AIBU to think tatty lampost flags are imposing on communities?

Its time for them to come down IMO. Whatever point that was meant to have been made has been made. They are starting to look a bit lame and a bit cringe. I mean how long do these people want to keep doing this ?

The area between south Bristol and the airport has a flag half way up virtually every lampost- I'm embarrassed to think what foreign visitors must think. I hadn't thought about emailing the council until now, I will definitely do that.

I don't think the local green councillors in my area responsible for the flags are known for drinking excessively. they're also great at organising litter picks, so don't think that applies in this case!

I’ve noticed how filthy and tatty a lot of them look. Problem is if you try and remove then you get mobbed by drunk obese 50 year old bald men with no teef innit?!

All the ones I’ve seen by the coast look well secured and clean.

Think they look quite nice flapping in the wind ocean in the background.

They are inevitably the signifier of a run down & depressed neighbourhood. There must be better uses of energy, such as litter picking, instead of hanging flags that enhance to the sense of general neglect.

Those men haven't improved a single community or environment by putting up those flags. I suspect they spend the surplus Go Fund Me / Collection Pot money on beer and takeaways.....

I agree. Round here it's the pro Palestinian flags hanging in tatters from the lamp posts which cause an unsightly mess. Coupled with the Gaza graffiti murals on hoardings, a pleasant sight it is not. What can be done? Our Jewish communities have written to the local council to explain how they are intimidating and aggressive, but were informed nothing could be done as many of the murals are on private land, although road facing!

The ones near me have gone all thread-bear and look tatty. Not only that half the Union Flags have been hung upside down. They made a big song and dance as they were putting them up, even taking donations from people in the process only to leave them to rot. I expect more from so-called patriots who apparently love our country and flag. It was all a show.

It doesn’t help that they always look as if they are at half mast, because the hangers’ ladders are not long enough.

I totally agree they look "common" and would definitely put me off buying a house in that area

She’s probably driven down my road and seen ours. They do make the area look like it’s been abandoned and no one cares. She is correct with her comment.

I visited my home town last month, and on the drive from the airport I was shocked to see the faded, ripped flags on every lamppost, it looked awful and really brought the area down. What were people thinking!

Our tatty little dishrags (they’re ‘ex flags’, not ‘flags’) are also up high and well secured. If they weren’t someone would have taken them down.

Where I live, they look a right mess. It is a shame that the people who went through such an effort to put them up, seem to not care that they are so tatty looking. You know pride, an all that!

Our council have taken them down and stated they will continue to do so. Only to be flown from allocated flag poles which there are a lot of.

The ones round here look awful .. maybe the “patriots” who made such a big deal of putting them up, would like to maintain them.

Ours look like something even Steptoe would be embarrassed by.

Where are the staunch defenders of the England flags? Aren’t they embarrassed by the shoddy condition of their beloved flag that represents their beloved country? It seems not.

Write to the council about your worries concerning health and safety.

However, I have never heard of an accident being caused by a tatty flag before. Many accidents are caused by potholes though - now that really is a priority and cause for concern!

Ours look awful, just frayed,faded limp rags that are coming away. This is why only councils she be hanging flags as opposed to far right extremists.

We have one near us which I think some kids put up. I am tempted to cut it down as I when I see aot of flags I assume the area is a bit downmarket
