I've been struggling with anxiety and agoraphobia since my mum died in Jan. I haven't left my flat for more than a few minutes since her funeral in Feb.

I've just walked around my block six times by myself and didn't panic. Feeling very proud of myself at the moment! I know it's on a tiny thing but it genuinely feels like a huge accomplishment! 🥳🥳😁😁

I could have typed this myself apart from losing my mother.
Im planning on going for a long walk tomorrow so 15 mins through my estate then come to a back foot path of the county side, i just have to get past the estate first.
plan.

Full battery earphones claire weekes playing.
Bottle of water, lunch box backpack.
And focus.

Sounds stupid lol.

I think that’s a huge step (ha) that you have taken…. Also best form of exercise. So sorry for your loss xxx

LoyalGoldMentor · 24/08/2026 21:00

Well done you! One day/walk at a time. You're doing great. I hope you had good weather for it too x

So sorry for your loss.
You did amazing, it took a lot of courage, as someone with social anxiety, even walking into a pub or whatever someone else may do without a thought is a big deal to me at times.
Your Mum would be so proud!
Sending you a big hug in congrats, and it’s a cliché, but….U got this!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 24/08/2026 22:00

Very well done, you should feel proud.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

TheJoyousHiker · 24/08/2026 22:00

Well done!

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 24/08/2026 22:04

Well done OP, I really mean that. I've been in the same position many moons ago and it's hard to get out of. Keep going, only YOU can make this better.

latetothefisting · 24/08/2026 22:04

well done OP! You could have done it just once and still been proud of your achievement so to keep going six times is amazing!

Maybe try at a different time tomorrow or when you're next able to go out? I went for an early walk the other day because I had to be out of my house - I'm never usually an early riser but was surprised at how nice and crisp it felt!

onemorerose · 24/08/2026 22:11

I love this post op. And another a few posts up who’s also going for a walk. It’s the small things you do in life that make a big difference. It may not feel small to you now but keep at it and it will feel like a piece of cake.

BePoisedPlumUser · 24/08/2026 22:29

Well done!

MyTakeIsntYourTake · 24/08/2026 22:34

Amazing-try to do it everyday, even if it's raining but don't give yourself a hard time if you miss a day. I think you'll do it though!!
Its a really great start. 💐

bocketyaulbag · 24/08/2026 22:48

Well done, I hope it's the first of many such.

Anyahyacinth · 24/08/2026 22:50

Aww how fantastic 💐 good on you OP

whythehellnow · 24/08/2026 22:59

You are amazing and your strength is recovering! I don’t know if you play video games but my kids are obsessed with Zelda Breath of the Wild and I see your hearts and stamina increasing Grin

I suffered agoraphobia for maybe a decade after bereavement, it’s awful and very misunderstood in my experience. I couldn’t travel on escalators, couldn’t stand on train platforms or go to the cinema or concerts, the silence and the deafening sound of the emptiness around me.

I wouldn’t have believed that I could recover but I have. And you will. Time heals, be kind to yourself and celebrate every small step forward Flowers

spiderlight · 24/08/2026 23:01

That's an incredible achievement - well done! I genuinely mean that because I would really struggle to do it so I know how brave you've been. I'm so sorry for your loss.

IKillHousePlants · 24/08/2026 23:17

You should be very proud of yourself.

Sacredbirman · 24/08/2026 23:19

I can only say that is wonderful.

canklesmctacotits · 24/08/2026 23:23

Well done!! It always makes me well up seeing or watching or hearing about people who confront their fears head on - and all the more so when they end up beating them. It’s so courageous. I’m proud of you too, OP, and I haven’t a clue who you are. Out for coffee next!!

Twilight7777 · 24/08/2026 23:23

Well done! I can imagine your mum beaming with pride watching over you ❤️❤️❤️

fumingrightnow1 · 24/08/2026 23:40

You should be so proud of yourself thats amazing I suffered with agoraphobia and did some exposure therapy and its really not easy. I hope you've treated yourself to something for doing it.

OneNewEagle · 25/08/2026 00:05

Very well done OP!

From a fellow CPTSD agoraphobia anxiety illness sufferer.

it starts to get easier with time.
