WTF is this new trend

I don't see it like this at all. More a wtf at designers.

I've seen this a number of times over the last year and I'm up north. It's as if they've bought a mini skirt about three sizes too small that should sit on the hips and it's round the waist instead. It looks bloody awful in my opinion, but I'm middle-aged, what do I know?😆

There's also a trend for full arse cheeks on show below very short skirts. Saw this 6 times in central London yesterday. It must be an extension of the back thong swimsuit come back. Fashion!

What do you all wear then jeans and fleeces? A nice blouse and pencil skirt. A lot of you sound like the kind of dullards I’d give a massive swerve to. I quite like the contrast of lingerie with streetwear but I don’t especially like some shitty fast fashion manufacturer throwing together a version which is stitched together. You don’t need to buy that look because the idea is you play around in your wardrobe and create these looks with what you have. Anything fake is a bit sad… those jumpers manufactured to look like you were wearing a shirt underneath for example.

Growing up I wore lots of “ out there “ clothes which is exactly what teenagers should be doing. Better that than living in sweatshirts / joggers as far as I’m concerned.

I used to wear M&S silk and lace camisoles as a top in the early 90’s, to go out clubbing, but my boobs were where they were meant to be then!

Maybe we should all wear these in protest & start our own trend. 😂

Reminds me of those novelty aprons you see in cheap souvenir shops.

I haven't seen anything like this, would just assume it was a feminist statement of some kind if I saw someone wearing it.

I'm interested enough in fashion to have worked in it 🤗 Funnily enough, like most fashion personnel, my work clothes were mainly old, black & baggy. Shoes and accessories did matter, though. And hair - I had some astonishing hair in the 1980s! I mean, I did have a Farrah and a Diana, but then there was the spiky apricot pom-pom 🤔

Its something that does seem to be cyclic. I remember in the 80s skirts having white cotton scalloped edging. Not as racy as the later look but was still meant to look like a petticoat edge.

I thought this thread would be about the silky baby dolls that are now being worn with jeans, trimmed with lace and going down to the knees.

I find that a really bizarre look too.

In the 1970s, I wore:
A completely transparent mini smock dress;
Very short hotpants with very high platform heels;
Floaty, transparent, cheesecloth tops;
Floaty, semi-transparent maxi skirts;
Very short mini-skirts;
Extremely wide trousers;
No bra, ever.

In the 1980s:
Power suits with big shoulder pads, stilettoes;
Huge puff sleeves, often with shoulder pads;
Silk shirts as dresses, half undone;
Bright-coloured mini ra-ra skirts;
Anything made of black lace;
Chiffon shirts with black lace bra showing through;
Insane amounts of eye makeup.

In the 1990s:
Low-slung cargo pants with high-slung thongs;
Crop tops and bikini tops;
Silky slip dresses;
Extremely short denim cut-offs;
Extremely wide trousers again;
Doc Martens.

Come the 2000s, fashion's mostly recycling the looks I've worn before and the menopause is putting paid to my crop-top body. I hated skinny trousers and spent about ten years in leggings with long tops, gradually veering towards sack-shaped tube dresses in any length.

2020s:
Extremely wide trousers and clumpy shoes are back! Hurrah! I'm not letting go of these until I simply can't get any more. Wearing them with big, loose tops (fuck that 'flattering your figure shite) that often have big, puff sleeves;
Loose, transparent tops with visible bra underneath (yes, at my age);
Gigantic, long skirts.

Fashion's fun! I enjoy seeing The Young People doing new things with old ideas - and old things with new ones. I'll never comment on them the way some miserable people commented on my outfits of yore.

I don't know anyone who wears this and I'm not even sure I saw this trend offline but I can imagine younger girls thinking its fun or edgy so they'd buy it in a second. To each their own though, we all had some questionable fashion choices

Gosh, this thread is really sad. I’d love to see what you all wear since you’re so full of judgement for others! I hate seeing women tear other women down, especially over something so superficial as fashion choices. Wear what you like and try not be so miserable!!

Fairly controversial, M&S were left with loads of stock because no one wanted it. It would have gone to landfill.

I think clothes designers are actually taking the piss out of women and it's not funny. Clothing now is so stupid and ugly. Horrible materials as well. I suppose the expensive, classic stuff will be okay, but mainstream clothing is a joke.
