AIBU to change schools over my husband helping a neighbour?

Dh had always done school drop off and pick up due to my work hours and over the last 18 months I’d got increasingly irritated by him walking with or giving a lift to a neighbour whose child goes to the same school.

So I decided we would change dc to a different school a little further away and they are due to start there in a couple of weeks.

I didn’t want to spend time on discussions and boundaries and wanted to just eliminate the stress on our relationship. I told him I wasn’t comfortable that I’d asked him to stop and as he wasn’t I was changing schools to which he said ‘fine that’s your choice’. Dc are ok about it as we know people who go to the new school as well.

Neighbour has just spoken to us as we were leaving at the same time and she said to dh ‘back to the usual routine soon then!’ And I said ‘actually no, dc are going to be at a different school so all change for us !’ To which she turned to dh and said ‘why haven’t you told me this already?’ Which I found odd.

Why are people calling @Schoolchanging a bad mother?!

She has moved her kids, who are happy to move, to a better school where they already have friends, with better wraparound care and close to her work so.........if husband is cheating then her life as a single mother will be easier. If he isnt then life is still easier for everyone and the predator neighbour (if she proves to be) has been removed from the equation.

The wording of the OP does sound a little unhinged but the updates make a big difference.

He has friends and colleagues who are younger / more attractive. Difference being they seem like decent people, the female friends come round, chat to me as well. No issues. He goes running with a female colleague, she is lovely and I don’t get any bad feelings whatsoever but with our neighbour I just can’t cope she gives me a really unpleasant concern. She looks at me horribly, she looks at dh like he’s amazing and it’s weird. She barely can say one word to me ever. She had put her own ‘care pack’ in the car for when she gets a lift (tissues , lip balm, gum why do that ?)

Maybe it’s partly because im perimenopausal but I don’t feel this way about any other female dh talks to?

We got no choice with schools when moved here and the new one is better anyway so it’s a positive change

Always trust your gut instincts. If she's blanking you while at the same time being friendly to your husband, something is definitely off.

Stompythedinosaur · 24/08/2026 21:59

Horrendous! You obviously should have prioritised your dc and their stability. I feel really sorry for them!

I did ! He carried on with the walking together and lifts it’s in my OP

Then you have a husband problem.

The care pack is odd. You should have mentioned that in the OP.

ETA especially odd if it had condoms in it, but thankfully you didn't mention that.

VickyEadie · 23/08/2026 12:21

And yet the neighbour still lives nearby - if he wanted to cheat, he very much still could...

Actually it's all easier now, as it isn't the mum of a classmate.

OP this is unbelievably weird.

OneNewEagle · 24/08/2026 21:33

Yanbu

get your life easier for you and the kids and the school run
if he does something still with this person you will have that side of things organised, we all know people that would try it on with other peoples partners. You told your DH it was making you uncomfortable he should have stopped seeing her.

Most parents worry about their kids starting primary school, then secondary school, plus any necessary school changes due to relocation etc.

OP uses changing school as a way to get 1 over her neighbour. Absolute insanity, poor parenting and I feel incredibly sorry for their poor kids having to go through another, completely unnecessary school change. I would be in bits about this - OP just sees it as a solution to a relationship issue!

Hope you don't get divorced - you're using your children as pawns now, I can only imagine how awful you would be if separation was involved, not giving them a second's thought, only how it benefits you.

I hope this is a made up story. Absolutely bonkers if not. Poor children. Poor husband.

Poor husband agreed with it it seems which is just as odd

momtoboys · 24/08/2026 21:12

I wish you would reread your posts. You sound unwell. What will you do when he speaks to another school mom you don't like? You do know that if he truly does want to continue this friendship with the mom, he still will find a way, right?

momtoboys · 24/08/2026 21:09

Schoolchanging · 23/08/2026 13:44

He has other female friends and colleagues. It’s just one person I have an issue with. She’s overbearing and intense and he seems to just want to spend time with her and I don’t like it.
Plus I want to start doing the school run and new school is near my work as I’ve felt like I’m missing out not doing it.

I just read the posts - you don't have a school problem. You have a husband problem. This was the easiest vote I have ever cast in AIBU.

momtoboys · 24/08/2026 21:07

I'm very confused. Was he doing the drop off and pick up in his nip? Were they snogging as the kids walked to the car?

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/08/2026 21:06

What stood out for me is her demanding to know why he hadnt told her, like she was owed this. Sounds more than "neighbours chatting on the school run" to me even if only to her.

ETA the "care pack" is her pissing on your territory. That would be going in the bin, in a very obvious way where and when she is watching.

TooFuckingHot · 24/08/2026 21:04

What a terrible reason to muck about with your child’s schooling which is essentially to avoid having an adult conversation with your DP.

GoldenSandy · 24/08/2026 21:03

I'm convinced this can't be real.

Nobody is this psycho surely.

If you think he's shagging the neighbour he certainly won't be doing it on the school run.

There's nothing odd about her comment. Any reasonable person would tell their neighbour the kids are changing school, especially if you normally car share.

I can only conclude that this is rage bait.

catspyjamas1 · 24/08/2026 20:56

feathermucker · 23/08/2026 11:47

Unless he has previous form for cheating/lying, this seems an extreme reaction.

what bothered you about the neighbour?

First post nails it.

Aiming4Optimistic · 24/08/2026 20:54

If posters bothered to rtft, they'd know that the kids were fine with the move because they already know people at the new school, that OP is not making her own life harder because if it all goes tits up with the h, this new school allows OP to do the school run and has wraparound care, she did try to speak to the h, who was a complete fucking wet lettuce and has prioritised the neighbour, thus proving it's sensible for OP to organise her life so that she can get her kids to school and it wasn't just jealousy over a perfectly normal school run interaction - crazy bitch neighbour ignores OP and fawns over the h and has left her 'care package' in their car!
Personally I'd be inclined to shove her care package up husbands arse, so I think OP has been quite restrained in just moving schools.

The kids will be fine - moving to a school where they already know people is not akin to being sent down the mines. The way some posters put the boot in, largely without bothering to read OP's posts is shocking!

MsPrufrockk · 24/08/2026 20:53

Definitely bonkers, but reading OP's updates she needs to deal with her dick of a DH.

PinkJ · 24/08/2026 20:47

You sound nuts 🥜, nowt like putting yourself first!

LizandDerekGoals · 24/08/2026 20:44

I trust him
No you don’t.
And this is where you need to start addressing issues.
You told him you were uncomfortable and asked him to stop and he carried on. He disregarded your feelings.

NoisyMoose · 24/08/2026 20:38

You sound extremely insecure in your marriage, that’s not your neighbours issue, it’s yours. Your poor child having to uproot schools because of you insecurity’s, madness.

Anna1mac · 24/08/2026 20:34

This has to be a made up story by some attention seeking, bored woman.. surely.

Waspy43 · 24/08/2026 20:21

I think you really need to get some help as this is not normal behaviour ! And as you think this is Normal and justified is even more worrying .

Lollipop81 · 24/08/2026 20:21

wtaf have I just read. You’ve moved your kids school for the second time in 2.5 years, for this. Moving schools is a big thing for a child. Honestly, you sound insane.
