5 children with at least 3 different fathers. Maybe the 17, 14 and 11 year old share a father or the 11 and 5 maybe do. Or none of them do.

Oops! Good catch! Missed the 11 year old. Yes, 5 children.

The 17-year-old and his female friend are looking after the 7-month-old baby and his siblings, ages 5 and 14. Can the friend call her mother and ask her to help out? Admittedly, it is not her mother's job, but she might help (or at least ensure they are managing okay) if she thinks her daughter feels stressed looking after the baby.

Edited

If my 17 yo daughter called me for this, I'd be phoning social services. Hungover 17 year old left overnight with a 14 yo, 4 yo that wouldn't go to bed and a 7 month old baby that isn't sleeping.

OP said she has no family (not sure if that includes ex's though) and has 4 children (ages 5, 14, 17 years and the 7 month old baby).

Edited

5 children. 11 year old too.

@Theboymolefoxandhorse OP has left her autistic child before, how else has she had 2 more children if she can't leave him? Unless she also left him with her 16 yo when having the most recent child.

If he can't be left, then @dinosaursroars probably shouldn't have had another baby with yet another man. Which is probably more upsetting for an autistic child.

I didn’t say say she couldn’t leave her child, I said it may be very unsettling for him. Obviously we don’t know the situation surrounding what happened at the other 2 births - but I assume that there was planned childcare as most people have to do when they’re going to have a baby and have other children at home.

That is an entirely different situation to leaving an 11 year old who has had a seizure, in an emergency department overnight- with the ED nurse expected to look after them.

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 23/08/2026 01:19

There's a 14 yo too @Woodfiresareamazing2

5 Children @Woodfiresareamazing2, 17 year old is still a child. Doubt he will still be living at home much longer when he's expected to parent her other children.

Go home to your baby @dinosaursroars

I thought only one of the 17 year old teens is OP's, the other is his friend.

I think OP's DC are 17, 11, 4, and 7 months.
But I may have mis-counted as some of OP's updates have been a bit confusing.

I'm also unsure how many fathers there are - I think it might be 3? But I know none of them live with OP, and I think only 1 has any slight involvement with their DC.

Two drunk/hungover 17 year olds looking after a 4 year old and a 7 month old baby - what could possibly go wrong? 😳

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/08/2026 01:16

Can the teen get the baby to you in a taxi?

StolenTeapots · 23/08/2026 01:14

Does the teen understand about safe sleep? Concerned for the baby if they are in a sleep regression and so up lots

Sorry but have you entered an emergency department recently? I don’t think the ED nurse will be able to babysit for their shift. It’s already carnage is most EDs as it is with often basic triage / investigations and management delayed. Completely agree if other children are at risk this needs to be escalated and most likely emergency social services input would be required. OP has also stated her child has autism, so i suspect being in a hospital in general may be quite unsettling, let alone their mum ditching them with the ED nurse :/

I read this as a comment FROM an emergency department nurse, saying that you CAN leave a minor child alone in hospital.
Not that an ED would 'babysit' the OP's child so that OP could go home.

All these kids and not a responsible father to any of them…..
you sound like you would be better off on your own!

She IS, effectively, on her own.

With 4 children.

That's the problem.

user1492757084 · 23/08/2026 01:04

Op, I would leave DS in hospital with excellent care and return home.
You need to have proper sleep yourself.
Reassess tomorrow after breakfast, after you, baby, 5 yo and other kids have caught up on sleep.
When you come in to visit DS tomorrow consider bringing the baby with you.

dreamingofgoodhair · 23/08/2026 00:57

Yes you can - ED nurse.

He’s pretty much showing that he’s not going to to step up/doesn’t care. Do what you will with that.

JumpBoyJump · 22/08/2026 22:52

You can’t leave a child in hospital, legally there has to be a parent or guardian with them 24/7

Yes you can - ED nurse.

dinosaursroars · 22/08/2026 22:25

he is my baby's dad

my eldest was 17 yesterday and his friend is 17 i think she’s 18 soon. hes not used to looking after the baby because i dont ask that of him especially not overnight either
the most i ask is he watches baby if im bathing my other children and baby is still awake on the living room for example

Why doesn’t he live with you?
and why has he gone to work with all this going on!!!!

Theboymolefoxandhorse · 23/08/2026 00:52

@dinosaursroars i hope your son is ok and sorry you’re having such a difficult time.
Please speak to the medical/ nursing team ans explain the situation at home. You have a 7 month old who is currently being looked after by another child - and their friend. You’ve had no choice in the emergency situation of the seizure but you should really escalate this now.
I’m not sure what support they can offer you but I know some hospitals have big family rooms where they can accommodate other children. If nothing else they can try to make sure your son is prioritised to be seen and a decision re his care made quickly so you can make arrangements and perhaps offer a welfare check for the other children if you remain in hospital all night.

Yojur partner sounds utterly useless, immature and not a partner at all. He’s more interested in talking about moving in than the welfare of his 7 month old son and thinks if you’re old enough to look after yourself when you’re drunk you’re old enough to look after a baby! Is he doesn’t seem to care for your 5 year old etc. this isn’t someone you can depend or even someone who sounds like is adding much to your life right now if he has never spent time with his own baby alone in 7 months. Obviously tonight focus on your unwell child but longer term I would be considering this relationship.

my baby isn’t a great sleeper tbh especially as i think hes teething which is another reason im concerned

bf seems to think eldest will be fine as he was drinking last night so his attitude is ig his old enough to drink kind of thing but i dont agree because looking after himself when drunk is a lot different to looking after a young baby and a 5 year old
i had him when i was 18 and even then i sometimes panicked when hed cry and it seemed to be for no reason

This babies dad prefers a hungover 17 yr old also in charge of a 14 and 5 yr old, be in charge of his teething baby than making the effort himself?

Why did you have a baby with Thai man?
