AIBU to feel proud after managing a solo walk?

I've been struggling with anxiety and agoraphobia since my mum died in Jan. I haven't left my flat for more than a few minutes since her funeral in Feb.

I've just walked around my block six times by myself and didn't panic. Feeling very proud of myself at the moment! I know it's on a tiny thing but it genuinely feels like a huge accomplishment! 🥳🥳😁😁

This is such a lovely thing to read, brought a tear to my eye ! You’ve had such a hard time , well done for getting out !
One step at a time, you can do this xx

This will give you great confidence. Now you know that even if you miss a couple of days due to illness you can still get back into it when you’re well. You are a person who goes out for walks and fresh air - that is now part of who you are.

Wow OP. What amazing progress, you should be delighted with yourself 🥳

TheHatOfHappiness · 28/08/2026 23:25

This is fantastic and you did so well 💚

Alittlebitofthebauble · 28/08/2026 23:24

Well done my love. I'm also navigating grief and it's so difficult to motivate yourself isn't it? I'm so bloody tired all the time. Walking and being in nature is such a mood lifter though. You should be very proud of yourself for getting out. Onwards and upwards! 😊

DDivaStar · 28/08/2026 23:19

Honestly well done, self motivation is so hard. Keep exploring, gently.

I hope you find so much joy in your walks.

QuestionableMouse · 28/08/2026 23:14

I'm thinking I might be brave tomorrow and try a walk to the shop 😅😅😅

Ahhhh I did it again and went even further this time! 🤯🥳🥳🥳

Bit hard to see but I walked around the block of flats a couple of times and then went gradually further! It was just over 1km tonight 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Brilliant! 🎉

I’ve been where you are, couldnt go out for 2 years, take little steps and keep, going. It does get better, I know I had some days when I felt bad still but did manage to keep going, now I can go out no problem. Good luck xx

Shedsqueek · 26/08/2026 22:20

You are amazing and your strength is recovering! I don’t know if you play video games but my kids are obsessed with Zelda Breath of the Wild and I see your hearts and stamina increasing Grin

I suffered agoraphobia for maybe a decade after bereavement, it’s awful and very misunderstood in my experience. I couldn’t travel on escalators, couldn’t stand on train platforms or go to the cinema or concerts, the silence and the deafening sound of the emptiness around me.

I wouldn’t have believed that I could recover but I have. And you will. Time heals, be kind to yourself and celebrate every small step forward Flowers

Not wanting to derail the thread but can I ask how you overcame it? I'd love to be able to give some hope to a loved one and both your post & op's are inspiring
