WTF is this new trend

AIBU to think the trend for Lingerie lace and silk as outer wear is really odd?
Everywhere I look there’s cheap lace appliquéd onto skirts and t shirts.

Then today I saw bra’s, as t-shirt motif’s.

AIBU to think this trend is awful.

Highly fashionable teenage me in 95/96 IIRC wore a super sparkly sequined bra and totally see through sheer blouse over the top. Some girls wore that style to school but that was a tad too far for me. (I also had the matching thong, trust me that didn't end well when the sequins fell off 🙈).

It's just the latest fad and no worse that 100's of its predecessors!

It would certainly be an innovation, @GreensAreGoodForYou 😂 Penises tend to stand up just as unpredictably as nipples, but rather more prominently. Replacing trouser tents with crotch poles would make red carpet events more interesting to watch, but might cause a few problems ...

Yuk. Totally tacky but i think it was 'edgy' in the 90s. I will admit i do have a knee length silk bias cut cami dress that has a lingerie type lace trim... bloody expensive ..but my partner hates even that 🤣

Now I’m imagining a world where male celebs on the red carpet have revealing ‘side testicle’ clothing, or ‘opaque sprayed-on fabric’ penis trousers. Low-slung bottoms that show their cracks or the top of their pubes 😂

I wonder if it would be viewed as sexy if it was a celeb instead of a plumber with badly fitting jeans or a skinny teen who wears their jeans around their thighs?!

I’ve seen some penis-hugging trousers on celebs before but that’s about it.

I feel I'm so old, I'm too old to comment.
I was of the mini-mini-skirt generation (I always wore outer-layer knickers to colour-match my outfits).
But I find it gruesome to see (mainly) young women in the street / on the Tube flaunting their availables. I just wish they wouldn't.

Similarly, I cringe away from bare man-flesh on the high street or in the Underground. Ooo, no, please don't.
Save it for the swimming-pool. Please.

Yes, mine from the 70s was an actual bra at the top and ankle length - in black. I would have worn it about 1973. It was a bit like this

The nearest I can get to what my friend wore is this one - but in purple!

Goodness knows what we looked like, but we were young and pretty and frankly we didn't care!

Yes! So true. My friend's nightclub attire was black push up bra with completely sheer top, big black belt, 501 jeans & DM's.

Agree with you @Askandyforcompo about the current trend for wedding dresses - the ones that look like lingerie / a basque are awful.

Oh I am so sick of seeing wedding dresses like that, it’s just icky.

You're not the age group it's aimed at . I remember wearing 'gypsy' skirts in the 80s with lace petticoat showing underneath. I don't really care what people wear as long as they're nice people. you must look back on clothes that you wore when you were younger and think what on earth was I thinking

More like this! Sold as nighties or petticoats, worn as club dresses. Mine was a kind of oyster white colour. I tried to find a pic of people wearing the actual M and S slips in the 90s because everyone was wearing them but can't find anything.

Not debating that. Didn't mean teenagers didn't see them dressed like that and copy them.

00s teens didn't spend their life on phones or reading the news.

It was probably just bras then, and now we are more practical and active wear and stitch the image onto a tee instead!
I like the longish line silk camis with an asymmetrical hem with lace on the hem, but couldn’t find one in maroon with cream/white lace.
