AIBU to think tatty lampost flags are imposing on communities?

To think.that people continuing to put up tatty flags on lamposts are imposing on communities?
There are people putting them up again near roads. They hang by a thread eventually causing a clear hazard. It looks disrespectful and costs money to make safe. And the intention looks less and less like they give a fig for anyone especially in diverse places.
Everywhere has a civic hub where flags are flown properly at the proper time.

I live in a ‘nice’ area and the flags are still attached and flying gloriously.

Ours are either hanging in rags or have been taken down.

I don't think it's the communities themselves doing it though. These flag raising people are often not local. No one seems to puts flags up lamposts in their own street. They can just use their windows if they want to. It's not like the Jubilee or Coronation in that respect.

Noone puts up flag in our little community, but it does not matter - the mood in this little community is 100% behind Restore - and strangely enough (but only strangely to globalists and self-harming empathisers) the unanimity exists among what is usually seen as class antagonists - one solicitor, one GP, a council house (semi-detached) with benefit recipients for genuine invalidity (autistic children and single mum), a brickie married to a nurse, an oil platform engineer, working shifts abroad, teachers, local Tesco shop assistants, etc. etc. etc. Yes, an a Chinese chef, ethnically Chinese and a gay couple!!!!

We've got a few round here that have been up for ages and they look fine, if a bit frayed.

The rather posh village 5 mins down the road is full of them! Every single lamp post has one, then they've strung up flag bunting along all the shop fronts. Drove through it a few days ago and they all look like theyve been renewed. Its not what id have expected from an achingly affluent area that has at least 3 artisan bread shops, yearly fetes, makers markets and a village society group 😂

People can complain about immigration without being racist, but I assume all neighbourhoods that go to the effort of putting up flags are stuffed to the gills with rabid racists.

Putting up flags, I think, is illegal. Therefore I guess the people doing it are doing something illegal. It's funny because that doesn't seem to bother those who purport to defend ' our laws'
They mean I think the ones they want to keep.

They look awful on lamp posts and are a signifier of a run down area. They look good on public buildings.

When I’m driving I’m looking at the road not scruffy flags flapping on the lamp posts but that may just be me.

I'm more concerned about the amount of flytipping and littering going on and the fact the our local Council doesn't have street cleaners any more.

Talk to an estate agent, their view is it lowers house prices and many folk won’t even view homes with flags in the road. Unless every home in a road supported the movement then how dare the flag raisers presume to speak for them. This has nothing to do with patriotism and everything to do with intimidation.

Nothing says national pride, and I love my country like sticking a st George Cross flag up on a few lampposts then watching it gradually turn grey and frayed and gradually disintegrate into a few red white and grey rags. 🫡

There'll always be an England. God Save the King. Come to think of it I hope the King appreciates all this effort.

Just came back from Dublin and they were all over the place there aswell.
Where we are living it is not just the rundown neighbourhoods that have the union Jacks. I am an immigrant and here is not a significant immigrant community (90% white british) and while I do understand that I am one of the 'problems' it just looks so tacky and I feel like it is disrespectful to the flag. I don't mind a flag on a flag pole or a punting during football, great to be patriotic. Flags with zip ties halfway up the lamppost feels like it is just the opposite of what is the intention.
