulting strangers for having opinions that differ from your own.
