AIBU to ask the local running club to move its Sunday stop?

About the local running club. I live in a smallish village with others close by. Someone who doesn’t live locally has started a running club in the area , due to I would guess demand and you can also do a good circuit on very quiet roads and through flat fields. This as a concept is absolutely great and I have no overall issue. However they have one of their ‘exercises stops’ outside my house at 8am on a Sunday. This includes a a lot of shouting and then loud chatter from 10-15 people for 5 mins. It wakes me up , this is the only day I don’t have work. Now I don’t own the road and I understand that. But I think it’s inconsiderate. There is a large secluded car park area they could use literally 50m down the road or a field 50m the other way. Also for context I have neighbours but I don’t think it would be so loud for them. So I am really considering asking them to move to one of the other areas not near houses. It’s not the crack of dawn but it’s really annoying and seems no reason why it’s right there. I have the organisers fb from her promoting the activity.

It’s probably best mentioned face to face. I’d go out in my pjs and ask them in a friendly even joking way if they wouldn’t mind moving their meeting place as you could do with a lie in. I’d poke a bit of fun at myself too to try and win them round. If they are decent sorts they will - if they aren’t you risk them turning up earlier and making even more racket!
Good luck.

I'm surprised this running group lack the common sense and decency to realise that they might be causing a disturbance.

Cycling groups I wouldn't be so surprised at...

(I belong to both running and cycling groups)

We were asked to move our parkrun start as people could hear (at 9 on a Sat) we would move if there was an option, most runners are nice enough people and someone who sets up a free group is probably super nice, just haven't heard your perspective. If we could move and fit the course requirements we could, but we can't - sounds like your lot could, I suspect they will.

What's "nice enough" about behaving as if they are the centre of the universe outside someone's house?

MamaorBruh · 23/08/2026 13:30

I'd definitely ask.
I have neighbours who have young children so are up from 6am - they bang around the house, kids running about etc. Always wakes me and my kids up but I don't say anything as I had young kids once (mine are now 11 and 15)
What does bug me, however is when they stand on their drive directly outside my window/my sons window and start shouting hellos and using hoses/car hoovers at 7.40am.
It's so unnecessary.
I come home from work at 11pm sometimes so am awake but wouldn't dream of mowing my lawn, or chatting on my phone outside their house!
Grrr. Sorry, I've added my mini rant and no, YANU!

Cheeky fuckers

Agree with the majority- 8am is too early for a group to regularly congregate outside of someone’s house and make noise although doubt you have any particular legal remedy.

I would also proceed on the basis that they are reasonable people who haven’t realised they are disturbing you so I would send a friendly email along the lines of “Hi, I live at number 3 (the house on the corner) and your group congregates outside at 8am every Sunday which is disturbing my much needed Sunday morning sleep. I’d be really grateful if you could move the regular stop to x or x. Thanks so much and good luck with the running “

Vast majority of running clubs (and people in general) would be straight back with so sorry to have disturbed you, of course we’ll move. If they don’t you might have to confront them in your pjs and make your point slightly more forcefully.

Happysnappydays · 23/08/2026 13:02

I hope they'll change the location but they've not shown much consideration so far by picking the current spot

I disagree
8am is early on a Sunday.
I wouldn't like this outside my window.
They probably don't even realize how loud they are - you know what it's like when you're in a group and runners are generally excitable people.

I think you are within your rights next Sunday to pop outside and point out the problem with the group leader (discreetly).

Suggest the 2 stopping points that you have mentioned.

It would then be really arsey behaviour if they don't move on.

Good luck
X

They are rude and inconsiderate. I'd be furious too.

For fucks sake, there's always dicks like you who pipe up with this shit on threads about getting woken up in the morning. It may not be early to you, but it is for some people who may have went to bed later than you.

@Welshmum2010 whenever my local parkrun gets re-routed I sometimes get woken up at 9am on a Saturday & Sunday. I message the organiser anytime they make unreasonable noise. I'm not talking about normal parkrun noise, I mean when you get a volunteer standing outside my bedroom window who decides to "WHOOP" really loudly at every single fucking runner. The organiser is always very apologetic and then it doesn't happen again for a long time.

For those people who say 9am isn't early - it is when you've worked a late shift and only been able to go to bed at 3am.

Or when you’ve been out on the piss all night and just got into bed.

ThisCraftyAquaHedgehog · 23/08/2026 12:49

Absolutely ask them to move - they won't know there is a problem if you don't tell them. Do it politely and positively and suggest the alternatives.

8am IS the crack of dawn on a Sunday!

Contact them. They quite possibly haven’t thought about it.

Of course it's early on a Sunday.

I’m In a running club and we would be more than happy to move if needed. Just drop them an email.

BeethovenNinth · 23/08/2026 12:30

I would politely ask them and they will probably be happy to move! Most runners are decent and will be upset they have caused you this issue

Pistachiocake · 23/08/2026 12:29

LittleWhitePaws · 23/08/2026 09:12

I'd be friendly and polite and ask them. In my experience running clubs are considerate and don't want to disturb people, I'd be surprised if they don't move if there are other nearby more suitable options as you say.

Isn't is the case you're not allowed to have noisy things (tradesmen etc) going on earlier than 9? Not sure if it's a law, but definitely in the block I used to live, people weren't supposed to mow/have kids playing football before 9. And this is earlier, and there's really no need for them to be chatting there-the run clubs near us have meeting places away from houses for this exact reason.

8am isnt early

It is on a Sunday.

OP it's fine to ask them to move (and at the very least they should quieten down). We routinely meet outside houses in the winter months (in the evenings) and the coaches also routinely tell us to pipe down if we are being too noisy.

TokyoSushi · 23/08/2026 12:10

I think if you ask nicely and suggest the alternatives it’ll be fine.

Sorry no, 8am on a Sunday IS early. It may be the one day that week that people have a chance to have a lie in

just because YOU don’t think 8am on Sunday is early, doesn’t mean others do

Mumtotornadoes · 23/08/2026 12:09

I can't believe someone would think it ok to organise an activity outside someone's house at any time of day. Especially one involving shouting instructions.

They don't live in the area but have chosen the area because it's rural and nice and quiet and then are being bloody noisy outside people houses who chose to live in the nice quiet rural area.

CurbsideProphet · 23/08/2026 12:00

I really hope they apologise and change their rest location immediately. It seems really disrespectful to start up a running club and stand outside someone's house on a Sunday morning chatting noisily.

PullTheBricksDown · 23/08/2026 11:55

BeGreySnail · 23/08/2026 11:43

How does that make any sense? How is she being unreasonable when you've just stated that 8am is early when it's her only day to catch up on sleep.

This post is replying to the first reply that said 8am wasn't early
